Thanks for your reply. I abstain from downloading illegally as a general principal, so I'm not really that concerned about this particular "pledge." I just wondered what the particular (peculiar?) etiquette was in WilcoWorld.
So, who are these people who A. manage to get the record before it's released and B. put it up online to be illegally downloaded? Those are the people who need pledges of this sort. I am but a mere though enthusiastic and eager fan. If the HQ has a stream and emails me about it, I'll stream it. I'll also purchase it, and if the band were coming to a town near us we'd buy tix, too. (We've traveled to see them in the past but it's not financially feasible this time around.)
I guess what I'm saying is that though I do suffer from sleeplessness, it's not due to illegal streaming of Wilco (or any other) music.

We subscribed to Paste since its inception and agree that the mag has fallen off in quality in the last two-three+ years.
Personally, I'm not inclined to donate $$ to save it. In fact, if I did send $$ I would almost surely jinx it as I did when sending $$ to DoubleTake mag, the Oxford American mag (I'm still incensed that Marc Smirnoff let all that $$ get stolen), Backstreets fanzine, No Depression. Can't think of another mag I've supported that's gone under but I'm sure there must be more.
Nope. It's sad to see these mags go but can't foot the bill for them any more.

Forgive my Cherry-Ghostish ignorance, but is it considered wrong to listen to the stream they have on the website?
If it's any compensation, I did then pre-order it.
God knows we've purchased enough tix, posters and tchotkes over the years to clear my good name if it's not. Not to mention word-of-mouth, shouting-from-mountaintops and - if that didn't work - twisting-of-arms to the Wilco fold.

Just finished a first listen and immediately did a pre-order (love the tote!). I'm really, really happy with the whole thing.
Did I hear a musical saw on one track? Or was that just another of those electronic things? Either way, I liked it.
You and I is my fave but the one about Kids Grow up! is right up there, too. Will have to listen again to have more concrete reflections. Just had to sign in after two years or so to share my smile.

Y'all can have your Schadenfreude now. Shut OUT.

There's also a presale for most shows through Wilcoworld. They'll post the date of the presale right on the page with the tour dates, and all you have to do at that day and time is click on the link there and it will take you to the presale. The fact that they make the presales free for everyone instead of launching some stupid money-making fan club is one of the reasons I love them so much.
For real? So, there's no presale password?
I'm sorry I keeping asking this quesstion (3 posts to my name, all on this question), but I have that jittery ticket-getting thing goin on bigtime here.
Thanks.

I, too, am confused about the password for the Nashville presale.
Can anyone help me out, please? I will be eternally grateful for any help you guys can share.
Thank you!

I'd just like to add my shock and grief and express my sincere condolences to all the people Jay Bennett touched with his music. I'm so saddened by this news.
In Blackwater Woods
Look, the trees
are turning
their own bodies
into pillars
of light,
are giving off the rich
fragrance of cinnamon
and fulfillment,
the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away over
the blue shoulders
of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
name is, is
nameless now.
Every year
everything
I have ever learned
in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side
is salvation,
whose meaning
none of us will ever know.
To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.
