  1. I always thought the intellectual level of Wilco fans was higher than this..I guess not.

Are you guys serious or are you just fucking with us?? (In case you guys have forgotten...Wilco supports Obama....)

    LouieB

I sense a tad of irony in the above post.

Wilco fans have a higher IQ than most people.

Wilco supports Obama therefore I support Obama.

  4. Which ones?

The ones who imply or insist that Trig is not actually her son? The ones who attack her family? Sure. But the same should go for people who believe ridiculous conspiracies about any candidate, or people who attack Barney Frank for being gay, or people who attack the way Nancy Pelosi looks, or the people who criticize Obama's family.

Now the people who criticize her extreme political and personal views and experience and lack of qualification to be a candidate for the highest office in our nation? To me, that's all fair game.

And to imply, as you have done, that Obama has somehow had it easier as far as criticism goes than Bush is just ridiculous.

I have never seen anyone get so much shit from all sides other than Palin; and yes all those arguments in regards to Barney, Pelosi and Obama are valid.

Her qualifications are similar to Obama; and I did not want either of them.

Now I know you are bias if you cannot see that as of today Bush has had a much more challenging time in regards to critics and insults.

  5. Well at least we know that now. Which agency?

Maybe you are not really expressing your true politics here, but somehow I have no other way to take your comments.

    LouieB

    County and City Courts

Louie I am expressing my true politics. I never said I was a tea party member, I never said I was a fan of Palin, in fact I said the opposite. All I said about Palin is that her attackers should be ashamed of themselves.

I also said the extreme ideas of cutting schools and other government programs are misguided. I do think many of those programs need a major overhaul. Billions are being wasted. I am a in the idea that politics are local and most matters are state matters - it leaves more power to the people.

Politics are not black and white, despite what MSNBC, FOX and the other networks want us to believe.

    I still like you.

  6. I read your posts. We should let everyone get healthcare themselves and the govenment shouldn't supply it right? I get that. Social security is bad. I get that too. You wouldn't access either of those goverment programs even if you needed them. I got that too.

Meanwhile I am not making any assumption about who you are. You could be a 60 year old lesbian living in Canada for all I know since you don't post any personal information.

You get to believe anything you want. Take care of your family and friends and don't access government programs if you don't wish to; that's fine, it leaves those services to those who need them.

And BTW, maybe the govenment DID fail in the egg crises. I don't know who was where when or when who blew which whistle. You don't reveal what you do for a living (I am clearly on record as a government bureaucrat for better or worse), but I do know that the without any government oversight the egg crises might still be going on. The government can't be everywhere at all times so some health crises do occur. But without ANY government control we know that defective products, unsafe food, unsafe drugs, etc, would flood the market all the time without impunity. What IS your possition on the government safeguards? Oh yea, that's right...all corporations should be able to decide what is safe and what is not, that's not the governments job.

    LouieB

Your assumptions on me are quite extreme. With what postings would you conclude such assumptions about me?

BTW I was a Government employee for nine years.

  7. don't disagree with this one bit. i think the new songs are great but sometimes dislike the old versions played live.

The odd thing about it all is that it is done purposely; for Adam and Luther both are excellent musicians.

Their take on some old tunes are just plain wrong.

    Hey Grandma

  8. Maybe not, but he appears to be supporting the teapartiers positions that goverment shouldn't do for people what people should be doing for themselves, whatever that means. In a perfect world everyone could do everything for themselves, but the real world just isn't like that. I suppose it is in whatever world he inhabits where all families are intact, working, educated, not disabled, and are in communities where private charities and businesses take care of all members of the community no matter what. Some parts of the world are like that I suppose.

(Teabagger is a nickname that is no longer used...sorry...but it is funny.)

    LouieB

HAHA of course I support the idea of people caring for themselves rather than a allowing the government to care for them. I also support a government that does not enable a problem, or escalate a problem.

Again you have a ridiculous behavior of assuming one's position in life. I would try to curb this behavior of yours, for you are way off.

  9. Hey Kate...long tine no see....

It takes a teabagger like D-Dogg to bring you back. My thought exactly, except burning houses happens less than chronically ill, children (including adult children without jobs), older folks who need medical care, unemployed adults who need health care, food, and other essentials, etc.

Jesus, you really have a preconceived image of all posters. Open that head of yours... you will be amazed.

The rock bottom cynical me thinks we should just roll all of these programs back and then even the right wingers will be (quite literally) dying for them to be brought back.

Even ikols comment about SSDI being fraught with fraud is interesting considering Social Security denies everyone for these benefits (I have an old friend who is a lawyer who works for SS and he works appeals)and people take years getting them if they can. Yes, it is true the government is has one of the highest % for denying claims, but for some reason (including our President) many want Government health care / single pay system.

It is ironic that fraud from government entitlement programs gets so much play (and trust me I see it every day so it is disturbing) but fraud and corruption by corporations, which actually is a much larger problem and involved much richer people (crime is crime, one's income should not be an issue)

doesn't seem to bother these folks at all. What folks? When did I tell you I was not bothered by corporate crime and corruption? Try not to formulate the posts of others, in which you do not agree, into one evil bad poster.

Clearly there is lots of room for rolling back fraud and waste in government programs; folks and both the right and left are concerned about this, but we blindly let corporations not pay taxes,

Meanwhile the only group that can curtail fraud and waste in either the public or private sector are (gasp) government workers (like me). As soon as shit goes wrong people wonder how come the government didn't step in and do something (such as the recent egg recall which was not done by the industry it was done by....ta da....the government), but without govenment oversight health and safety and fraudulant behavoir would be rampant (and eggs with samonilla would still be on the market.)

Not to be a dick, but didn't the government fail with the egg salmonella episode? I mean if regulators and inspectors did their job correctly those eggs would have never made it out to the public. Around a half a billion eggs had to be recalled and what 1,000 people got sick. The stores that provided those eggs may no longer provide them to their customers and the people who bought those eggs sure as hell won't buy them again; that's how that problem gets fixed. Again not to be a dick but I think you contradicted yourself in your post. You wrote of all the evil corporations that participate in "unfair and illegal practices" but then you wrote that without government intervention, and the great work that you do in the government, fraudulent activities would run rampant. Which one is it?

  10. The Libertarians have me up until this point.

The problem lies in that there are aspects of society which are not well served by the free market system; where the profit motive is the incorrect approach. If your argument is that charitable organizations fill the gap, why haven't they already done so? Imagine for a minute that the last two Democratic presidents were not as much interested in infiltrating capitalism with socialism, but answering a real need in our society.

Perhaps if the government did not tax so much money more would be given to charity from the private sector. Government takes money, and then gives it to someone else that needs it right? However they only give a % of that money while keeping some for administration costs, red tape bureaucracy, and or theft.

The medical/insurance system is broken. When the Libertarians can come up with a system that makes more sense than 30k to have a baby, why don't you give me a call.

I don't have an answer to this, but why can we pay for our pets surgery and not our own? Why do hospitals and Medical schools fight to prevent more hospitals and medical schools to be developed in their area?

My daughter, a 9th grader in public school, told me last night that her best friend in private school had recieved the HPV vaccine. In the free market this vaccine costs $400. In private scool it is apparently free.

Privatize primary schools? Why don't you people go fuck yourselves.

Please re-read my posts. I am not Atlas Shrugged, I am not a Tea Party member. Private Schools pale in comparison to public schools regarding several subjects including Science. We need to reorganize and have a new system for public schools, not sure if local property tax takes care of the problem and I think a federal solution to local problems such as schools is also not the answer. Again it would be too much bureaucracy; shit already is..

How do you KNOW you won't need social security or government insurance. How do you know your kids won't need it?? (How old are they? Just wait until they get older or develop chronic health issues, you MAY feel differently...) No one can see the future, not even you.

Pork is non-partisan. Even if YOU don't want it your friends and neighbors not only want it, they expect it. They want it for those pet projects in their districts and will vote out any elected representative who doesn't bring it.

I agree with you about pork, I strongly disagree with you about social programs. You just never know. They are there to help folks who need help. Are you against doing this?? It could be you, your family or your friends who ultimately benefit; or maybe you plan to pony up for those folks support, health care, or other essential services when the time comes. Good luck with that.

    LoueiB

I don't know the future, not at all. However I do not spend my money on luxuries I cannot afford. Instead I am saving a large % of each check. I pay for things with cash and not credit. All I said is I am doing everything possible to prevent me reliance on the government.

Absolutely pork is non-partisan, however my friends do not want it. There are examples around this country where officials get voted in time and time again for saying no. However Pork is still distributed to their districts and from that point they decide what to do with it.

Social Programs have excellent intentions, however the cost and unintended negative consequences are becoming more of a problem. The welfare state has risen, the % of poor and lower class has risen, we should consider other alternatives rather than pouring more money into the failed system. I KNOW most everyone can do better for themselves. I have faith in people to do that.

LouieB in regards to your second to last sentence, we already do.

    Brilliant...seriously.

Lately I have been thinking that maybe we should just turn the entire country over to the tea-baggers/libertarians and let everone at it for awhile. They want it so badly, fuck it.

Regarding D-Dogg's comments about Social Security and other government provided medical care (medicare, medicaid, VA, etc.) nad apparently the other stuff he doesn't approve of (food stamps???). Programs like Social Security are not just for older folks; it also gives aid to the disabled, children who have lost parents, etc. Maybe he should read up on just what supporting those programs do support.

I suppose also in the plan to dump all these programs we should fire up the debters prisons, insane asylums, orphanages, children laboring in factories and mines, etc. etc. All of those things seemed to work pretty well for our ancestors. That way we can stick D-Doggs elderly relatives, friends or his children or relatives children into those when they fall on hard times. Meanwhile let let kids starve without WIC or SNAP or any of those other expensive food programs our hard earned taxes pay for. Let them get out on those street corners and beg for their food. They don't need to be in school when they can be out begging or working in some job.

    LouieB

I live in an area where many people use food stamps - most everyone on food stamps has comcast cable and smokes a pack of cigarettes a day. Many are on bowling leagues and drink. Others that are on WIC enjoy the same luxuries. The intention is whole hearted, however many of the people take advantage of the situation. It is a fine line, I understand that. I don't agree with not allowing people of low income to enjoy their leisure, however it comes at the cost of others.

LouieB, why the elderly, friends and children comment?

And please do not assume you know where I stand economically.

  11. It's very easy to hide behind a succinct post that comes across as arrogant.

Why don't you elaborate on it? Let him know how he doesn't know anything.

Copy and paste it from your blog of choice.

No one really knows everything. Not even the politicians, as evidenced by recent debates.

View my post however you choose, but arrogant it is not. However the cat, in the post he provided, comes off like he is pulling the tag line from some left wing blog that describes an image of the tea party, an image that is provided to the blogger by other left wingers rather than actual factual sexual beliefs of the tea party.

From my understanding Tea Party would like SS to become privatized. They would also like medicare and medicaid to reduce their payouts. They would also like Schools to become restructured (perhaps privatized) to incite competition and reduce the billions and billions that are wasted.

At Tea Party rallies there are many people that represent the minority population. It is not all white people blaming minorities that they gone out and took dem dier jobs.

Note I am not a tea party member.

Okay...old Moe is right about one thing...."My anger stems from the unbelievable (criminal!) waste of money on pork and earmarks." The problem is EVERYONE, right, left, middle up and down expect their congresspeople to bring home the pork. The rich want the rich pork, the poor want the poor pork and the middle wants the middle pork.

If we stepped back and looked at what real services and programs we really need, it would save money, but no one wants to do that. I mean heaven forbid we should stop spending so much money on the military. And actually I just read that many farmers are having a great year and still get subsidies. The rich refuse to pay more taxes. The only folks who should get what they should get (in my humble commie opinion) are the poor, the poor elderly. the poor infirmed and the disabled. At this point everyone needs to bite the bullet, those with more money need to bit a bigger bullet. We don't need less government, in point of fact no one wants that, we just want less government controlling the things we want. And we still want to get more from the government of what we want to get.

    No tea partier here though.

And an aside to D-Dogg....no matter how much you take care of yourself and your family you and your family still use plenty of government services including roads, schools, etc. etc. We all need basic governmantal services. The minute something goes wrong with health and safety issues people go nuts that the government should have been overseeing things better, whether it is because some crimial assalted you, some insane person killed a relative, you got sick on food or medications or some product, the schools suck, a plane crashes, etc, etc. etc. Or heaven forbid gay people want to get married and have protection or a woman decides to choose to end a pregnancy, then of course government really really needs to control that.....good gawd y'all..... :lol

    LouieB

I agree with some of your thoughts LouieB. Except I don't want Pork brought home, in fact I don't think the Federal Government should have access to all that money. It leads to extortion and bribery (in the form of pork).

Spending money on the military protects the USA and it's interests and all of their allies now and from future problems.

The farm subsidy issue is a huge scam. Has been for years. Senators and NBA players own farms and they get subsidies!!

The rich pay for 75% of all taxes... Why should they continue to pay more?

The poor should be given the opportunity (a real fair opportunity) to get out of the situation they are in, we should not enable them to settle with what they receive.

I know a hell of a lot of people that want less federal government involvement.

Never said I don't benefit from government services such as road, police, fire and schools. But I do not plan on me needing SS or government insurance.

" you got sick on food or medications or some product, the schools suck, a plane crashes, etc, etc. etc. Or heaven forbid gay people want to get married and have protection or a woman decides to choose to end a pregnancy, then of course government really really needs to control that....

There are ways that most of this can be resolved without the federal government, but it seems that last sentence or two was just a noisy rant.

  12. yea, except we ALL (you included) are going to need and use thost programs. These wars....not so much. (then again I guess there are those folks out there who want these programs discontinued.)

Even Mo can now use Social Security and Medicare.

    LouieB

I am making every effort NOT to be part of that system.

I am taking care of myself and my family, while supporting those who do not.

    You are welcome.

What's funny about the teabaggers is they are outraged at the spending. But would they support cutting medicaire? Defense spending? Social Security? No way. Clearly without touching those you are not going to accomplish anything. Somehow they seem to think our deficits can be fixed if we quit helping out all those darn minorities that took out too big a loan for their houses and now can't pay, and all those tons of money going to immigrants. And funniest of all is their attitude that the white man can't seem to get a break in this country! :lol

Wow, you really have no idea what you are talking about.

  13. yeah. that's what i don't get. if they continued to make music like lions, it'd make sense. but all the new shit is solid.

Many do not like Luther's "noodling" and Adam butchers some old classics.

I tend to agree with some of the complaints in regards to some old songs (Wiser Time - Adam just is embarrassing, and listening to him cover Ed on Descending is most awkward), however both are excellent on the albums they help create, and the live renditions.

  14. Man they really hate the crowes over there. I find it amusing but I have to wonder why all the venom? It is a fan site and in my opinion the Crowes have been great since reforming. Just. Curious and I know better than to expect a straight answer on that forum.

Many of the fans are die hard Ford freaks (the guitarist, not the car). They feel he got a raw deal, on both of his departures.

The Crowes have changed drastically since 1990... It was a nice progression until BYS or when Ford left. The albums became weaker as did their shows. They returned back to form in 2005, but again fell apart when Ford left for a second time. The constant rotation of guitarist did not help out their live shows. Luther for the most part is doing quite well.

Are they playing albums in their entirety at the NYC shows?

No, at least they have provided no signs of playing entire albums during this tour.

  15. I find that funnier than all get out. He's eager to intrude on her 'privacy', yet he's posted no trespassing signs and is throwing around all kinds of righteous indignation at his fellow travelers.

    HI Larry us

Hypocrisy is only a weapon against the conservatives.

  16. Funny video, but I only saw one (maybe two) obvious dives in that clip. I think Crosby's proving to be at least as rugged as Gretzky or Lemieux were, and sometimes he gets targeted almost as much as Lindros used to be.

Oh come on, there were more dives in there than that.

I do agree that he is becoming that rugged player. He out did himself getting to the net this playoff season and was taking it for the team.

He is MOST certainly targeted as much as Lindros.

EDIT: I looked for a bunch of videos today of him diving, and tried to find the best one. Maybe I am putting dives from other videos into the one I posted.

  17. As a Canadian I can say Crosby is the most popular player. I think earlier on in his career he got labeled a "cry-baby" by some fans but that was only a small backlash by serious hockey fans. He's silenced a lot of the critics by winning the cup and of course the gold medal winning goal. He could have run for Prime Minister after that goal.

Not sure if it was a small backlash, but I do think he is beginning to get the respect - which he deserves.

Crosby grew up quick and learned to cook in the kitchen. However he was most definitely a cry baby and through him self to the ice quite a bit.

Again Crosby is a great player, fun to watch, and I am glad he grew up.

EDIT: Love the Wing Player nailing him... Wings 2011!

  18. Ok I will bite.

Another thread and another debate that completely misses the larger points. The drug wars in South America do contribute to the violence in Phoenix, but, that is not even half of the people caught trying to cross the border. Now, what would drive these other people, not involved with drug trafficking, to still cross our borders? Could it be the free trade agreements that are in place in their respective countries? Free trade does not build other nations up, but exploits them, which the statistics for illegal immigration into the USA, readily back up. People have been coming to this country since um well it started several hundred years ago, because of the chance for a better more free life. Free trade does not exploit people. Government oppression, bribery and not enforcing laws exploit people. Free trade between countries needs a lot more work. I tend to look at free trade with United States as the example. If each state had their own trade laws, rules and regulations trade and prosperity would be quite inhibited. If the people of the US were not allowed to freely migrate from one state to another for work or leisure growth would for sure be retarded. However with a free trade agreement between all the separate states with the open door policy for foreigners, the US as a whole has experienced great growth

In case you didn't notice, the EU is collapsing right now, even after throwing a trillion dollars at the "PIG" nations this week. France and Germany are threatening to pull out of the EU and stop using the EURO altogether. Mexico is on the verge of collapsing and many would argue it already did last summer when the US sent in troops to Mexico City.

EU is most definitely fucking up, but free trade and capitalism is not the reason. Many of those countries including Greece still fight the invisible hand, and rely on Government for full support. "The central cause is not the euro, even if it has meant Greece can't depreciate its own currency to ease the economic pain. Budget deficits and debt are the real problems; and these stem from all the welfare benefits (unemployment insurance, old-age assistance, health insurance) provided by modern governments." R. Samuelson - The Quote Can Be Found here

Globalization doesn't work and is a flat failure and until people recognize that fact and demand safeguards and to do away with the free trade agreements, expect nothing to change and for it to get worse. Has it been worth it? Are people forced to crawl through the weeds,in the middle of the night, in pursuit of a decent life the beneficiaries of these policies?

Free Trade does work and "is never more necessary—or vulnerable—than in times of economic distress.." http://reason.com/blog/2010/04/09/reasontv-jagdish-bhagwati-on-f

    This is a brilliant interview.

This Arizona law is a ploy to get the National ID passed. I know it is just another coincidence that the former Arizona Governor now runs Homeland Security, but read the Immigration "reform" Bill to see the law that will go into effect once it is passed. This is for everyone, not just immigrants. Now, if you support this police state bullshit, it doesn't make you compassionate or progressive, instead, it makes you the opposite, since you are,in effect, supporting slave labor and working conditions beyond anything you could imagine. But,instead of talking about the free trade policies, the propaganda masters have you trained like seals, engaging in the debates that have nothing to do with the larger issues.

Not sure if Obama and Holder are working with Arizona. The past few days Holder has been made to look unprepared to respond about the bill.

Despite it being almost the exact same bill as the federal law. I don't understand that if someone supports this bill then they support slave labor. If anything if the AZ bill did the job of eliminating illegals (this is all hypothetical - it won't) then the companies could not hire illegal immigrants for dollars a day. This bill would force companies to hire legal workers, on the books, and thus pay them higher wages. You calling us all trained seals and towing the line of the propaganda masters is a broken record - Dime a Dozen man, dime a dozen.

And if you didn't know that Phoenix has become something of a war zone, over the last couple of years, with a lot of abductions right out of people's homes, then you have no business calling other people out, since you have no idea what you are talking about. It is you who should be questioning the news sources you read if they never bothered to mention the kidnappings and murders that have overrun Phoenix specifically and Arizona in general. But go ahead and recite the talking points, don't bother to actually think about what causes people to flee their countries. And if you do support globalization, then put your money where your mouth is, and give up half your salary, since Americans are so overpaid. But my guess is, it's everyone else who is overpaid, and, not you, which, is as laughable as the Tea Party complaining about "entitlements" as they collect Social Security. The race to the bottom is great isn't it?

Kidnappings have gone up, but crime in general have gone down. I would love to see Social Security privatized. But I am not a Tea Party person. I don't think we are overpaid. I think we spend too much - on a personal level and societal/government level.
