Just masterful.
Yeah, I never thought that part was a mistake. No wrong notes, it's in time--to me it sounded like something a mandolin would play at the end of a little run in a tune like this

Why does nobody like Born Alone? One of my favorites from the album, no doubt.
I do. I went through all the songs and decided to learn one of them. I picked Born Alone. The chords have been submitted to Ultimate Guitar and will be up soon. I was lost on a few of the lyrics though...

Agree about the headphones. I am so much more into it now that I'm listening with them and I agree about One Sunday Morning too. That is one beautiful and heartbreaking song. I love the way Tweedy's voice sounds on this song. I can't put my finger on what it is but there is a quality to it that is just so touching.
It sounds like he whispered it into a microphone that was very close (like right up on) his mouth. Makes it sound like he's really close and whispering to you, thus the "intimate" quality. It also has a odd frequency response (read: kinda lofi quality)
There might be a reason for the YLT influence: they did that really cool show at a baseball diamond with YLT. One Sunday Morning is very YLT-esque: super long, mellow upbeat acoustic jam, whispered vocals, keys

I kinda got bored of Sunday Morning the first time through...I'll have to listen to it again

Almost is clearly in response to the whole "Dad Rock" thing. It's gotta be one of the most modern things they've done. Sounds..."cinematic"

BORING!
OMG ITS THE BEST THING MADE BY ANYONE EVER

"Capitol City" reminds me of "When I'm 64". First Beatles song I really got into
My favorites are Art of Almost, Sun Loathe, Open Mind, Born Alone, Red Rising Lung
The drum sounds in Almost are ridiculous

don't know if these have been mentioned before, but here's mine:
Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday
Little Person - Jon Brion
Fleetwood Mac - Need Your Love So Bad (and many other blues songs)
Here Comes A Regular - The Replacements
You Were Right - Built to Spill

I don't know if I'd say that. They draw from a lot of pop music besides just The Beatles; many people pointed to Randy Newman. But it did remind me of When I'm 64 at first. I was playing Cole Porter's Begin The Beguine with my jazz band the other day and was surprised at how much one part sounds like Hummingbird
