  1. first time poster. This was my third opportunity to see the band live. There is nothing else quite like seeing a show at red rocks, except parking. missed most of Okkervil River set. The scene was great. lightning in the eastern sky, a nearly full moon, perfect temperature. 35 rows back which was too far away for my old eyes.

Before the show i was a bit anxious as to how the band energy would be with all that is going on, especially surrounding the passing of Jay Bennett, new album, new songs to sell, etc. We all picked Wilco (the song) as the opener and this will probably be a staple opener for them, which in some ways is too bad. Sunken Treasure at the Denver fillmore for the show i went to last year was unbelievable. The sound volume seemed a little weak for the first two or three songs and there were some calls to turn it up from the crowd. It was a bit hard to decipher the response from the crowd on the new songs. It will be interesting to see if Bull Black Nova ends up being a concert favorite. It is potentially a great live song, but last night it wasn't loud enough. I thought the concert got rolling with A Shot in the Arm and from there it took off. Highlights for me were Can't Stand It, Shouldn't Be Ashamed, (thanks Ditto) Pat and Nels really going after it on HooDoo VooDoo, Pat's stage presence in particular, Jeff's stellar singing and guitar work, Nels was indeed "epic" on Ashes. Lowlights were Everlasting Everything (this album's What Light) We'll see how long it takes for this song to be removed from the set list. California Stars with Okkervill was pretty punchless. Does anyone else think that the more uptempo version of Stars that the band did on Letterman several years ago was the best? I would have liked to have heard Jeff share a bit more and was sad that Jay Bennett wasn't acknowledged because his impact on the band and the music was far reaching.

Other than the fact that I would have loved to have had Red Eyed and Blue/I Got you on the set list it was a great show that went way too fast.

I hope the album does well. I can't say that have fallen in love with it, but will keep listening. Thanks for the chance to post!
