  1. people need to learn how to use the search function - at least that is what I was taught. And while we are it - people also need to stop posting Mp3's of shows.

That is what I'm talking about - teach the newbies how to do it instead of just getting pissed at them - regardless of you being the one getting pissed, or not (giving props to analogman here to be clear) But just wondering why no mp3's?

Also, if you liked the band since day one or you just heard about them when they had a VW commercial, who really cares as long as the passion and love is genuine for their incredible music. Luckily I fall somewhere between there but whether you were a founding member of this forum/board or not. It is a public forum. Peeps should figure out the etiquette (including myself) and follow the rules and regulations. If keeping it totally old school is the idea, make it private where the moderator or an existing member need to invite you to be part if it? Dig?

I know that this is now getting farther and farther away from the original topic of the thread but it is definitely relevant.

  2. Philosophical debates/discussions on the bands music and lyrics (whether for or not) about religion seems totally proper to me. Some people just don't want to think or talk about that stuff regardless and avoid it by getting into music like Wilco's in the first place This is why it is affiliated it is frowned upon by some. It is a whole thread all in itself I would tend to think. It is a slippery slope when you get beliefs involved in peoples opinions because there really are no ultimate truths when it comes to opinions (no matter how whacked out they are).

In reading through some of the threads on this board (and responses to this thread in particular) I have found some rather harsh voices on here. However, the point is a free speech forum where peeps can get their voice heard, questions pondered, or their wilco-nerd-flag-a-waving.

Still a little common courtesy to the newbies (and old-schoolers) wouldn't hurt anyone but it seems mixed across the board anyways. There are always going to be people that are kind and people that are dicks in everything you do and everywhere you go. It is part of the balance of the universe. Hence, to be expected even on the forum of the great Wilco ( :worship ) with their legions of fans. However, I have found an overall message of love for the human-experience in their music and Jeff's lyrics. Make of that what you will.

I am going to step down from my metaphorical soapbox by saying I love (:cheekkiss) the spirit and music of Wilco, and the majority of the fans on this board. Yes I do expect to get slammed by one of you or another for this post but it won't slow me down one way or the other. Keep on. (:thumbup - :rock)

  3. Here's a mp3 teaser from last night, the sound in the ballroom does suck but the recording actually came out decent. I'll get the whole show torrented in 2 or 3 more days. I don't get a whole lot of free bandwidth, so grab it while you can!

    Hate It Here

SWEET. How do we get the rest of the tracks? Is it posted somewhere? Also, where do I see that poster art? I would have loved to buy one and support the members of the board's artistic endeavors..

  4. That show was in par with all the other Wilco shows I've been blessed to see this year. AMAZING. The room really didn't sound all "THAT" bad either. I did totally miss Andrew Bird though having to work until 5 and then with Traffic (and him starting at 7:30 sharp)..... Kind of LAMO that there were no collaborations. Tweedy did get his whistle on and then make a reference but that was it. Kind of weak. Jeff unplugged during the encore was a treat (except for the most obnoxious clapper of all time, you know the one guy out of 2000 people that just can't "Get it"). Great show.

  5. That is a dream show. Tons of Chi-Town folk are driving to Shwill-Town, aka milWOOKee, aka Milwaukee. That is gonna be nanners if they do any collaborations. These are two of my strongest musical influences and the greatest living songwriters on the same stage on the same night. Absolutely amazing.

    STOKED STOKED STOKED STOKED......

The pain in my A$$ is that I have work in Chicago both days and I am going with my sister to see Regina Spektor the night before so it looks like a lot of back and forth for me that week. Oh well, it's worth it.

  6. Well I saw the Chicago show on Saturday night. I am a huge Ryan Adams fan and was worried about the backlash of the MN scenario. He actually made a joke about it "Don't ask Neal, he only plays guitar" or something of that nature. Ryan and the Cardinals are on fire right now. SO tight, SUCH great harmonies, and their songwriting is IMMACULATE. The poster from the Chicago show has a dude sitting in front of Wrigley Field the day after the Cubbies clinch their division and a guaranteed trip to the playoffs. Pretty sweet. The Magnolia Mountain opener jammed so hard it was worth the whole ticket but the rest of the show rocked too. The guy however did 3 encores. All of which were boring and sub-par even for a self-proclaimed Ryan Adams freak like myself. The rest of the show was pure beauty.

Wilco fans that aren't hip to this group do yourselves a favor and get hip. Those of you that are haters - give it another try, trust me.

  7. Yeah - HOB is owned by live nation. Many bands at that level don't have much of an option. Here in Chicago bands at that level either work with live nation, JAM, or indie promoters like me. We get screwed by the corp companies like that all the time. Working the grind and building up bands until they are big enough to work with them; then they get snaked. Also, if we go to do shows with the bigger acts, the room rentals of the places owned by those companies are so outrageous that it makes it impossible for us to put on the show. BULLSHIT. The crossover happens when it becomes more of a business than a passion. No offense to any of those companies. They can do their thing but I have no prob sticking to shows we believe in, with reasonable ticket prices, and working with artists/managers/agents who appreciate relationship longevity. Now they want to tax a little harder on tickets though. Wowsers.

However - sometimes these companies throw me a bone for my acts too so I am trying to stay fair here this analysis.

  8. First of all - I am a Wilco forum rookie that just got a profile on here today... So, woops and sorry about the re:post topic in the first place (AtticusPoonGoggler). I will try to search better before I start a new thread next time. However, my reply to some of the responses are.... If you ever listen to Ryan Adams and the Cardinals live in their more raw state you would hear more of the similarities between them and Wilco (especially in the current incarnation). I do recognize that "album wise" Ryan Adams' production is far more polished. There are also several comparisons to the Grateful Dead everywhere these days, mostly due to sky blue sky's, production and songwriting. So yeah that would be amazing. Ryan has toured with Phil and Friends and Phil Lesh the legendary Bassist of the Grateful Dead has said that Ryan Adams has the most soul out of anyone he's ever played with besides the late Jerry Garcia. I know every single Wilco fan can relate to Tweedy's level of musical and spiritual soul. This is more of what I was talking about in the first place. Thanks for responding to all of you, as again this was my first thread.

  9. I understand why someone wouldn't dig on Go To Heaven and or Shakedown St but both have a few undeniably classic cuts. Just peep these stand out tracks as I retract my statement as to them being stand out album's:

    Go To Heaven:

    Alabama Getaway

    Althea

    Feel Like a Stranger

    Shakedown St:

    Good Lovin

    Shakedown St

    Fire On The Mountain

    New Minglewood Blues

  10. People can love or hate on them as much as they'd like but the dead are a HUGE part of music history and some of the best musicians and songwriters of our era. Here are 6 Dead albums that you shouldn't live without.

    American Beauty

    Workingman's Dead

    Terrapin Station

    From the Mars Hotel

    Go To Heaven

    Shakedown St

Some newer and older wilco material has been heavily compared to the dead. When I met Tweedy this summer after the amazing Murat Theater show in Indy my buddy asked him if he was a fan of Jerry Garcia. Tweedy's response was this:

"You are not the first person to ask me that lately. A lot of people seem to think there are similarities. I am not a really a fan but I am also not a hater. Maybe I should check them out again."

I think if he does he will see lyrical and melodic comparisons to himself and Jerry. Tweedy is one of the greatest living songwriters and a genuinely humble rock star. What a great person.

  11. "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" and "The Thanks I Get".

It might be kind of cliche but god damn is it fitting. This is my first post/reply on the forum. Nice to meet you all.

honorable mention goes to: "Walken", "At Least That's What You Said", and "Ashes Of American Flags"
