  1. Comments? Criticisms? I can take it. The rest of the band is pretty sensitive about it, but they'll never see this thread. I'm not a huge fan of how lucid the mix is. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals either. My singer sang them differently in recording than he ever did in practices and I didn't know how to tell him not to. The drums are also a little clunky. Our drummer looks for cues a lot from the other guitarist and was somewhat lost doing tracks solo (simply the way it had to be done). I'm playing rhythm on all songs except for Monkey, on which I play lead. Seriously, any feedback is appreciated. Much thanks.

  2. It hurts me to say this, but Jeff has really lost his edge. No Jay(s)/Leroy/Ken = No one to keep Jeff honest. While their live set is tight and always fun, anyone else sensing this band songwriting prowess is going downhill (while their notiriety and acclaim has increased) ?

Just one man's opinion and I don't expect people to agree with me.

I definitely know where you're coming from. Wilco and Tweedy are still great and will probably always be my favorite, but if SBS is the new direction (which it seems to be with the two new songs) rather than the delightful sidestep I told myself it was when it came out, I'll no longer be able to make the argument that Wilco is the most important band around. I actually had this thought about an hour ago and was glad to find this post.

  3. Hey, just wanted to post that I'm doing some shows in Ireland over the next couple of weeks with my pals Craig Meyer and Dan Donnelly...

we've got about 10 shows booked over the 13 days (I've got info for 5 of them and will have the rest when we get settled in Dublin). Gonna try to do a bit of blogging at my MySpace page as the merry romp wears on, so wish us luck, and if you happen to be in Ireland, hope you can find the time to perhaps pop in and further perhaps buy me a pint of Guinness as I may not be able to afford more than a pint over the course of the entire trip, what with the weak dollar-to-euro conversion and all ;)

  4. Random Candy is the name of my new band. Here's us playing seven of our songs:

We're looking to record soon, sometime in August. I shall keep the people of Someone Else's Song updated whether they like it or not.

  5. saw him in Iowa City. Was great in spite of crappy venue and sound. (some crappy room in student union). voice is magestic, loses nothing from its studio greatness. highly recommended.
