Wow, I was going to come over here and shamelessly post a link to this interview, but someone beat me to the punch. I'm bummed that I wasn't able to publish the full conversation that I had with Nels, but Time Out generally keeps things short and to the point. The impression I got while talking to Nels (and I hope that this came through) is that he's very excited to have the time to work on projects that AREN'T Wilco right now. Judging by the various releases and recent touring activity by other Wilco members, it seems like everyone is taking some well-deserved time to do their own thing. I think that's probably why the next Wilco album is "on a slow road", especially now that Jeff is taking the time to release his long-rumored solo record. Perhaps the fall Wilco tour will serve as a warm up for the next LP?
Anyways, thanks for posting this link. I don't read these boards as much as I once did, but it's an honor to be able to share this interview with some fellow Wilco fans.

Also, Jim is still totally making music. He has a new album out this week that got reviewed in Pitchfork this morning. I think he talked a lot about being less interested in working on music, and more interested in film in a couple interviews years ago when he moved to Japan. That impression seems to have stuck in everyone's mind. His musical output has been limited, and a bit more obscure than his Drag City hay day.
According to this interview, he's working on his next record in the vein of Insignificance and Eureka: http://www.timeout.jp/en/tokyo/feature/7344/Jim-ORourke-interview-transcript

Wish I had been able to see him play with Wilco (I became a fan of the band long after he had departed the lineup). Even though IATTBYH essentially villainized him, I think it's still possible to watch that film and see glimpses of what he was truly like. I love the rendition of "Cars Can't Escape" with Jay on piano and Jeff singing that was captured in that film—still sends shivers down my spine.
Since moving to Chicago a few years back, I've had the privilege of spending some time in the Pieholden Suite Sound studios, sometimes in front of that very same piano that Jay played. Jay's old friend Matt Dewine runs the place now and the studio is chock full of gear that he amassed during his time in Wilco (a great deal of the stuff that was in the loft when the band recorded YHF actually belonged to Jay). Any musician who is also a Wilco fan should check it out next time they're thinking about recording: http://www.pieholdensuitesound.com/

Sharon Van Etten, Calexico, Jonathan Richman and--most importantly--Mavis Staples added to the lineup.

Press release states that Wilco is headlining on Saturday (June 1) and John Prine will close things out on Sunday (June 2.)
Looks like Reigning Sound, Cotton Jones and Wooden Indian Burial Ground are also confirmed.

I'll be there in MZ Box 17— sounds as if VCers are all over the box seats.

For anyone who has Spotify, you can now stream the four bonus tracks from the deluxe version of the record.

Apologies if these articles have been posted elsewhere, but there seems to be a need for something of substance in regards to the new record in this thread.
Here are a few impressions of some of the tracks on the new record: http://timeoutchicago.com/music-nightlife/music/14916169/wilco’s-the-whole-love
And here's a nice little piece that nicely encapsulates the sentiment behind the latest LP (despite misspelling Nels' name): http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/September-2011/Wilco-to-Release-The-Whole-Love-on-New-Label/?fb_ref=top&fb_source=profile_oneline
The record is definitely in the hands of industry and journalist types here in the US— that it hasn't leaked thus far is some kind of minor miracle considering Wilco's track-record in the past. Only a few more weeks to go (and I would be surprised if there wasn't some sort of band-sanctioned streaming option sooner than that)

When does the pre-order ship? I haven't pre-ordered from the wilco store before. Do they ship before its available in stores?
According to the Wilco Store:
Pre-orders will ship on or near July 14, 2011 to allow delivery by the I Might 7" release date, July 19. Any items ordered with pre-order items will ship at the same time. -
So, if Wilco Store is getting blue vinyl and the UK is getting silver, any guesses as to the Solid Sound exclusive color?
-
Same here--my guess is they're running behind.

Not sure if this has been mentioned here before, but Leroy plays a solo acoustic set every Friday at the Whistler in Chicago. If you have any doubts about how great of a player he is, go and see for yourself.
-
Think the song you're missing is "The Answer". I definitely remember them playing that one-- love the bass line on it.

Here's my covers of "How To Fight Loneliness" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiYtxmBHTnQ and "I'm the Man Who Loves You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtYNz6Y0gDE

While I love hearing AGIB tracks live, they never quite live up to the studio versions for me. I think this is partly due to how great O'Rourke's production on this record was, and also the fact that he was essentially the fifth member of the band during these sessions, sitting in on pretty much every track. O'Rourke is a genius, and without his participation I don't think any of the AGIB songs are quite the same.

Jeff's whammy bar got a serious work out last night. His lead guitar work seems much more muscular and prevalent this tour. It is edifying to see him play like that.
Good to hear Jeff is taking lead again, after so many years of awesome interpretations of his A Ghost is Born solos by Nels. I think it's easy to forget that on that particular record, Jeff did almost all the lead work himself. As much as I love what Nels does, I'm really looking forward to some scorching Tweedy solos next week in Columbus!

Mu columbus pre-sale tickets came yesterday.
Mine too! Frontgate even sent me a tracking number so I could keep tabs on where my tickets were. A big improvement over MusicToday's old system of consistently sending tickets out late...

The streams are up on XPN, I'll link them for anyone who's interested.

I went to the Wexner show in October 2007. Good sound, theatre set up. I liked it enough that I will be going for tickets when they go onsale for the 10.12.09 show.
Last Wilco show I went to at the Wex was back in 05, but I've been to countless other shows there since and it has been a consistently great venue to see music at. I'll hopefully see you folks there!

they barely have any shirts for sale on this new site. lame. maybe they will add more later. and still no vinyl reissues mention!
My guess is that the inventory from the old store is still being transferred to the new store; so I'm sure the selection will increase drastically within the next few weeks. As for the Wilco vinyl reissues-- they've been confirmed; if you're really concerned about pre-ordering try Insound or Amazon.

All ages? If so, I'll totally be there...

Yeah, he mentioned it in the recent Twitter Q&A: https://twitter.com/Wilco/status/773254798401503232
Pretty sure that Jeff is a friend of Saki's owner—I recall seeing him shopping there on Record Store Day a few years back. At one point, the store was working with Sue to put together an exhibition of Lounge Axe memorabilia, though I don't believe that ever came to fruition.
Saki is my neighborhood store, so I'm very sad to see it go. In terms of selection and the ability to quickly order just about anything you asked for, there's no place like it in the city.
If anyone knows of someone in Chicago who wants to get into the record store business (a tall order, I'm aware), there's some excellent stock (the shop also housed an independent distribution company, also being shut down) and a few very experienced employees that will be available in the coming weeks...
