  1. They're probably a technically better live band now, but I would've loved to have seen them around this time.

completely agree. i was 9 yrs old when they were on this tour but i would kill to have seen it. they were so much punkier back then. dont get me wrong... im not the type to argue that one era was better than the other.. i enjoy it all.. but i would have loved to see this incarnation live. and jay.. :(

  2. apparently that idea is going around... theres a band down here in gainesville that has gotten pretty big as "the shitty beatles" and for halloween theyre trying out "shitty wilco". theyre doing all of YHF and then a shitty beatles set. it's gonna be huge, man.

  3. the new rolling stone (with the beatles on the cover... im interested to see how much new info/insight they will add on the break-up of the band...) apparently includes an article about jeff. the web preview of the features section reads as follows:

    "Jeff Tweedy Lets Go:

Wilco's frontman used to be the most tortured guy in rock & roll. Then he learned the hardest thing of all: keeping it simple.

    By Will Dana"

i think the issue is on newstands friday

  4. my friend who lives in the chicago area says he just heard about a jay bennett tribute show that's supposed to take place labor day weekend but he didnt get much of the details. i live in florida so it's not like i can go... im just curious to know if you chicagoans have heard anything about it and if not if somebody would look into it...?

  5. it all makes so much sense now. let me preface this with the fact that i am completely in love with this record, find more and more to love everytime i listen to it, and change my favorite song off of it every 5 minutes because i love so many of them. with that said, THIS POST EXPLAINS SO MUCH. the first time i listened to it i remember telling my sister "the record sounds so compressed... the band sounds separate from jeff and theres not as much distinction between all the little frills that they add to the songs... but maybe it's just because it's a stream". then when i bought the record i have to admit i was slightly disappointed to find that this was not the case. im now really regretting the fact that i didnt get the CD/vinyl pack because this seems like an ideal one to get on vinyl if this "problem" is altered.

it's clear they meant to do it and the more i listen the more i notice some places where it does sound great that way, but overall this is one of my few and far between complaints of the record. im pretty much in love with it.

  6. -- Wilco has the best sales week of its career wtih "Wilco (The Album)." The set opens with a career-high 99,000 copies sold. The band's 2007 album, "Sky Blue Sky," opened with 87,000 copies sold. Wilco began streaming its latest on its website more than a month ago -- a typical practice for the band -- and appeared on "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" in advance of the album's release. This mark's Wilco's third top 10 album on the U.S. pop chart.

  7. I remember forcing my roommate to listen to "She's a Jar" about 1000 times...

haha... man i think weve ALLLL been there. "wait. wait.. listen to the end. listen to the end. awww man... hits you out of nowhere right?"

  8. mad vibes to you. thankfully we have this band that really lifts us up when we most need them (wilco the song is all about that isnt it?). the themes in jeff's lyrics are so universal... you dont need to be in a 17 year marriage to understand what hes saying. i hope things work out for you in whatever capacity that is.

  9. just read this and didnt know if it should get it's own thread since not everyone has been checking into here. so sad.. my sister and i were just saying yesterday that we thought this might have been the cause because of jay's struggles with the hip pain. adding to the sadness is that jay was on the path to surgery and recovery.

RIP jay... miss you everytime i listen to being there, summerteeth, and YHF.

  10. if they went with just the "catchy" song i'd bet they'd go with you never know... but i'd hope for sonny feeling. it's just as catchy as you never know... but awesome. im betting for wilco (the song) b/c.. well.. it's their theme song... OR you never know b/c it's their single.

  11. I stopped reading this magazine when Klosterman left and even then it was getting pretty awful. Have I missed anything recently?

im pretty much in the same boat so i hadnt read it in a while, but i picked up the dead weather cover story on the current issue and it damn near made me cry. great fuckin article.

  12. YES! i knew it! i was hoping for this when i saw the tour dates in California around the date of the album release. im a HUGE wilco AND conan fan (see screenname)... in fact i found out about wilco after seeing them on conan. i remember he introduced them as "for my money, the band that's making the best music out there right now". it all comes together.

if it were up to me they'd do BBN... but im pretty sure itll be wilco (the song).

more proof that conan loves wilco: http://www.geocities.com/latenitegoddess2/conanlizapremier.jpg

  13. I understand what you're saying, but I am really hoping that they are able to deal with their grief in whatever ways works for each/all of them, be it publicly or privately.

youre right... i guess it's a bit of a selfish wish for me because I would personally feel more comforted... but it's not being very considerate to their feelings. They will need WAY more time to process this.
