Hi silsurf! Hey, that was our family, second in line starting at about noon. That was a great day, even the waiting around. We would love it if you could send or post the picture of Jamie strumming. We were sitting back by the sound board, so we didn't get much of a photo.
Good for you! From my vantage point 10 feet away, that was a truly great moment in Wilco (and my personal concert-going) history! If Jamie doesn't grow up to be a musician, I'll be surprised. I was happy to see Wilco, all fame and accolades aside, hasn't lost their soul or connection with the audience. After seeing them many times, thought this was one of their better shows...but then again, has anyone ever seen a bad Wilco show?! Ditto on the comment about the Dead shows of the 80s and the spirit of the crowd...Much more sober crowd, however, so perhaps it's even more significant? Finally...you know you're at a Wilco show when the folks leaning up against the stage barrier are playing Scrabble while they wait! Oh yeah and Okkervil River was great too! Hope the gentleman "Don Henley fan" who fell down and had to leave is ok...

Another excellent day at the Shoreline. Our view from the middle of Section 102 was worlds better than the back of 202. Wilco didn't repeat any songs from Saturday. Their set:
Remember the Mountain Bed
new song (yet another one I'd never heard before)
What Light
Heavy Metal Drummer
Christ for President (Glenn playing an actual stop sign from Sunnyvale)
I'm the Man Who Loves You (dedicated to Susan)
I Shall Be Released (with Pegi and Neil Young)
Neil played with almost everyone today. Only Death Cab didn't have any guests in their set - Smashing Pumpkins brought up Josh Groban for "Disarm." Neil's closing set was almost the same as last night, with one different song. The ensemble singalong was great - props to Nels for pushing Jeff up front to share a mic with Norah Jones and Sasha Dobson.
hahahahahaha...Jeff dedicated it to Neil and "Patti"!!!! Guess it's been a long tour! Go gettem Jeff and Co. We's luvs us some Wilco. Evidently Nora Jones does too!

gotta love Jeff's "glad you found love" comment, and nod during Jesus, etc. to the "crazy man" too...
nice set, but rushed and short...pretty much the theme for the weekend (beside the other gripes about logistics, pa failures, etc.)

They were smart enough to exclude the fact that he probably doesn't record much on those Vox amps.
Still kick ass stuff though, I'd be happy to get an endorsement. I guess I better sit here and hold my breath.
even the da 5 breaks up pretty good for a toy...

Check out this podcast from Dusty Wright. Bob is asked who his favorite new band(s) are and he mentions Wilco as a band he ejoys "mightily". It is a great interview. Enjoy!
I hope this worked!
Glad to hear ole Bobby is staying hip and discovering "new" bands like Wilco! Maybe oneday Jeff will let him open!

the albums are so different and never were the focus of the band...still though try live dead, american beauty, blues for allah, mars hotel, dead set, europe 72, ...or just start downloading shows...start with years 69-73, 77, 87...maybe go to the dead forums to get some real "opinions" on this!

I saw Magnolia Electric Co. last night for the first time. Short but very sweet just like I expected from previous posts over the years from VCers.
'
on the ironic side of the short issue...when they played the fillmore last spring, jason said..."ok, we've got time for 2 more..." the crowd was basically unsupportive/silent(except for the typical inane chitchat, cell phone bs that is so common nowadays at shows)...he then said, " ok, sounds like 1 more.."

Holy crap. I wonder if this was taped...
yes...it's on wolfgang's vault now...long live MMJ! but grow the hair back...

So, I've got an early 80's Japanese strat. I now have several guitars that outclass the thing, but it has sentimental value, and I just can't seem to part with it. My wife and I just bought a new house, and there's room for a workshop (in addition to my studio above the garage), so I'm thinking about undertaking a project. I'm going to put some new pickups in the strat and install a new tremelo (I hard-tailed it years ago) and pickguard. I was also considering taking the paint off and refinishing the body with some kind of wood stain. Has anyone here ever done something like this? Any suggestions?
Done lots of stuff like this...piece of cake, just take your time and do your research...Don't even need a workshop, though it will make your wife happy to not see you doing this on the dining room table! Beware that even japanese strats have some resale value, so refinishing will take it down a few bucks probably. Also, they often are made of three pieces of wood, so they don't look that great without paint...not a single slab o wood with nice grain like the american strats, though you could put some veneer over it too...lots of stuff on the web about this stuff.

I have a 62 Jazzmaster reissue that I have had for about a year and a half. I love the clean tone, but I am a fan of the gritty sound of Humbuckers also. A friend of mine mentioned once seeing Jeff playing a Jazzmaster with a Humbucker in the bridge pick-up location. Don't know if this is true, but it is a tantalizing idea. Does anyone know if this has been done before, and if so, what are the pro's and cons of the switch?
don't screw up a classic guitar...go buy some parts and make one with the pickups you want...just my two cents

Overall it is a "rather sit down & watch" crowd in Santa Barbara, but that doesn't make it good or bad. There were a few us of dancing on Handshake, you weren't the only white ass there, but perhaps you were Bottom line is the show was excellent and Wilco is one of the very few bands making music that matters.
BTW, at the Pacific Amphitheatre during the Bob Dylan show, ushers came around telling people to sit. That was a first.
no...it is bad...had a couple decades of shows at the bowl, my experience tells me that if you're not down in front or way up in the back, you get hassled for shaking it...lots of stories to tell, but most end up there (not to mention getting chased down the street by security for trying to sneak a teeny amount of herb in the gate...yes, it was confiscated, and no, they didn't get me..and yes, I came back in later...) sb is pretty hung up for such a beautifual "laid back" town. I think part of the deal is the permit conditions for the Bowl, and the nearby wealthy (i.e. politically connected) neighbors... Now Friday night at the Greek, I looked around and saw 8000 people shaking it all night! That's the way it should be for one of the best bands ever!

Whoa...that would have been smokin'...Maybe that's why the show seemed like it might not be over (though in all finality...it was).
