  1. This article and VZ's words offend me. There is SO MUCH new and great music around, and he is either too comfortable with the sound of his day or too lazy to do any real research to know that. That Rock and Roll is nothing like it was in his day is a damn good thing, because nothing bores me more than tired ass music. And nothing pisses me off more than radio stations that share his attitude and play nothing but 60's and 70's rock and claim that is THE MUSIC FOR THE AGES, or some shit like that. People just want to believe that their generation is more special, and for some reason a huge contingent of people that grew up in the 60's and 70's want to think this so much (are so self-absorbed) that they've even sold the notion to many people my age, who are also missing out on a shit ton of great music being made or just listening to artists that are so highly derivative of that era that they sound like novelty bands.

  3. I had a fantasy. It happened halfway between being awake and not-awake in my bed, and I was very drunk. The name of the new LP was Dark Neon, and the narrative of the album partially reflected the theme of the fading Middle America so present in the new live DVD. I thought of dingy neon signs outside of mid-population venues/bars/dives, like Otto's in Dekalb. Sigh...

  4. trust me, it is. Dino Jr played before MBV @ ATP last year, and MBV was by far the loudest band i've ever been close to. louder than Boris, than Dino Jr, than Mogwai...probably Swans would be the only louder band ever to play.

this terrifies me, but not as much as it excites me.

  5. Just got a promotional copy of this in at my student radio station, KRUI in Iowa City. We're gonna do some free showings on Monday the 20th. If you live anywhere near, come on by! We're doing showings at 7 and 9.

  6. Went to the Dekalb show on Saturday and had a great time. Brought earplugs but did NOT wear them (it just feels wrong to me), and my ears are still recovering.

They gave away their 7 inch for free, with the p4k sessions of the new song and of Tarpit. Good stuff. Can't wait for the new LP.

    What about MBV?

valid point, but Dino is playing much smaller venues: bars and dives. the sound has much less room to travel. and, i doubt mbv is MUCH louder.

  7. You see, I hated SBS when I initially heard it. My expectations ruined it. Not that it was worse than what I expected, it's just that no matter how it sounded it wasn't going to meet the album I'd already expected and been playing in my head for the months and months and months leading up to it. It took me about 6 or 7 listens to fall in love with SBS. That lasted about 3 months. And really, I only loved it because it was NEW WILCO music, you know? Once the honeymoon wore off, I never really went back to SBS. It's easily my least favorite Wilco album. But that's not really the issue, is it?

My point is that I'm trying really hard NOT to know what I want, or to want anything in particular from this album, because it's not going to sound the way I think it will, no matter what.

*** I had a dream last night in which I heard the final cut of "You and I," and it melted me.***

  8. I can reveal how Wilco fits into the script, but for those who'd rather not know I'll put up a SPOILER ALERT

    SPOILER ALERT

Seth Rogen plays the main character. He's a struggling young comedian named Ira. He's got a crush on a girl that lives in his apartment complex (his roommates are Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman), and he invites her to a Wilco concert. She accepts, but they don't end up going. Ira catches Mark (Schwartzman) and the girl he likes (Daisy? I think that's her name), doing the deed, and he gets pissed at her and calls it off. He ends up scalping the tickets. When I read the script I was salivating over the idea of live Wilco footage in the movie, but was ultimately let down on this front. Sigh.

  9. Why does a band have to be uplifting to be the best band in the world? Not to say that Radiohead necessarily is, but I would think that the quality of the music is the only factor in determining how good the band is, isn't it? Why do they have to make you think happy thoughts to be good?

The best band in the world shouldn't be so one-dimensional.
