  1. Had a great run on W.A.S.T.E. this morning...

    Tix secured for:

Montreal - "The Parc" is a great outdoor venue providing the weather cooperates. The 2 shows they did a couple of years ago at the Symphony Hall were simply the best two live shows I have ever seen!

Both Nights @ The Hollywood Bowl and the Santa Barbara show to boot...will fly out to CA and see these three shows and spend some time in Santa Barbara wine country doing the "Sideways" thing -- which means drinking "no fucking Merlot!"

I am way too excited for these shows...hope others got tix during today's pre sale -- they will be a bitch to grab on Saturday when Ticketmaster puts them up...

  2. I will be there too - weather permitting. I am Vermont and am supposed to fly to Des Moines tomorrow morning. We are in the midst of an ice storm...so, won't know until early tomorrow. Would love to meet up with VC'ers who are looking to grab a few beers before the show. Staying at the Embassy Suites - have never been to Des Moines before, but the Val Air sounds like a great place to see the band.

  3. Saw both nights in DC (and the New Haven show as well)

I really enjoyed night one a lot more than than night two. The sound and the mix were considerably better - and the overall looseness of the show made it, well, more fun and a way better listen. I agree with others that the sound on night two was muddy which I found very distracting. There is really no excuse for bad sound in the 9:30 Club...

Anyway - it was lots of fun...as always. I still have one more to attend - Des Moines - hoping for a residency-like tour closer.

  4. Just getting back to Vermont from last night's show at The Shubert. I haven't seen the band since they closed the VooDoo Festival in NOLA last October - so it was terrific hear them deviate from the standard SBS set list that had set it. I thought the show was terrific and the crowd was great. You don't often get a crowd that stands for almost the entire show in a theatre setting. The sound was perfect and the played exceptionally well. They seemed a bit tired (Jeff's voice started to give late in the show), but with all the festivities at The Riv recently - it makes sense.

Highlights for me were Mtn. Bed, Pick up the Change, Hotel Arizona, Radio Cure, and Being There closers...

I am off to DC tomorrow morning for business (no really - it is a business trip) and look forward to both nights at the 9:30 which is one of the best places to see this band...

  5. Wendy-

thanks so much for posting the ukulele sessions with okkervil river - wow! this band is the real deal folks. i caught them in montreal and burlington last fall - both shows were simply terrific. "the stage names" is one of the best records of last year. will sheff is - well - lets just say, in ten years we will all still be talking about him this band.

  6. Like the response above - this was a fun exercise - I won't bore you with a list of each venue, but highlight my favorites.

Wilco - 27 shows (will be going to New Haven, 9:30, and Des Moines on the upcoming tour)

    Tweedy - 5 times

    Autumn Defense - 1 time

    First Show - 2/13/97 @ 9:30 Club

Last Show - Voodoo Music Experience in NOLA

    Best Shows - 4/22/99 @ Michael's on 8th in Glen Burnie, MD, 7/10/00 Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA, 9/29/01 @ Electric Factory in Philly, 10/13 + 14/02 @ 9:30 Club, 6/9/04 @ 9:30 Club, 10/31/04 Aud. Theatre, 6/28/05 @ Metropolis in Montreal.

  7. I brought my 9 year old son and 5 year old son to see the band last summer...they both had a great time. However, it was an outdoor show on a beautiful summer night in the northeast. I say go for it - particularly if she is very familiar with Wilco's music - that increased the enjoyment for my kids a lot.

  8. sweetheart-mine -- thanks again...

Bar sounds great. All this talk about New Haven style pizza has made me very curious...and hungry. Good beer is always a plus too. Just learned that a business trip will allow me to see the final show of the tour in Des Moines!!! So, I have got New Haven, the two 9:30 shows, and now Des Moines...pretty happy about being able to catch 4 shows in this upcoming tour.

  9. My wife and I will be heading down to the New Haven show from Burlington. Can someone recommend a nice hotel that is close to the Shubert (preferably walking distance) - and close to some good food and drink places -- the pizza joints mentioned above sound great...

    Thanks.

  10. Nightclub 9:30 is truly one of the great live music venues in the country - I lived in DC many years ago and used to see all sorts of cool bands at the old 9:30 on F St. in what used to be a bombed out part of town. When the folks at IMP bought the warehouse that now houses the new 9:30 - it was a total dump. I remember seeing the Beastie Boys there in 92 and everything about the joint was shitty - hot, terrible sound etc... I believe the dropped about 3.5 million into the renovations in the early 90's to get the place ready to go. They kept it simple - make a venue that sounds fantastic from everywhere in the room, spread the bars out so drink lines are not long, and create a space the bands always want to play in. They succeeded - mightily.

I now in live Vermont - but will making the trip to New Haven and DC for the two 9:30 shows. If you have or can get tix (that's the big problem now) - and live within a days a drive, go see these two shows - Wilco loves this club and always plays well there.

  11. I am long time lurker on the board - just posted yesterday for the first time and want to thank a couple of way nice vc'ers for helping me get the password for New Haven.

    Best '07 Moments:

    1) Bringing my entire family (mom, wife, two boys - 9&5) to the Shelburne, VT show. Three generations of Wilco fans (yes, my mom loves the band) seeing the band together for the first time. The soundcheck that day was outstanding as well.

    2) Having my photograph selected as one of the winners of this years contest - "Ice Cream Girls" is the picture.

    3) Up close at Merriweather - which was the best show I saw this year.

    4) Grabbing a ticket for face value (7th row) for the Pritzker Pavillion show while in Chicago on business - priceless.

    Worst '07 Moments:

    1) Listening to loud "talkers" at the Pines show in Northampton standing right next to us - I am talking LOUD...

    2) Realizing that I cannot make any of the shows at the Riv no matter how hard I have to justify it...
