Another great show tonight. My 4th time seeing the band, and while not the best (DC night 1 in February takes that cake), it was still a lot of fun. As said, the show was really loose, and the band was having a lot of fun. The "It's Just That Simple" "Forget The Flowers" "Box Full Of Letters" run was fantastic and unexpected, and "Via Chicago" sounded fantastic. Jeff noticeably flubbed on "Jesus Etc" and after the song said he lost his place because he's really been into The Wire recently and was wondering if Omar was at the show.

  2. it must be the magic of new orleans!

this was such a wonderful, generous broadcast. the wilcos' easygoing, peaceful freedom made for a phenomenal, fluid, jamtastic electrical charge that was stunning. the first marathon set took your breath away; jeff's voice was very direct and purely present.

nothingsever, pot kettle, magazine, and theologians were definite highlights. hate it here was particularly alive w/the total pros tonight (what a fabulous job they've done!). i wonder if they have been to cafe du monde.

wilco is one of the best reasons to stay up late. here's to cafe au lait coupled with wilco bliss!

  3. this was a real treat! it was beautiful to see them so joyously taking in this moment; they looked and sounded wonderful. the suit, sneaks and still frames were fabulous (how photogenic!). so awesome!

  4. wednesday's whimsical treats: john, someday soon, roses, box full of letters, pieholden (this song is gold & yay, total pros!), i'm always in love and...

on and on and on. we were just so lucky to hear this live; i felt like time made sure to hold its full beauty.

jeff mentioned that they had sifted through past years' dc set lists and worked to include tunes they hadn't played as often. the effort was totally appreciated and it's as if everyone found their song.

everyone looked fresh and the banter about the grammy presented on night one, a stuffed, singing toy from an audience member ("time to turn off your computer. go read a book."), jeff's hat vs. the chiquita banana's, and play-by-play of nels' double-necked guitar for listeners at home was perfect.

they're winning many new hearts each evening. on the way home, everyone was so glad to have experienced and shared such tight magic. for first-time attendees, this was especially and understandably soulquaking. it's awesome to see the wilco waves of love joyously splashing everywhere. kindred spirits in mermaid avenue treasures, unite!

i hear the total pros will be with them saturday for snl. it shall be fabulous! both hate it here and walken were most righteous and punchy live with their bombasticity. i think pieholden is so enchanting that it'd be such a delight of a second song. i hope they will crash at least one skit!

celebrate it many times over with npr!

colinh9 ~ ooh, that is a terrific encore set, but casino queen>i'm a wheel>monday was very fitting for the feeling of tonight's show. one concert when you least expect it, they'll whip out elt and close w/hoodoo and you'll be in total rapturous bliss. like halloween in june. the lonely 1, even crazier.

  5. Just from checking out the board, I realize that a lot of real Wilco fans won't be able to attend ANY night of the "complete Wilco," whether it be because of high demand or those evil ticket brokers. I know how upset I was after not scoring any tickets during the musictoday presale, and I feel that no Wilco fan shouldn't miss these shows, so I have an offer to make.

I scored 2 5-day passes myself, and have found 4 major-to-casual Wilco fans to accompany me to 4 of those shows. I have other people to consider for the other night, but frankly, it wouldn't matter much to them if they seen one of these shows or not. As much as I love turning people on to new music, I'll wait until the next Auditorium show to try to convert someone new into a Wilco fan.

So what I'm trying to say is, on Tuesday, February 19th, I'd love for one of you fans to join me! And I don't mean you have to pay me the $100 that people on Stubhub feel is the right price, you can come for free!

But here is the catch. I'd appreciate it if it was somebody that did not score ANY tickets whatsoever for this. If you have tickets for Friday and Saturday and would just like to score a free ticket to Tuesday night, sorry but I'd rather give someone else the opportunity. Not like I'd know either way... but come on guys its the holidays!

So I guess the only fair way to do this is, either reply to this message or PM me and tell me why you think this ticket should be yours. Be creative. Explain how big of a fan you are, or how Wilco changed your life, or how you're a millionaire and you'll buy me a house if I take you, etc. I know I'm making it sound like I'm giving away a car or something, but I really wanna make this fair and this is the only way I can think of.

Oh and just remember... you have to part with the pass once we are inside so I can take my friend on Wednesday night! And don't try any funny stuff!

so sweet a chicago holiday treat! kindness kudos all-around :)

  6. I hope Jeff does some solo shows. I have yet to see him solo, but from all the live recordings I have, it seems like it would be awesome.

me, too! that'd be wonderful, esp. in late january or february with some snow. much great creation and fun with all the side proj sounds!

  7. wow, what a tremendous show we had! from the crisp fall breeze to a set list woven from the sky above, saturday evening in charlottesville was really special, a celebration. highlights included jeff on opener sunken treasure (crystalline!), it's just that simple (john's voice is just beautiful), hoodoo voodoo (we lucked out), adorable hummingbird dancing (jeff and a younger audience member), the ever-talented palette of nels, glenn, mike, and pat (so fun to watch), and wilco's amazing accomplishment of touring the states so thoroughly and commitedly for sky blue sky since spring. do tune in: such a rockin' capstone for this album's fulfilling creations and blissful connections this year! a very hearty congratulations and dear thank you, wilco; we love you!

  8. ARE YOU INSANE????

This band is so talented, so musically genius, so in command of their playing.... they are on top of the world and singing songs!

I've seen Wilco at all the shows you mentioned.... EL REY, FORD AMPITHEATER, WILTERN, GREEK.... and last night was one of the best I've ever seen! The setlist was immaculate. The performance was spectacular. These guys are the most amazing band making music today (but, I don't have to sell that here at V.C.)

I think you're confusing "rythmically tight" with "so talented that they can bend time itself". Glenn is a monster on the drums... John is at his most solid and subtle.... dynamic and loose and what a swing that they put on WALKEN... what an incredible crescendo and release to YOU ARE MY FACE.... a transcendant ON AND ON

this show was like seeing The Beatles in '68. This band is now part of history, part of the Universal Consciousness....

and last night was an incredible show. Thank you Jeff, John, Glenn, Mikael, Pat and Nels.

such a great comment! gotta love the Universal Consciousness :yes

    rock on, los angeles!
