Jeff Tweedy, 24 February 2007

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am currently listening to the Letters to Santa recording from The Drost Home, Barrington, Il on 24 February 2007. (Thanks for the wonderful download site, Owl. :worship )

The setlist notes that Jeff was supported, or 'assisted' by various 'groups'. So, my questions are:

1) Who are B5?

2) Who are Ken and Kevin Drost?

3) Who is Elise?

4) Who are Some Strange Purse?

5) Who are The Burrito Palace Penthouse Pals?

6) Who are Sleepy Kisser?

7) Who is Mel?

8) Who is Tom?

9) Who are The Family Gardeners?

10) Who are The Associates?

11) Who are American Karaoke?

12) Who are The Carcass of the Pimps which Jeff renamed Planet Sleet?

Would be interested in any and all information on the above 'assistants'.

Thanks in advance,

Colin

I'm a member of the Sleets and I played with Some Strange Purse (made up of 4 women), Burrito Palace Penthouse Pals, and Family Gardeners.

As for group, here's a general description:

All but one or two of the people on the recording are based in Chicago or the Chicago area.

Ages range from 19 to . . . well, I think we've got every decade covered up to maybe 60-something.

Nearly all of the people on this recording are or have been students at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, and most have been members of the school's Wilco class.

Yes, there's a class devoted to playing songs by Wilco. It's run by everyone's favorite song figurin' out ninja, Bobby G. He's feaking incredible.

Bob's the only professional musician (except maybe Kevin?). The group includes teachers, lawyers, a geographer, a medical technician, an advertising guy, psychotherapists, engineers, a nonproft employee/nature writer, a professional camera man/AV technician, and all sorts of other people.

I was talking with Jeff near the end of the night and mentioned to him that a lot of great friendships and good times have grown out of this group that came together to play his music. It was nice to have a chance to thank Jeff for creating such a wonderful collection of songs that has helped to bring together an amazing community of people. New friendships, lots of fun, and even a few romances have developed thanks to Jeff's music and Bob's idea to get people together to learn to play it. :yay :yay

The Sleets continue to play together and we're planning a gig at the Winds Cafe in Logan Square on Saturday, July 15. So feel free to come out and meet the crew.

That's the general run down. Anyway, who be you and what inspired your interest?

Cheers.

SF
