  1. I downloaded the etix app, got past the word captcha but then received an error message that it couldn't process my order because there was no print a home option. Thanks, Etix.

I am also desperately trying to be someone's plus-1 for this show. Please let me know if you have one.

  2. I sat with my two daughters in row AA. About my tenth show and their 5th/2nd respectively. Not sure what was happening behind us in terms of interest/energy but I don't think we sat down once, and we were moving a lot even though we all lack rhythm. The people all around us were wonderful - a nice sense of community. We were in front of John and Pat. Pat impressed us especially -- he does so many subtle things that fill out and improve the songs. Even in songs where Nels has the sexy long solos, Pat's rhythm guitar holds it together. I'm with Smells Like Flowers. I like the new stuff but have so many pet songs that I hope to hear from the earlier albums that you can never hear them all. That's ok. Box Full of Letters, Via Chicago and Outtamind... scratched that itch for us. I also wouldn't mind if they dropped a couple of the songs from the every-night-set this tour: Impossible Germany (I'm pretty sure I caught some glances between the guys during the solo, like -- here we go again), BBN, and Standing O (Jeff may be right that this becomes a fixture but I'm skeptical. I guess I wouldn't have thought I'm a Wheel would have such strong legs in concert either, so I'll stay open-minded on Standing O.) Most of the new songs sounded really great.

Nick Lowe was a complete revelation. Played beautifully, charmed the crowd and seemed to really enjoy the love he got from the crowd.

  3. I would rather not put these up on Craigslist, but if I don't have any offers by the weekend, I think that's where they're headed.

Do you still have these? I will be there in row AAA but my buddy, who lives in Madison, is looking for two.

  4. My wife and I loved the show, too. We felt kind of goofy going through the meet/greet line but Jeff was a great sport. The set brimmed with great selections. It was a real treat. My favorite banter of the night was when he pointed out that he and Susan celebrated their anniversary, that he'd put a bunch of love songs into the set and then basically invited a little peer pressure for romance by noting -- "the kids are at camp...I'm leaving on tour in a couple of days..." before giving in with a "not a chance." It was pretty cute.

Here's a picture of the songs Jeff seemed to use as a very tentative roadmap. The selection process seemed pretty freewheeling, which made it all the more impressive and fun.

  5. Top Ten Requests for 2009-04-16 Bloomington, IN - IU Auditorium as of 1:18 p.m. on 4/15

    Hummingbird

    Hoodoo Voodoo

    On and On and On

    Ashes Of American Flags

    Jesus, Etc.

    Kingpin

    Misunderstood

At Least That's What You Said

    California Stars

    Hotel Arizona

Ditty - Are these your top 10 requests or do you somehow know the top requests from the official website? I confess that I made a couple of requests for songs that'll have some time/place sentimental meaning for me but have almost zero chance of being played.

  6. Two of my friends are also combining the campus tour with a soon-to-be-in-college kid and this Wilco show Thursday night. The IU counselors are busy!!!

And this place called FARM sounds wonderful. http://www.farm-bloomington.com/farmhome.html

Agreed. My wife and her friend who will be with us are both IU grads ('90). We haven't been back for a while. So the decision for us for dinner will be memory lane (mother bear's on third st) vs. great sounding place that wasn't around when they were in school. There's a certain symmetry to this trip for us -- my wife skipped her first college class to buy tickets for an REM show in the same auditorium in 1986. (Still, damn - we're old.)

  7. I'll be in Bloomington with my wife, daughter (high school junior combining show with college visit) and another friend. Orch C, Row 4. Looking forward to it. Maybe FARM (on Kirkwood) for dinner/drink beforehand.
