  1. Does anybody need a free ticket for tonight? Circumstances have prevented my companion from joining me tonight, so I have an extra--and since the show is for charity, I figured I'd just give it away. Perhaps whoever wants it can make a donation tonight (assuming they will be taking donations there) in return for the ticket. Anyhow, let me know, but either way I'm very excited!

  2. I always liked Via Chicago, but never understood the dissonant crashing, until I read somewhere that they were trying to capture the feeling of walking through Chicago and being caught in the thunderous roar of the El train. That little detail elevated the song in my mind from a great song to a brilliant and successful conceptual idea. If you've ever been under the el as it passed above, you understand how abrubtly it can disrupt your thoughts. They capture both the sound and feeling of the el so well. I love how Tweedy keeps singing as the roar occurs above him. Being a Chicagoan whose thoughts have often been interrupted by the sound of the el above, I cannot help but applaud the conceptual idea as well as the excellent execution.

  3. Hi everybody,

I'm new here...great community. This is definitely an interesting debate. The last three Wilco shows I was at (UICX2 & Madison) I was somewhat taken aback by the sitting. Everybody around me was sitting; therefore I sat. As much as i wanted to stand (I'm a 'sway-er') I was not ready to impose myself upon those around me. That being said, I was slightly put off, staring longingly at those on the floor who were standing. For next time, I might consider walking around asking people if they wanted to trade: perhaps a sitter recieved floor seats, and vice versa.

There's really no answer. The only thing I can say is to be respectful. Be respectful, and things will usually turn out OK. If everybody else is sitting, perhaps turn around and say "Mind if I get up for this one, it's kinda upbeat?" I know...not very 'rock n roll.' But, much like society, there are no objective rules. The only way to maintain peace is to follow your intuition, be open and honest, follow your belief if it's that important to you, but also sometimes acknowledge that you just have to suck it up if it's something as inconsenquential as positioning at a concert.
