  1. Been listening to this album a bunch this week, pretty solid stuff from Dave Bielanko. Nice pressing and sound as well. Not up there with Kids in Philly or If You Didn't Laugh, but a cozy little album good for some winter listening.

Have an extra copy of the vinyl as well, PM me if interested.

  2. Complete setlist, as played:

To quote Judge Smails in Caddyshack, "Well....we're waiting???"

Great show, we left during Hummingbird...around the 30 song mark maybe???

Know they played "In the Street" as a tribute to Alex Chilton, heard it in parking garage next to the venue.

  3. Some great choices. No love for "Under the Blacklight" by Rilo Kiley though? The perfect pop album in my book!

Marah is no longer "cool"...but Kids in Philly was a great cd.

Didn't see Josh Rouse's "Nashville" mentioned here? Phenomenal CD!!!

Any love for the first Audioslave album? That has held up pretty well.

I'd probably round out a list of 10 with ones already mentioned:

    Wilco-YHF

    Strokes-Is This It

    Ryan-Heartbreaker

    Beck-Sea Change

    White Stripes-Elephant

    Bright Eyes-I'm Wide Awake...

  4. that's awesome. have you seen Conor/Bright eyes before? I have a few times, and I think this was my favorite show. I was surprised by how hard it rocked.

I had never seen him before, but agree that it rocked pretty hard and was an excellent show. Do I dock him points for wearing a Jason Mraz-style hat during the show? Nah...he wore it well.

I'd like to see a setlist, it seemed like he played quite a few new songs. But I have to admit I'm not overly familiar with the solo album... I have not spun it as much as I'm Wide Awake or Cassadega. But the only ones from the new cd I recall him playing were Sausalito, (I Don't Wanna) Die in the Hospital, and I think Souled Out.

  5. ah shit, you got the full Ghost Busters!? we weren't so lucky, they only fooled around with it when they did the band member intros.

Oh yeah, the full Ghostbusters, in its entirety, as originally made famous by Ray Parker Jr.

Anyway, to hear Conor yell out "bustin makes me feel good" was fantastic.

Full disclosure: We got there late, when Kweller was on, so we missed Rig 1.

  6. Oh, the Union Central is pullin' out and the orchids are in bloom,

I've only got me one good shirt left and it smells of stale perfume.

In fourteen months I've only smiled once and I didn't do it consciously,

Somebody's got to find your trail,

I guess it must be up to me.

There's a neon light ablaze in this green smoky haze, laughter down on Elizabeth Street.

And a lonesome bell tone in that valley of stone, where she bathed in a stream of pure heat.

  7. Just saw Conor this past Friday at tiny Messiah College in Grantham, PA - Wilco played there a couple years ago as well. Pretty great show, Ben Kweller and Rig 1 opened. Kweller came out during Obert's encores, which included "Kodachrome" and a rousing version of "Ghostbusters"....yes, the whole song in its entirety.

  8. Enter the 36 Chambers destroys everything, ever. You know it's true.

If you want to talk about a "gangsta" rap album that's better than anything Wilco ever put out, you'd have to go with NWA's "Straight Outta Compton"....there was nothing like that before, and really nothing since. It's one of those landmark albums that defines the genre, like people say "Nevermind" defined grunge or "12 Inches of Snow" defined white Canadian reggae. (lol)

I remember first listening to this as a 15 yr old white kid and thinking, "wow, these guys are PISSED"...could cops really be bad people? Then Rodney King happens, and I was like, ohhh....now I see what that was all about.

Also, the Rick Rubin-produced Geto Boys is one of the most offensive, profanity-laced albums out there, but it's just so damn well done and so well-produced, it's really a classic.

As far as a general rap album, not Gangsta, I'd go with Public Enemy's "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back." I don't see how anyone could listen to this album and claim Chuck D isn't a talented songwriter or rap wasn't a valid genre. Also much better than "Fear of a Black Planet" IMO.

Runners Up: Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys and "Low End Theory" by Tribe Called Quest.
