  1. Well, having read many of the reviews and listening to several of the recordings, including the boston and concord streams it seems to have been an incredible tour. So I have to ask, what was the best show of the tour? It appears that Pittsburgh of all places has received a great deal of discussion yet the recording has yet to pop up.

  2. Did you not see the thread titled "Spin"?

Or did you just assume it would be unrelated?

no i didn't happen to see it, but your tone is unnecessary... ;)

  3. I'd echo what bbop said -- he nailed the review (as usual). YLT didn't win over many new fans with their opening set. And as my brain was exploding during their last number (The Story of Yo La Tango), it seemed like the majority of the folks around me just wanted them off the stage. A very solid opening set from YLT. Some of these Wilco fans... :ermm

Wilco/Jeff seemed particularly playful and energetic last night. Can't say if that's right, as I haven't seen the band at any other shows on this tour. The stadium was jammed though, and I wonder if the juice of playing in front of that many folks, in NYC no less, got the guys amped up.

Wilco's set was great. There's not much to say except that the band is just on fire. Incredibly tight. I was looking forward to a nod to Woody of some sort, but as the set went on, and Jeff kept getting new electric guitars, I was beginning to wonder. No mention of YLT either, as the set went on. Seemed odd. Then Feist came out. And the guy from Grizzly Bear. Then California Stars was buried between a couple of other songs in the first encore. No mention of Woody. And would it have killed Feist and Mr. Grizzly Bear to learn the words to the songs they were singing up there? Weak.

Then, of course, during the encore, Jeff welcomes one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. Everyone cranes their necks in excitement, and out stumble Ira, Georgia, and James. And as bbop said, Jeff proclaims that we all got our money's worth before Wilco took the stage. Phew. There we go. Into a blistering version of Spiders. I had to bend down to pick up my mind. Seemed like Nels and Jeff tried to get Ira to let loose, but he didn't really. He was the opposite of Pat. Very subdued, with his back to the crowd. Georgia on maracas in the back, and I didn't even see James (I trust he was on the hammond, as bbop said). Wonderful to see those two great bands on stage at the same time, playing the perfect song together. There was nothing in the song to go crazy over, YLT just sort of blended in, but I do think it was a very good version. Jeff hugged Ira and Georgia as they walked off the stage.

Then a few more tunes in the second encore, and a passing reference to the fact that "this song was written a couple of blocks from here." Hoodoo voodoo to close. I would have expected more Mermaid Ave/Woody references, but alas. Was not to be.

    A great night.

For all the YLT hatas... I highly recommend you check out their Two Hearts Beat As One Album, I played the hell out of it on public radio in NC.

They've got it here for stream....

  4. Here is a link to a few pics I took. I confess I stashed my camera during the downpour and was hoping Paul's made it home intact . As others have said, I felt like the band just always confirms for me why I love em so much - coming back out for that encore - the rain was really cascading onto parts of the stage and they were seriously stomping in puddles and as Lou said, very risky. They are good to their fans as they can be, every time. All 5 of us who went together just kept saying how completely on they were. JT was smiling a lot. Many great memories and great to see all the fans who travel to see Wilco, we have been lucky to meet so many great people along the way.

    great pix!

  5. So why was the show called off? Was the band getting wet too? I figured they would be under cover.

If it was called off just becasue the crowd was getting wet, that's a crime! I remember being at a Dead show in 1990 where it started raining very hard during the first set, but no biggie because the band was playing and we were all rocking out. It was a whole different story when the set ended and they took a break and we had to stand there for 40 minutes in the pouring rain. That wasn't so great, but once you were completely soaked to the bone and embraced the rain, it wasn't so bad. One of the greatest shows I ever seen too!

    7/12/90 RFK???

This was a monster, sustained winds, torrential downpour on baseball diamond to, mind you. A whole different enchilada, when you consider the painstaking care taken of a baseball field versus the old football field. The canopy coverage was minimal at best for the band, check some of the photos b/w impossible germany and itmwly. In twenty yrs of concert going this one is up there for me as an epic!

All i can say is holy shit Lowell!

What a wonderful show, even though it was cut short. I was really impressed with the new songs and really enjoyed the new arrangement(?) of Spiders (Kidsmoke) the crowd participation throughout the show was incredible. I ventured upfront for the start of Connor and managed to stay until the end of Deeper Down when my wife was tired of being in the confined area and ready for some space. Kudos to the kind and considerate folks around us who had a blanket down a few feet in front of a taper (I only saw one stand), who shared space and other necessities;-).

I've got a few pics posted of the venue on my Facebook Profile Andy Jackins.

I have to say the baseball park setup is a bit strange. Personally, I felt the sound was pretty good from up front as well as back center, right beside the entrance to the dugout and third base. Big thanks to Kristofer on the 411 on Lowell, we hit up Cobblestones b4 the show and ran to the beergarden (VIP) area to get out of the rain. To those sitting on the fence (if any) don't hesitate get a ticket and go!!

  7. come one people,

"Take a vacation, fall out for a while,

Summer's comin' in, and it's goin' outa style

Well, lie down smokin', honey; have yourself a ball,

Cause your mother's down in Memphis, won't be back 'till the fall."

    or better yet...

"The bus came by and I got on

    That's when it all began

    There was cowboy Neal

    At the wheel

Of a bus to never-ever land"

it's funny to hear people bitch about 2.5 hr drives to go see their favorite band. Especially, anyone from Chicago after seeing the Riviera Residency to start the year off and the countless opportunities to see Jeff playing solo. Get off your ass and go on tour!
