Great show last night. Hard to pick a favorite, but I always like me a good "California Stars." The vibe from the band and the crowd was reminiscent of the Residency. Speaking of the Residency, only two things could've made it better:
- "It's Just That SImple"
- The Total Pros
Donna, I'm glad you were able to make it and I knew the drive would be worth it!

Today was declared LeBron James Day in Dallas. Everyone gets to leave work 12 minutes early.

Was just coming back to correct myself on that, so thanks. I guess maybe it was originally scheduled for Schuba's but they got the new place open in time. Anyway, Liam and EJ are well worth catching, especially since they're not opening the UIC shows.
Also, Lincoln Hall is technically on, um, Lincoln, right?
Well, yep...just another reason not to hit the pipe at work

You should go see Rhett Miller and the Serial Lady Killers at Park West on Friday night and Liam Finn and Eliza Jane Barnes at Schuba's on Saturday night.
Liam Finn is actually playing at Lincoln Hall Saturday night - Schuba's new venue on Fullerton.

So then who do we get in Chicago? Can't wait to find out. Or will they just do a massive 3 hour show?
Tortoise opening for the Chicago shows only.

I don't know how someone could possibly be a former fan of Wilco.. Once your hooked, you are hooked for life.. He probably never really was a fan before.. But every Wilco fan I know is like you. I know I am.. My friends/family get annoyed with how much I talk about them.. "Check out this new bootleg!" "I'm going to see them in Charleston!"... I have said before that I love several other bands, but there is Wilco, and then there is everyone else..
Well said. I couldn't agree more. I think Jerry Garcia's quote about Deadheads is very appropriate to Wilco fans (Wilcoholics? Wilcodependents?): "Our audience is like people who like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice, really like licorice."

Have you ever seen Kermit Ruffins?? I want to catch something like that while im down there.
Excellent choice. He used to play every Thursday at Vaughn's in Bywater which is a great little spot. I haven't been to NOLA in a few years years, but I'm assuming he still has that standing gig. So stay an extra day following the shows - it's well worth it.

That's exactly what I suggested. It's cheap (relatively speaking), and it's nice. I send my parents there when the wife and I don't want them staying with us. The one problem is that the Diversey el stop is closed for repairs. It's a healthy walk to the next closest red-line stop at Belmont, or the brown line at Wellington (at which case you'll have to transfer at Belmont anyway).
And it's a block from Jake's Pub, one of the greatest bars in the city.

That was my first thought as well. I can just see his attorney arguing "If the sample was not refrigerated, Ryan must be liberated."
