  1. SOLD: Was planning to travel to Austin for a conference and then stick around for the Sept 29 and 30 shows. But my conference plans have gone down the tubes, leaving me with 1 ticket to each show. Note that GA tickets for these two nights at Stubb's in Austin are SOLD OUT. I would prefer to simplify any transaction by selling both tickets to one buyer. Would prefer further to manage transaction by PayPal. Will FedEx ticket(s) upon receipt of revenue. Ticket price(s) to cover fees and delivery to buyer(s). Thanks!

  2. Speaking of the posters, are those of you who have all 5 framing them together (one frame) so the Being There guitar is more obvious?

Took mine in to be framed on Saturday. I am having each framed separately--but I will hang them side-by-side. This will cost a pretty penny--but still will be less expensive than one big frame. (Why, I am not certain. The folks at the frame shop tried to explain it to me. Something about a bulk discount when you have 5 or more things framed at once.)

I feel like a moron. I just realized that the Being There guitar is across the posters, after reading the above post.

  3. Fantastic show. It will be difficult to top.

Great version of "Ashes of American Flags"--but my favorites were the rarities.

Lots of frat brats and talkers on the balcony. Oh, well. (I am a recovering frat brat, so I can use the phrase without complete condescension.)

Nels is God. And Glenn is the Devil.

  4. Bedbug gogo also moved this thread. Maybe it was the wrong thing to do, I don't know. If one of the other moderators wants to move this back, fine with me.

It just seemed to me that the Wilco/residency tie-in for this thread was more of a stretch that it was for the other threads. The other threads were people coming to Chicago for those shows, looking for information on things to do/places to stay while there. Whereas this thread is soliciting people who are going to the shows, and could just as easily have been posted here in TTL as "anyone who lives in Chicago, come volunteer for Obama". And the Golden Smog thing was an actual Tweedy appearance, and therefore perfectly legit in Just a Fan.

Certainly not an anti-Obama thing at all, just trying to keep things in their right spots. Again, if the other mods disagree with that, I'm not going to complain if it gets moved back.

OK. Thank you for going to the trouble to provide an explanation.

  5. This thread was moved from "Just a Fan" to "Tongue-Tied Lightning."

So, let me get this straight: It's permissible to post in "Just a Fan" about restaurants that one might visit while in Chicago for the Wilco Winter Residency. It's permissible to post in "Just a Fan" about hotels in Chicago, for those visiting for the Wilco Winter Residency. It's permissible to post in "Just a Fan" about Tweedy or Golden Smog playing at an Obama rally. But it's not permissible to post in "Just a Fan" about the possibility of volunteering for Obama while in Chicago for the Wilco Winter Residency? I don't get it.

  6. I'm traveling from Virginia to Chicago for the shows, and I thought that volunteering for Obama would be a good use of my time between concerts. The folks at Obama for America HQ tell me that they have a need for volunteers. If you show up, they will put you to work.

If you are so inclined, here is some information you might find useful:

  7. NUDIE SUIT!!!!

    OK, gang, I need help:

Jeff's wearing the Nudie Suit comes on the heels of my developing a serious fascination with these clothes, and this is dangerous.

How serious a fascination, you might ask? Over the last few weeks, I bought a book on Nudie and his work (Nudie the Rodeo Tailor); I managed to track down Nudie Cohn's granddaughter (Jamie Lee Nudie) about finding suits similar to her grandfather's; I've talked to Jaime Castaneda (used to work for Nudie, now runs his own place in Hollywood); I've talked to Manuel Cuevas (used to work for Nudie, now runs his own place in Nashville); I have tracked Nudie suits on eBay; I have tried to find local tailors who can replicate Nudie's work; and I have a friend in Nashville who is scoping out Katy K's Western Wear, which sometimes sells used Nudie suits.

My obsession has become so dangerous that I now believe that I MUST have one of these suits--or at least a decent copy. Based on the information I have, it seems that Jaime's new clothes are not as expensive as Manuel's. And the used Nudie suits that I have seen online look stained and ugly.

Does anyone have any contacts of anyone who might be able to make a Nudie knock-off suit or jacket?

Thanks. Anyone else out there who is suffering similarly, let's start a support group. (My wife has given me a stern warning about this Nudie fascination already, but my obsession may have already lapsed into early action.)

  8. i am actually selling mine right now on ebay---because i need some $$, not because it is a bad guitar. actually the one i have is well built & plays well. has a good vintage tone. no big complaints, only that the tremelo bar tends to throw it out of tune when used.

    Thanks.

  9. Probably will forget something:

    Guitars:

1995? G& L Telecaster ASAT Classic (my best electric ever I'd say)

    2002 Samick RL-5 Semi-Hollowbody, copy of Gibson ES-137

    ? Ibanez Artcore Semi-Hollowbody with Bigsby :)

2006 Eastwood Sidejack Deluxe (copy of Mosrite)

1943 Martin 017 Acoustic parlor guitar

1998 Takamine LTD Acoustic (beautiful inlays as opposed to usual cheese they do)

1978 Takamine copy of a Martin acoustic, actually sounds really good

? Sunlite 1/2 size nylon string acoustic

    Amps:

    1995 Fender Hot Rod Deville

2006 Epiphone practice amp. One knob.

    Effects:

    Dunlop Crybaby Wah

    Big Muff Fuzz

    Danelectro Tremelo

    Danelectro Chorus

    Danelectro Daddy-O Overdrive

    a very old MXR Flanger

    a broken Boss Octave pedal

a horrible looking but useful Alesis GT rack mount effects unit

What do you think of the Eastwood? Anyone else have an Eastwood or know someone who does? I just stumbled upon the Eastwood Guitars link on the Wilco website. I've never seen one before--but I am intrigued. . .

  10. They were both done by Heroes and Villains who I think is a guy named Mike Weihs. If you go to gigposters.com and look up his name you can get his email address and ask if there are any more.

    Good luck.

    Perfect. Thank you.

  11. I've scoured the internet for two days but can't find what I am looking for, so here goes:

The Wilco Store has sold all of the posters from the Jan 30 show in Knoxville and the Jan 31 show in Charlottesville. Slightly different versions of the same image: person swinging from a guitar-shaped tree.

I cannot for the life of me find an electronic image of the poster from the Charlottesville show. Does anyone know who designed these posters? Or does anyone have an electronic image of the poster from the Charlottesville show? (Silly as it may seem, I need the image to be the "album cover" for the show on my iPod.)

    Thanks.

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

No, that's not true. We don't want to break your heart. And we won't. That's why we're making a little something for all you Wilco fans out there. We're fans, too, you know. Watch for the six-pack of 2" Wilco UniPo at our booth at San Diego Comic-Con, y'all. Jeff, Nils, Glenn, John, Pat and Mikael will all be there. Keep your eyes here for more updates.
