  1. Cranberries - No Need to Argue (don't make fun, I know it's cheese)

Moby - Everything is Wrong (again, don't make fun)

    Beach Boys - Surf's Up

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders

and because all my others are so freakishly well known

St. Christopher - All of a tremble

  2. I posted the mix, check the first post. I changed the tracklisting a little bit...not much though. Added some Boyracer by popular demand (sort of). Then after adding the Boyracer I realized that it sounded really out of place with the other tracks so I added some rougher tracks to make it feel more at home. I've eaten my previous comment that I didn't like Boyracer, though I'm not quite sure if it's digested yet. It's an alright song. It was sort of an important song in the history of the label at least, which is something considering this is mostly a didactic mix, though I do love all of the songs (with the acception of the aformentioned Boyracer track which I merely like as of now). If it was just a mix of my favorite songs on the label, it would probly just consist of Heavenly's discography. Anyway, enjoy the mix.

  3. What, no Boyracer? Didn't Boyracer release 3 EPs on Sarah Records ("Pure Hatred '96," "From Purity to Purgatory," and "B is for Boyracer," I believe)? Otherwise, great compilation!

I only have a few Boyracer songs that I had downloaded some time ago and I really don't like any of them. I have 'I've got it and it's not worth having' and 'He get's me so hard'. I didn't enjoy either of those.

My wife works looking out over the park. She has been known to collect small frogs there - don't ask

I don't know much of anything about the park besides that song. It just seemed to fit in with the Sarah Compilations that the actual label had released to name the thing after a park. But it looks like a pretty place from the pictures I've seen.

  4. If anyone is interested, I just made a Sarah Records compilation for a friend that I thought some of you might want to a. see the tracklisting or b. download it because you are unfamiliar with the label.

I guess you either love or hate this label but I've always kinda loved it. Just some good pop music. And the politics of the label were pretty cool too. Seeing as Matt Haynes is kinda reluctant to reissue stuff (besides the recent Field Mice/Orchids/Heavenly re-releases) I don't see any of this being made easily available anytime soon. All of the songs come from the label's 7" releases.

    1. The Sea Urchins-Pristine Christine

    2. Another Sunny Day-You Should All Be Murdered

    3. Brighter-I Don

  5. ...I'm not sure why I've never heard Tiger Trap before...they sound like something I would really like. Or maybe I have heard them before. I have no idea. I like that song a lot though.

Tiger Trap was an all girl band (I think) that included Rose Melberg (who was also in the Softies and Go Sailor) that kicked all sorts of ass for a very short period of time. They only had one full release that was self titled and came out in '93. It's amazingly good. If you can find it, it's definitely worth the effort. Other than that I think they had a single or two or maybe an ep. Good stuff though.

VC MIX #429 : THE MAGIC PIANO SESSIONS

(INTRO) Magic Piano Y'all - Sparky's Magic Piano

    Dead Right - Psyche Origami

Elevate My Mind (American Mix) - Stereo MC's

    This Time - DJ Shadow

    Long Time - The Roots

There Goes the Fear - Doves

    The Garden - Cut Chemist

The Cosmic Game - Thievery Corporation

    Red Sea - Asobi Seksu

    Promised Land - Edan

Keep What Ya Got - Ian Brown

I've had rotten luck w/ YSI and now my work is blocking rapidshare, so go here...SUDDEN IMPACT!!!

Nice mix, the Roots song is a favorite. I love the intros you always throw onto your mixes. This is also the first Thievery Corporation song I've seen on a mix that wasn't Lebanese Blonde (for it's inclusion in Garden State). Look forward to puting this mix on whenever I need to listen to something other than guitar oriented indie pop (which I really do love). It should fill the void nicely that was previously filled by your Roof mix (which I enjoyed). :thumbup

  7. Friedman says he'd legalize pot in Texas

By MICHAEL GRACZYK, Associated Press Writer Thu Sep 14, 3:15 PM ET

AUSTIN, Texas - Kinky Friedman says he favors legalizing marijuana to keep nonviolent users out of prison. If Texas elects him governor, he says, he'll try to get locked-up pot users released to make room for more violent criminals.

"I think that's long overdue," Friedman told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday. "I think everybody knows what (U.S. Sen.) John McCain said is right: We've pretty well lost the war on drugs doing it the way we're doing it. Drugs are more available and cheaper than ever before. What we're doing is not working."

Friedman, the often irreverent singer, entertainer and mystery writer, is running as an independent in a bid to unseat Republican Gov. Rick Perry, and he's getting some serious attention.

He said he'd take a closer look at the use of the death penalty in Texas, wants to clean house on the state's board and commissions and would dump public school assessment tests, even if it costs the state federal money.

On the death penalty, he said he would be more liberal with the governor's authority to grant a one-time 30-day reprieve to condemned killers.

"I would be careful killing a guy," he said. "I think there are people who need to die, but the question I've asked mostly is: When was the last time we've executed a rich man in Texas?"

He bristled at the criticism heaped on him after he called some Hurricane Katrina evacuees in Houston "crackheads and thugs."

Friedman said Wednesday that his plan to give $100 million to Houston to hire more police "was not in any way racist."

"How can you possibly regret that, telling the truth?" he asked. "I am not a racist, I am a realist. In looking at the statistics, I know that 20 percent of the homicides in Houston have been committed by the element in the evacuee population.

"I never said what color their skin was. I never said all evacuees are crack dealers or crackheads. I'm smarter than that."

Also in the race for governor are Democrat Chris Bell, Libertarian James Werner and another independent, Carole Strayhorn, the state comptroller who won that office as a Republican.

As for Friedman, he said he doesn't like being called a politician.

"I don't mind being called a flip-flopper," he said, a description Perry's campaign has placed on him. "I think we actually could use a flip-flopper as governor because a flip-flopper is a human being open to change, and God knows change is what we need now."

He acknowledged that the Texas governor's authority is limited compared with executives in other states but said he would use the bully pulpit to cajole legislators. He doesn't trust them, he said, adding: "I do not trust the media either."

"Right now the lobbyists are leading us. We have a lack of leadership, a vacuum," he said.

One of the Texas governor's few powerful roles is in appointing state board members, and Friedman said he would replace as many as he could, including regents at the University of Texas and Texas A&M.

"You clean house," he said. "You get the old farts out of there. You put a bunch of young people in and you put a bunch of people who care about Texas. It's pretty simple."

    If he wins

  8. Thanks. I downloaded this the other night, but haven't had time to listen yet.

Cool, hope you enjoy it. It might take a little getting used to as most of the songs don't have incredible sound quality becuase of somewhat lo-fi recordings, but they're all pretty solid pop songs. I've found that if the volume is up loud enough for the first track, the Courtney Love (the band, not the OTHER Courtney Love) track that follows doesn't sound quite as soft. The Heavenly track that closes it off is amazingly good.

  9. I'm just gonna post it. It's not a really specific theme, but the mix is made up of some good indie pop songs from around the early 90's. Most of them having something to do with some sort of relationship frustration. But didn't every indie pop song from the 90's deal with that? I've really been getting into this era of music recently. There is some volume difference between songs, the most jarring being between the first and second track, but I'm not really sure how to fix this. I didn't feel like making cover artwork etc. but I sorta whipped up a picture real quick. It's not the correct size for a cd cover but... Enjoy:

  10. Is this program going to fuck up my computer? I've been looking for some music that is impossible to find so I figured why not get some file sharing software. It looks pretty safe.

  11. I'm not sure if this is against the rules on this board...but I'm gonna ask anyway. I've been looking all over the internet for either 'I'm in love with a girl who doesn't know I exist' or 'you should all be murdered' by Another Sunny Day, and seeing as all I have come by in my multi hour conquest is expired mp3 blog links I figured I'd ask here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  12. Ok, I've had my ipod for about a month now and everything is going fine. However, recently (today) I added some songs onto it that aren't being registered in the artist section. I have to either find the album or the song. This is sort of annoying so I was wondering if any of you tech savy via chicagoans could help me out. Weird bug?

  13. I don't know how many of y'all enjoyed the first one (I love it) but I've been listening to the new one for about a week now and its even better! Really great stuff. :dancing

I just wish I was cool enough to have heard all these songs originally because it's my first time to here many of the songs (minus the ones everybody has heard...).
