  1. Solid Solid attendance estimates from the North Adams Transcript:

"While official totals for the weekend were not available, estimates put the number of fans attending over the three-day event at 7,500 to 8,000.

"The numbers are notably up this year," Thompson said. "We had over 7,000 people including vendors, volunteers and security on the field Saturday night [when Neko Case and Wilco played] and we had no capacity issues. There was still room to move and it still felt civilized.""

Saturday did not feel overcrowded to me. Crowded, yes, but not oversold. There was more than enough roomy breathing space during Wilco's set if one only looked around. I will say, however, that food lines were ridiculously long.

  2. I was next to the foxygen guy getting dragged out through the museum lobby by the frontman and security....he was wasted..ahh, rock and roll. So i tend to believe Tweedy.

Apparently the guy dragged out was the tambourine player but he is not an actual member of the band. The band was not 'kicked out' it seems and so Tweedy was merely joking.

    Foxygen tweeted this last night:

"@johndamnseven this is wrong. you should take this off the net. there was no brawl. one member went to the drunk tank. Wilco & foxy are cool"

  3. Foxygen would be my third pick for fav set, and the lead singer certainly gets the Jim Morrison award! Fantastic performance if very unsustainable in the long run (bummer about their hassles afterwards. Heard one of 'em ended up wasted and tried to punch a state cop. Ouch!)

Blogger from Times Union had a good write up about Foxygen's set & after troubles

  4. MMW & guests crushed the final set today! Best performance I saw all weekend, hands down

One of the best sets I've seen from MMW in a while, these guys are masters of live improv, all in just 1h15m. Smallest crowd all weekend at the main stage but we cheered so much we got MMW & Nels to return for an unexpected encore (the PA music had already been turned on)

David Hildago, Marc Ribot, and especially Nels all shined tremendously as guests. Tweedy's appearance was sweet, plus we got an 'encore' performance of a train running by the stage during the show

Amazing ending to a terrific weekend at Solid Sound, bookended by my fav sets (White Denim being the other)

Cannot wait to get an AUD for the MMW set, saw one taper in attendance

  5. From twitter:Around 830pm saw slew of police outside fest talking to Foxygen lead singer, then someone else left in cop car @robertloerzel: @AndyHannon

Anyone else able to confirm what happened:So #foxygen apparently got loaded & brawled saw the tambourine dude escorted out of #solidsound2013 totally wasted couldn't even walk

  6. Awesome night of Wilco, much better overall than last night. Agreed, the stage & light design were super classy. How about those trains going by during the show, incredible!

Loved Foxygen's nutzy set. Were they really booted or was Tweedy joking? That security dude that pulled Foxygen's lead singer off the vertical steal beam supporting the stage rigging was a major ass by shoving the singer to the ground, wtf!?!

  7. Foxygen was indeed wild! Very curious if they did get kicked outta Solid Sound as Tweedy mentioned (in jest...?)

Foxygen's lead singer climbed up one of the steel beams on stage right, whereupon this security rushed up and pulled him down and proceeded to shove him down onto the stage

While the lead singer may have been a little reckless, there was no call for the security dude to be such an asshole.

So was Tweedy joking or was Foxygen really asked to leave the festi?

(Loved Foxygen's set btw. Crazy fun)

  8. Wilco promised an all request show & delivered on it. While I'm sure plenty of rare wilco tunes were requested, the band never promised to focus solely on their own catalog

I knew last night some would not be pleased with the show. Even I at times was squirmy about the wacky format as it was uneven at times. Then I shook off the feeling and waited for the next peak moment.

    More to come today!

  9. Marquee Moon was my musical highlight of the night. Several others were impressively played, but this one just had some extra creative juice, esp the latter instrumental segment

Can't believe they played Psychotic Reaction by the Count Five. And back to back Waterloo tunes. And Blue Oyster Cult. And....!

    Thank you Wilco ;0>

  10. Gorgeous day at Solid Sound! White Denim was red hot, the Relatives were a major psychedelic soul surprise, and Wilco's jukebox show was a lot of fun if lacking in cohesiveness (but a serious treat I know)

My one complaint is that the emcee, John Hodgman, was a drag. All his randomized tunes were the weakest of the night (love the Dead but Ripple was barely acceptable), and the stump the audience segment kinda blew (except seeing Wilco pull off Daft Punk's Get Lucky was a completely whacko highlight, loved it)

Otherwise I was floored at the range of covers played; the so called rehearsed ones mostly sounded great. I'm not a diehard Wilco fan but overall I was super impressed with Solid Sound and Wilco's all request show. Drop the emcee shtick and I wouldn't mind another all request show at the next Solid Sound (fingers crossed for another, I'm hooked)

  11. It was great and they clearly had fun... Jeff said a few times how much fun they had and how it was the best night ever. Dead Flowers was originally written by Townes Van Zant btw

Nope. That's Mick & Keef from Sticky Fingers. Van Zandt covered it

  12. Thanks, I thought the bar was stocked. Wont be leaving Amherst MA till just before 4. Hope the parking spots I scoped out online are available!

Enjoyed WAMC's live broadcast this morn. Ordered the Blisters new album afterwards

  13. If the Bruins do win tonight, I will need to find a bar close to Mass Moca to watch the game at. I've seen Wilco 20+ times, as much as I'd hate it, I would skip the show Sat night to watch the B's win the cup.

Any ideas for bar close to Moca to watch a game at?

Public Eat+Drink is within sight of MassMOCA on the other side of Rt 2. Great spot, tasty range of beers

Yelp identifies restautants/bars with TVs. Any place in town with a TV will have the game on

  14. Any good parking tips? We live in Amherst MA and so I'll be driving daily to North Adams. I realize there are official parking lots 2+ miles away (w/ shuttle) but was wondering if anyone tried parking on their own around North Adams during the last Solid Sound
