  1. Email came from wilcoworld, but no password. I would love a PM too - if anyone gets one.

Also, the times given do not specify a time zone. Anyone know what timezone the presale times are?

    Thanks all...

Uhhh - edit...via wilco website - times are based on the timezone where the show takes place...I am not too bright.

  2. truly a brilliant thread ... shallow and deep at the same time ...i felt the need to post just to resurect (sp) it

Well, I have to say that after further listening, I am ready to post my rankings. Much thought and effort, and a wall-sized pro/con list has gone into this, but I will say...

    AM

    Being There

    Sumerteeth

    (Mermaid I, II)

    YHF

    A Ghost is Born

    Kicking TV

    Sky Blue Sky

    Wilco

However, a vinyl ranking would be more like this:

    AM

    Being There

    Summerteeth

    YHF

    AGIB

    SBS

    Wilco

    Kicking TV

    I'm just sayin'

  3. My girlfriend and I bought our airfare and tickets (GA)! Can't wait for the show. How early is everyone planning on showing up?

We are planning to go in the morning, go for a hike, have a picnic, drink a bit, and hang out all evening! VERY excited!!

  4. Does anyone have suggestions for 4th of July festivities going on in the nearby towns? Can't imagine a prettier place to take in some fireworks with the Rockies as a backdrop.

The city of Golden (20 min from RR) does a great fireworks show on the 4th. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner in Golden on the 4th last year, and all of our guests went to watch it and were pretty impressed. It was great!

Glad to hear its Okkervil River! Great news.

(Wow - do I need a new Adjective or what - I squeezed a whole lotta great into that post...)

  5. someone is selling a used Pro-ject Debut III for $250. have you heard anything on those?

Had one. I really liked it, though I could hear its limitations by the end of the time I had it. A solid table though. I would definitely upgrade the cartridge on it - I like the Ortofon 2M Red or Blue myself. Its a good "starter" if you are moving up from a not so great Technics.

  6. Looking to upgrade my techniques turntable. Trying to stay under $300. any sugguestions?

Under $300 you are best off to find something used. Technics made/makes some good tables. Depending on what you have, you might want to just upgrade your cartridge. Look on Audiogon.com Look on stevehoffman.tv for advice, do a search there.

  7. Agreed.... But I think Jay Bennett needs to be a part of this

Ken Coomer can play the country drums.

    I'll invite Max Johnston.

I mean, if we're going to go down this road, we may as well invite Jay Farrar and Mike Heidorn.

  8. Ken Coomer can play the country drums.

    Ken who? :shifty

After hearing Summerteeth for the first time (and well before she became a fan of Wilco) my wife said, "do they think they're the Beatles or something?"

For some people, great music = Beatles.

For me, Wilco = Wilco, and 90% of the time, = Great Music. Wilco ≠ Beatles....EVER, Apples ≠ Oranges, though I love them both.

  9. IMO Paste killed itself with Lackluster writing, asinine reviews, and decreasing quality of artistic management (layout, photos, etc.). Those are the reasons I canceled my subscription to this once great mag, and why I don't want to support them now.

  10. ok, Shirley.

    Well played, sir....(ma'am?)

But what I am REALLY interested in about this cover is - which chair represents which member of Wilco....

I mean this is SERIOUS stuff. Is Wilco giving us a message? I mean, clearly Jeff sits at the head of the table. It's HIS party after all....

Nels must be the one in the front-left, as that chair is so far from the table (Dear GOD that man is tall).

Who has the two drink cups? Who has the noise maker (Mikael?)...

Is Pat dead? Is that what this cover means? Pat is dead! What? Oh god, its Abbey Rd all over again AHHHHH!

    Please discuss....(please?)

  11. I'm sure this has already been discussed but what do people use to clean their LP's? I usually just use distilled water and isopropyl mixed about 50/50.

This system looks great but it's a bit expensive for my needs. Anybody have any experience with it?

    http://www.nittygrittyinc.com/

That works great, but it is expensive. Go to www.stevehoffman.tv/forums and search around there - I am not sure where exactly it is, but there is a bunch of info on cleaning records there, many obsessive collectors giving their own techniques. The Nitty Gritty is a great tool, but not 100% necessary.

  12. the one gripe i have with wilco vinyl is that all their albums come on 4 sides. too much getting up and flipping. but its worth it.

trace on vinyl would be sick. i wanna pick up strangers almanac

The "Flipping" and interaction with my music is one of the things I love most about vinyl. The process! I don't have a fancy enough Hi-Fi to make the vinyl sound 1000% better (though IMHO it does sound 200% better), but the physicality of it, the ritual of the needle falling into the groove, and getting to know that I am a part of the process really sweetens the vinyl experience for me.

Strangers Almanac is gorgeous on vinyl.

  13. Wow, that could be anyone. If it's "The Fray" someone is getting a smackdown.

I ended up getting the GA tickets. I hope to be in line by about noon or so, I'll be the guy with the beer.

Flobots? That could be a fun warmup - though I could see a lot of people not too happy about that.

  14. "Will flash boobs for Candyfloss"?

I'll flash mine for Candyfloss, but I am a dead-ringer for a heavier version of my avatar, so I am not sure if that would help or hurt the cause.....

  15. We got reserved in row 27 and a pair of GA. Haven't been to Red Rocks yet. Is the GA section in the front of row 25??

As usual, GA is the front rows and the back. The reserved is in the middle, yes, but this is, sonically, the "sweet spot" at Red Rocks. The reserved always surrounds the soundboard, and is the area where you can hear the most clearly, even on a windy night, which changes things for the upper rows, especially. The lower GA section is fun, but generally the sound is a bit muddier that close, as the PA (vocals) is aimed to reach the whole venue, a bit above the front rows.

That said, Red Rocks is a great place to see a show, the sound is generally quite good everywhere, and even the lackluster sound at the LAST Wilco Red Rocks show (a very windy night) did not ruin it. There are very few bad seats at Red Rocks.

For the out of towners, do plan on spending some time having drinks in the parking lot, but bring a beer or two with you when you walk up to the entrance, it is a bit of a hike, and generally they don't make you throw out drinks until you reach the gate - which is up a big flight of stairs (on both sides). This walk can be a whole lot of fun, as everyone is feeling "merry" and getting excited for the show to start. Also - they allow you to bring food (sealed) and bottled water (sealed) and a bag/backpack into the venue (as of last year anyway - the food thing may have changed). My wife and I usually bring some crazy creek chairs (the low-back, foldable ones) in, as the seats are benches (nice, deep benches - set into the row behind them...pretty nice actually), and a blanket or two - it can get cold after sunset, even in July. Also, at that time of year it is not uncommon to have rain in the evening. It generally clears up pretty quickly, but we get some cloudbursts around 5:00ish - bring a rain jacket! Beautiful scenery too - bring your camera!

Overall, RR is a fun, beautiful, relaxed place to see a show - enjoy, and don't stress over GA/Reserved, whatever - I have always been able to get where I need to be at RR shows.

  16. Can't think of when off the top of my head - but there is a solo show sometime when Jeff plays Screen Door, and he says he never cared much for the line "never saw much school" and he changes it to something else that I can't recall right now either. Man, I am a font of non-knowledge, eh? But - he may talk more about the song in that appearance...I will keep thinking/looking for it. (a 2003 show?)

  17. I think this was the only article I actually read in the new Paste....more stupidity from this rag....

Agreed - I canceled my sub after 4-ish years after several issues in a row that were completely filled with drivel. The 50th issue was an abomination...and the last straw.
