I played cricket against Greg (old yellow Wiggle) just after he left the group. Really nice bloke. What's more, he had to adjust some of his batting gear (we wear padding on the thigh under the pants). He apologised and dropped his trousers to fix his gear up revealling Wiggle yellow underwear. Just saying.

Founding drummer of Crowded House, Paul Hester (RIP), was very involved in getting them started, and appeared on the TV show from time t time.

Finally - going by Jeff's version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on Someone Elses Song is enough for me to petition a kids album from Tweedy et al!

Apparently, before his death last year, Jay Bennett, former Wilco sideman, had put the finishing touches on another solo album. On July 10, that album, Kicking at the Perfumed Air, will be released as a free download by the Jay Bennett Foundation, which supports music and education. The foundation won't ask for any money for the album, but they are asking for donations if you'd like. Eventually, the album will also be released physically, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the foundation as well.

Music, writing, illustrating, photography, for my own benefit really, I am pretty ordinary.

I collect guitars, mainly cheap, crappy ones, by makers like Rokaxe. I think there are 8 presently. My last three were by Ibanez, Gretsch & Martin, so at least something is improving, though not my abilities. I want an American Tele next, blonde with maple fretboard...

I used to collect football cards and autographs, not so much anymore. Did get Neil & Tim Finn to sign my Split Enz programme.

I have also collected a resume of really bad jobs. I quit the most recent one today after it was reduced to 40hrs/annum.

After watching Sunken Treasure again today I'm reminded of Jeff's passive aggressive "What you want Sir, isn't what you want, anymore". Should I admit that I only worked out the real lyrics at the Sydney gigs this month? After listening and singing it for 3 years?

Only saw the two Sydney shows, but they were the greatest two nights of my life. The band and crew were in fine form, Liam Finn was in fine form, the venues seemed great, and the audiences were generally great. Can't say Pat's shaker catching was always so ace, I thought there was at least one drop at the Factory!

Thanks too to exile for the Sydney recordings, great quality, and Wise Enough for descriptions. Sorry I didn't get to meet any of you, next time.

Becuase us crazies would want to hear it. Any wilco is good Wilco. Who knows there could be some pretty great material that didn't fit with the feel of W(TA) But I haven't heard any rumours of this kind before. Care to share your source?

yes, there is that reason. A kiwi lass who said Liam Finn was her nephew, and that Jeff had spent time in NZ polishing things off at Roundhouse and Liam's new studio recently. I believe she went on to ask if Jeff was on steroids and asked if she could get on stage to show them rock. She seemed like a lovely lady, and I have no reason to doubt her. Just find it strange, after BT being a double particularly, that they would record 2 albums worth of stuff and not release half of it for 2 1/2 years... and not play any of it live.

I admit, I have tried to goole stalk the Finn family to try to verify identity, no luck :-/

I think 'countrymen' is too intellectual for most people down here, unless it involves someone walking around draped in the Australian flag holding a stubby.

'Fucking wanker' on the other hand sounds far more Australian, but preferably directed only at people who deserve it... Like politicians.

Did the way WTA was recorded have anything to do with the unpopular result? Having Nels and Mike overdub after the event, not involved in the primary recording, not having input into the evolving beast? Am I wrong? Previous albums have been pretty autocratic, but the current line up seems more collaborative? Perhaps, maybe?

Anyway, I was told that there is a new album recently polished off in NZ, from material recorded at 7 worlds. Not convinced though. Not convinced it would be a good idea either. Why would you release 2 year old material,

Finn Bros. - Won't Give In (& a few others on the Everyone is Here album)

In terms of song writers, I love reading through the writing of 18th century hymnwriter Charles Wesley. He was a deeply tormented man, writing a lot about death and dying. Early English blues?

Stuff.co.uk realise they made a mistake not covering Wilco's Auckland gig. Pretty ordinary really, especially with the weak-as-piss excuses at the bottom of the article. So are some of the comments at the bottom.

Basically:

We should have had someone reviewing the bound-to-be-awesome show, plain and simple. A reviewer went to John Mayer. We had someone at Vampire Weekend. And a workmate thankfully covered Tears for Fears and Spandau Ballet for me. Whew.

 

Heck, we even had a team of journalists, photographers and a video producer trailing Justin Bieber all day on Thursday. But we didn't have anyone at Wilco. And for that, I'm sorry.

 

I know it pissed at least one Stuff reader off, because Jack posted this on my John Mayer review: "Well done on covering this mildly talented Women's Weekly shrub instead of Wilco at the Civic, stay classy Stuff readers."

I though some of the Australian press were a bit slow off the mark, describing YHF as post-9/11? Research folks, research.

The guard on the 'Cline' side was so funny. He looked bored before Liam started. He had his head resting on his fist, leaning on the bins most of the night. Funny stuff. Contrast that to Saturday night, during Spiders, one of the Theatre attendants was 'rocking' while stopping everyone on the Mezz from standing up.

Another 6 hour drive, but home. Pity I can't make the 6 hour drive to Melbourne too. The last two nights were certainly something else.

Was on the rail in front of Nels, next to the woman with the freaky voice. There is nothing elegant about Nels, but my god he is brilliant.

THe band did seem very relaxed last night. A lot of by-play between Nels, Mike and Glenn. Mike dropped the stuffed toy he uses to create some noise on the keyboard, Nels picked it up, finished the song with it and threw it back at Mike, smacking him in the head. Mike was throwing shakers at Glenn during ITMWLY.

I enjoyed Liam Finn infinately more last night. He seemed a lot more comfortable, despite the technical problems. Probably the proximity of the audience.

I agree with you about the all of sound. Found the same thing last night, couldn't understand a word of I'm a Wheel, same tonight. My audiologist wife says that it is temporary hearing thresholds mean that we lose some frequencies in our hearing, therefore losing the vocals. Or something like that... I think everyone just got a little excited!
