  1. Cool, glad to see this is available now.

My band had the pleasure of opening for Rock Plaza Central in Minneapolis last fall. Really nice folks......Chris, John, Don & Fionna are planning to record some horns & strings on a couple songs for our new record. (Hopefully later this month) We sent them the rough mixes, and they're gonna record their parts and send em back. Can't wait to hear how it turns out.

  2. Post a reminder about next Thursday next week and I will try and swing by after work. Likewise if you can make your way a few blocks up Lincoln, you can come visit a real live thriving indie record store at 4639 N Lincoln!

Here's your reminder. Hope to see some of you there!

    :cheers

  3. They have reopened... new management I believe. One of the bartenders dropped some flyers by the store. Post a reminder about next Thursday next week and I will try and swing by after work. Ok, sounds good....and I bet we will stop in there. Thanks for letting me know about the store; we're always looking for places like that when we play in other cities...sometimes they're hard to find.

  4. wife and i are flying in at 8:30am Thur into Midway, leaving at 7am Fri :)

What time does the PJ show get over? Western Fifth is playing at the Horseshoe BBQ that night....probably sometime between 11-12:00. We're the only band playing, so we'll probably do two sets (or one long one). Oh, and they have dollar beers.

    :beer

  5. My band (Western Fifth - from Minneapolis) is playing at the Horseshoe BBQ next Thursday night. I don't know much about it, other than it is apparently a "Texas BBQ joint with live music" and typically has country-rock type bands. Any people in the Chicago area know anything about it?

also, if you're not too busy attending Lollapalooza, come on by Thursday night. :cheers

  6. Good luck. Take those comments with a grain of salt. Folks can be harsh on there.

haha, yeah no shit. Our one song got decent comments, but the other just had one. We had taken the song down right away, but some guy listened to it before the site removed it. He left a pretty nasty (but funny) comment...after checking out the comments he'd left on other songs, I didn't feel to bad. ;)

  7. Red Fizz

Anyone ever check out this website? They review & rate unsigned bands, etc. We put a song up there last fall, and got a few decent comments. It's kinda cool, because anyone can sign up to rate, review & comment on songs. Anyway, I just found out our new song is going to be the featured song of the day on Friday (June 8th). Curious how much traffic the site gets.

fyi - the new song isn't posted yet, but it is on our myspace page if you're interested

(yes, this is the same song I posted here the other day) :pirate

  8. I was the sports editor of my hometown newspaper my senior year of HS (first school-run city newspaper in the nation, actually)

I only used a pun once.....our girls BBall team beat the eventual state champion team, who was missing their star player (last name Topp)

Girls Basketball: "Flyers beat Topp-less Mustangs"

    yeah, kinda lame

  9. I was pretty disappointed in this piece. Great premise ... poor execution.

agreed. either the writers are trying WAY to hard to be clever, or they have absolutely no imagination.

for example, i'm not really a huge fan of the song Piano Man (and especially not a fan of Billy Joel), but I have always loved the lyric "making love to his tonic & gin"...which I think is a very poetic way of saying a person is getting fucking hammered. And I've always assumed a "Real Estate Novelist" is an aspiring (but failing) writer who works a day job as a sales agent in the soul-sucking world of real estate.

    but maybe that's just me...

  10. Electric: 1962 Epiphone Casino

    Acoustic: Epiphone Hummingbird

I also occasionally use my roommate/bandmates Gibson SG for gigs, depending on the situation.

And of course, I have a pile of cheap guitars & assorted string instruments (banjo, mandolin, lap steel, etc), a piano, and an antique pump organ (built in Germany in the 1890's)

  11. We had the pleasure of opening for Richard Buckner at the Turf Club in St Paul last week. I really enjoyed his performance, but then again, i'm a huge fan. The only other time i've seen him was last year, when Doug Gillard (GBV) toured with him.

Both mjpuczko (Matt) & Solace (Kyle) were there...but I think they both left during Buckner's set.

  12. nice!

that will be a HOT ticket to get (it'll sell out in 10-15 minutes, maybe less), as it's the smallest venue of any on the regular US tour by almost half.

well shit...that's not too encouraging. we are three of the most unreliable people ever. sounds like our odds of getting tix are pretty low. haha

    :lol

  13. Although i'm pretty disappointed there isn't a minneapolis date listed, this might work out for me. My buddy Chris & I have been trying to plan a trip to visit another friend in San Diego, and we were thinking maybe late April or so. And it just so happens the show in SD on April 26th is Chris' birthday. :dancing
