  1. About this time last year I was the elated winner of the Wilco Haiku contest. The band very generously awarded me a 2009 faded-series Gibson SG, signed by everyone in the band, and I was gobsmacked. I had been having trouble coming up with the money for a new guitar, which I badly needed, so winning the contest was incredibly lucky for me.

After having played the guitar for a few months early last year, I came to the conclusion that it wasn't really what I was looking for. I gave myself a "beggars can't be choosers" speech for a while and stuck with it. Though I am a Wilco fan and genuinely excited by owning this cool piece of memorabilia, I am also on the picky side when it comes to instruments, and this one just wasn't cutting it for me.

I'm still not quite financially liquid enough that I can simply hang this guitar on the wall and go buy another; I need to sell it to meet my personal rock'n'roll needs. But before I go put it up on eBay, I figured folks in this community should at least be made aware that it's available in case someone wanted a chance at owning it (or making somebody else very happy this Christmas). It's been set-up professionally by Gryphon in Palo Alto, CA, and the consensus over there is that it's worth $500, autographs or not, and probably more to a Wilco fan. I'd be very happy to sell it to someone here for $500, rather than letting it get bid up out on eBay.

It's still in excellent condition, and though it's been played it has also been very well cared for. Someone is going to love this guitar -- hopefully it's one of you guys. First-come, first-served.

If you are seriously interested send me a private message and we can work out the details.

  2. Added you to the station.

Almost didn't because you haven't had many posts around here (and I don't want to use this thread as a place for just anybody to come in and post about their band -- ironic, huh?). But it is a good tune, so I added it. Nice work.

Thanks. It's true, I tend to be more of a reader than a poster, but I've been kicking around the halls for a while. (Had to recreate my profile kinda recently, so some of my older posts are no longer noted).

Glad you liked the tune, too.

  3. MA2 wasn't as solid as the first (mostly because Bragg's material was weak), I don't know how good the stuff that wasn't good enough to make that record would be...

Man oh man, I have to respectfully disagree. Opinion only of course, but mine is that MA2 is the superior album. Airline to Heaven, Feed a Man, Remember the Mountain Bed... those are some of my favorite Wilco songs. And I love My Flying Saucer, too.

I'm sure that debate has probably been done to death here, so whatever. Just had to stand up in support of a record I love. : )

Can anyone summarize what the beef was between Tweedy and Bragg, and why the parting was "acrimonious"?

  4. ...if you are REALLY lucky Via Chicago will make an apparance.

Really? They've played it every time I've seen them, I'm pretty sure. (I've only seen them 5 times, but still...)

Lists like this are tough. My first stab:

    1. She's a Jar

    2. The Lonely One

    3. Theologians

    4. Jesus, Etc.

  5. Congrats on the win.

Interesting that you will be using the guitar with all of the signatures on it. I would think that you would want to put that up on the wall "ala hard rock".

    Thanks!

And yeah, I know what you mean. I guess I'll just see how I feel after I get it. I suspect my desire for a new instrument will outweigh my desire for memorabilia, though it may be too cool a thing not to display it somewhere in between gigs.

I'll report back, after I have a chance to play it!

  6. Hi folks. I'm stoked beyond belief: I'm the guy who won the guitar.

The crazy thing is that I entered the contest specifically *because* I really need a new guitar. I'm in a band, we've been writing some more "rock" sounding stuff, and the hollow-body I've been playing for years just doesn't have the crunch I want. I expect that problem has just been solved, courtesy of one of my all time favorite bands.

I joined this forum a bunch of years ago but forgot my login, so I just rejoined today. It's fair to say my feelings for Wilco have deepened significantly in the last day. : )

Congrats to the other winners. There are some good ones up there.
