Coltrane
I guess I must just be lucky, but I have seen Ryan 11 times since Whiskeytown broke up (Once in 2001, three times in 2002, once in 2003, twice in 2005, twice in 2006, and twice in 2007) and every one of the shows has been amazing. He may not play for as long as in the past, but his singing and guitar playing are better than ever right now. Respect to those who don't want to take a chance on seeing Ryan live because they've had bad experiences, but I've never had any. It really sucks that some folks had a bad time at the show the other night, but the two shows I just saw in Charlottesville a few weeks ago were bad ass. Even though there have not been any major problems at shows I've been to, it's obviously pretty well known that things like what happened in MPLS the other night can happen at an RA show and I have no doubt that would piss me off. Personally I think it's still worth the risk. Ryan may not provide professional, workmanlike shows from night to night like some other artists do, but when he makes it across the proverbial tightrope his shows are hard to beat. I think he makes it across a lot more often than people give him credit for. Just my opinion. I was really surprised when people on the board started liking Ryan again when "Easy Tiger" came out, but I was pretty sure that it wouldn't last long.
redeyedndblue
I still like Adams, and I think that many who have posted about their negative experiences at his shows probably still like him too. I think his voice sounds great right now. I was hopeful that he might have calmed down a little, but it turns out that he has not. I'll still buy his music and consider my self a fan. I just can't see myself shelling out the cash for what amounts to two raised middle fingers at the audience.
