Jeff Tweedy, Glenn Kotche, Dan Auerbach, and Jason Isbell

I also have a feeling this will lead to an Elvis Costello obsession.
Funny you say that, at both Toronto shows recently he did a awesome cover of Elvis Costello's Alison. I haven't listen to him much to give any album recommendations but I would definitely check out that cover.

My vinyl came in today as well. The sound quality and perfection of One Sunday Morning is pure heaven, and it's definetly a longer version.

Sounds so awesome, I know what station I'm listening to this weekend!

Jeff Tweedy writes the most amazing lyrics but some that always stand out:
"If this were still new to me I won't understand, Impossible Germany unlikely Japan."
"You were right about the starts, each one is a setting sun"
"I feel some connection between you and me. Well I guess that's some direction maybe you can't see."
"You keep dealing with all of these feelings like they got you believing they have no meaning, but they do."
-
One Sunday Morning hands down, Art of Almost and Whole love a close second.

I'm thinking, as much as I love this song, I don't think hearing it played in a room full of hipsters, some of whom will feel the need to go "WHOOOOOO" in the middle of it, is something that I want any part of.
This is one that is probably best enjoyed alone, in the privacy of one's home, with the miracle of headphones.
Saw it live in Toronto as the opener, it's as outstanding live as it is studio. The hipster seems to respect it and most stayed quite through it. Although being the first song meant all those annoying late unprepared people rushing to there seats as if they had no idea they were coming on on Call me crazy but when I pay money for awesome seats to see my favorite band play, I'm making sure I'm in my seats in a timely fashion and not being a douche and cutting in front of people who are actually in their seats because they were smart enough to know that they should just chill in their seats for that very short break between Nick Lowe and Wilco.

Jesus, Etc sung almost entirely by the audience until about 3/4 of the way through was pretty awesome I must say. Jeff said they played it last night and he didn't want to sing it but he did, and that he didn't want to sing it tonight but the audience could. It was awesome.
I was also thinking how much i wouldn't want to have to see them in a bigger venue because of that.
I was there both nights so it was great to have both verisons of Jesus etc. I'm usually not a sing a long person at all, but I have to say hearing everyone singing along in unison was pretty awesome. It really gives you a great feeling, and we did pretty well with keeping up and not petering out to much.
The venue was so perfect for Wilco. The actual seats were kind of strange the way they were either 90 degree angle or loungey, but Massey Hall is great. I always get a kick out of the weird "should we sit or stand?" dynamic, but after the second song everyone made the wise decision to stand.
Overall for my first wilco weekend experience I couldn't be more satisifed. Those were hands down the best concerts I have ever seen, although I slightly preferred Friday's concert over Saturday's, I am still in amazement.

Seriously over zealous security dude actually threw out a guy for taking pictures. At one point he told people that it was ok to take pics with phones but not with cameras. Then he started going after everyone, phone or camera. Kind of distracting having him chasing down every person sneaking a photo.
Good show. Looking forward to tomorrow!
While I agree that the security was a little over zealous about camera use, that guy got warned at least 5 times about taking pictures with his camera, he totally deserved getting thrown out. He even refused to get up for the longest time, plus it was pretty distracting when im trying to watch Nels totally kill it for Impossible Germany.. that's just disrespectful.

She doesn't seem to be offended at all that Jeff Tweedy...member of an "alt-rock" group stole her boyfriends soul over brunch. If I was Jane Smiley, and whats to say I'm not, I would be pissed.
Hell If I was him I would honored to have Tweedy write such a brilliant song about my life, and if I was her I would be pretty jazzed to talk with Tweedy in person let alone have him write a 12 minute song about my boyfriend.

This is what I believe the lyrics are, I'm pretty sure they are like 98% right:
One Sunday Morning (Song for Jane Smiley's Boyfriend):
This is how I tell it
Oh but it's long
One Sunday morning,
Oh one son is gone
I can see where it's dawning [This is the only line I'm unsure of]
Over the sea
My father said what I had become,
No one should be
Outside I look lived in
Like the bones in a shrine
How am I forgiven?
Oh I'll give it time
This I learned without warning
Holding my brow
In time you thought I would kill him
Oh but I didn't know how
I said it's your god I don't believe in
No your bible can't be true
knocked down by the long lie
He cried I fear what waits for you
I can hear those bells
Spoken and gone
I feel relief, I feel well
Now he knows he was wrong
Ring 'em cold for my father
Frozen underground
Jesus I wouldn't bother
He belongs to me now
Something sad keeps moving
So I wander around
I fell in love with the burden
Holding me down
Bless my mind I miss
Being told how to live
What I've learned without knowing
How much more I owe that I can give
This is how I tell it
Oh but it's long
One Sunday morning
One son is gone

You mean it wasn't? Aw, man...I thought the cartoon face they drew on his gut would at least qualify.
I found that scene very classy, dignified, and artsy.

New record? Yeah...I'm looking forward to it. I don't think SBS or W(TA) are the letdowns that many here make them out to be, but that's what they think, and no one's right. The first 8 songs of SBS tie together quite nicely to me.
After hearing Jeff talk about, I'm even more pumped for it. It sounds like it may be the two best things about Wilco. I, too, look forward to the conversations when (if?) it's streamed. Heck, I'm just glad I can talk to other Wilco fans. I've tried, but haven't been able to convert any of my "real life" friends...
I really liked Sky Blue Sky, I never understood why people thought it was a such a let down. That album has some really solid songs, Impossible Germany is one of my top 5 favorite wilco songs. As for the converting friends thing I really completely understand, I only know 2 other Wilco fans in real life, one of those being a family member.

I found the list to be pretty accurate, although I would definitely put She's a Jar and Impossible Germany in the top 10.

The full album is currently streaming on NPR: http://www.npr.org/2011/04/25/135550848/first-listen-fleet-foxes-helplessness-blues
It's safe to say I'm in love with Helplessness Blues. Completely surpassed all of my expectations for this album. Phenomenal.

always kills me, especially the part about "I only want what's best for you/And I know that might not include me"
Love that song, truly heart breaking.
Black Blue; If it's the beaches - The Avett Brothers
Two Daughter and a Beautiful Wife- Drive By Truckers
90 Mile Water Wall - The National

I think it's good exposure for bands to allow their songs to be used in commercials. Honestly I would rather sit through commercials playing Dawes and The Black Keys than have to sit through a commercial playing awful music like Justin beiber and Kesha. Good for them for getting their music out there. It doesn't diminish the song's quality because it was used in a car commercial. To not listen to a band because of commercial use is stupid and pretentious.

Maddox (Best Page in the Universe) on Dave Matthews
Quote
It's the whitest band ever, which is saying something considering 3 of the members are black, and Dave Matthews is literally an African American (born in South Africa). His music can be heard in Whole Foods stores, Live Earth concerts, or blasting from the speakers of open-topped Jeeps parked on curbs everywhere. The typical fan is either some dude wearing khaki cargo shorts replete with dangling rock climbing hooks, even though he doesn't hike because he can't afford to drive his gas-guzzling Jeep, or some chick with huge boobs, buck teeth, and an ankle-length floral skirt that she twirls around like an idiot because she thinks her awesome boobs give her enough social capital to make up for the buck teeth and hairy toes (they don't):
That sounds about right. I can't think of a single band I hate more than Dave Matthews Band. I hate their music, their fans, and everything they stand for.

Midlake for me has always been one of those bands that I really should be into but I'm not. I've dabbled in their songs on several occasions and I would said comparatively Fleet Foxes are stronger lyrically and harmony wise, and even in originality for only having one album officially out and a second weeks away.
I disagree I think they will get better with age and I think that is apparent with the release of Helplessness Blues, which is so far producing some very solid tracks.
