  1. If you like "When The Going Gets Dark" you should really check out "Featuring Birds" and "The Sword of God". Quasi are one of my favorite bands. Coomes is so clever with his pessimism. Gotta love it.

Also, this is one of the greatest album covers of all time.

  2. I was backstage and got to see Kevin Barnes during his costume changes and it was so cute how he would run off, kiss his wife and girl, change in a few seconds into his next wild outfit, and come back to say hi to his daughter again. I can only imagine what her memories of daddy will be someday.

I was just clicking around after reading about the possibility of a Schuba's Spoon secret show and saw this.

Devendra Banhart with Matteah Baim-Death's Groove (whatever that means) at the Portage Theater in Chicago on Sept 18. I have my tickets and you should get yours before the unwashed masses get in!

Anyone else wanna buy a ton and take control of selling tickets for the event at inflated prices?

I'm kidding, of course, that shit is illegal. :shifty

  4. Check out the 2:01 mark for a move I call "The Bennett Wizard" as Jay, sorcerer or sounds, conjures up a wild noise that kicks the song up a notch (although not quite up into "Easy Rocker" levels).

    :thumbup

::sigh::Wilco so badly needs a man too rockin' to ash his own cigarettes again...

  5. Yours to Keep is the best strokes release since Is This It? Casablancas voice wore thin for me over time and FIOE is just sad (for the most part). I wish he would come to Chicago solo (and not opening for some other garbage), I always liked watching him live with The Strokes (the other Strokes, on the other hand, are pretty bland live). Anyways, I recommend this album most highly.

  6. I'm really looking forward to this. Has anyone seen him solo before? Any good? I saw him with the band at The Metro in the fall and it was mind blowing. Post-War was one of my favorite 2006 albums too. It'll be interesting to see how some of his songs translate to this sort of concert.

I've never been to Park West either. Whats parking like around there?

  7. Amazing! Thanks so much for sharing those. Orphans is maybe the most important release of the year. It's certainly the most enjoyable.

OK. I'm not taking a shot at anyone but this is something that has always confused me. What makes a release important? I've never been able to understand that choice of words to describe a music release but its something that gets used all the time. Could someone enlighten me?

  8. This is my 100th post so I am now beginning to formulate an opinion. But, as far as Orphans goes, I know its more of a collection but I almost wish it was sequenced to mix things up a bit more. However, I guess the disc titles of brawlers, bawlers, and bastards are just too good to NOT use. Anyways, I think there are some GREAT ones on here and some not so hot - I really dislike Road to Peace. Assuming everyone is downloading the same leak - I love the "Missing My Son" outtake.
