  1. I just recently read how there's a bonus track on the Loose Fur Japan import of 'Born Again In the USA' --the song is "Prelude to 110, 220, or Chelsea Walls". I know it's a live 12-13-2002, St. Ann's Warehouse, Brooklyn, NY performance...but...

Does anyone have it and can tell me a bit more about it? How long is it? Vocals? What's it like? Etc.

    THANKS!

  2. I have shows from September-ish 2003 where they played Cars Can't Escape and Jeff talks about it being available on the internet then, maybe not officially. I'm pretty sure it's purely a YHF outtake, without any tweaks on it, the version sounds almost exactly like the one Jeff and Jay listen to in the cut scene from the documentary.

Jay was given official credit on the itunes tag I have for that track, but it's possible I did that myself years ago and forgot about it.

No, don't think so. I don't think anything was being officially released in 320 in those days, some of us were still on dial up and wanted downloads faster rather than higher quality.

Thanks, Mike! And your theory about this version of "Cars" as being the same one they played back in the movie is EXACTLY what I was thinking, too. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did do a final tweak or two...perhaps.

  3. I created that discography that Analogman posted the link to. i can vouch for the accuracy of the information. If you have a source for any better information about any of the tracks, please let me know or post it on that pinned thread.

"Airline to Heaven" was credited as a "Kicking Television" outtake, thus the date in the discography. The band didn't specify which night it was from.

Yes, the "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" date is correct.

Cars Can't Escape was released on Wilcoworld.net right around the same time as Jay Bennett released his version on his "Bigger than Blue" album in April 2004. I can't remember if Jay was given partial credit for that track or not. If memory serves me correctly, most of the track is a YHF outtake with some tweaks and overdubs added in 2004. I have no idea what the bitrate was.

As far as Ian Dury goes, go here: http://www.gloriousnoise.com/articles/2009/wilco_i_wish_i_were_ian_dury.php

    and here: http://wilcobase.com/song.php?song_key=218

    and here: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/29817-ian-dury/

I've never heard of a studio version. It's more like an an unfinished song that was performed live a few times, then for whatever reason scrapped.

Ahhhhhh. Thank you so much!!!!! This really clears up A LOT. And the "Ian Dury" I have is undoubtedly the soundcheck version. Again, you solved some mysteries for me!!!!! THANKS. :thumbup

  4. Hey Folks,

I've been doing some cross-referencing with the Wilco discography and was hoping for some help...

    1. What year does the officially released version of "Cars Can't Escape" come from? It was a free mp3 download; I read: "Offered as a free Wilcoworld.net Roadcase download for owners of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" --in 2002. Is that really right? I thought it was a 'Ghost' re-recording/outtake... AND the version I have is a 160kbps mp3...is that the highest quality version?

    2. Was the live version of "Airline to Heaven" that streamed from Wilcoworld.net (from way back when) from 'Kicking Television'? The only info I have (and I'm not sure it's 100% accurate) is that it hails from 5-?-2005, The Vic, Chicago. This would fall in line with the 'Kicking Television' dates and coincides with that release. Can anyone confirm?

    3. There was another free mp3 from Wicoworld.net of "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" supposedly from 6-12-2004...but is this correct? Or from the 'Kicking Television' dates? Any more info?

    4. I know this one may have been answered already, but does anyone have information regarding the studio version of "Ian Dury"? Like what year was it recorded? Or from what album is this an outtake?

If you can help me out...THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!! B)

  5. Soooooooo, I bought the new RECORD [which comes with the CD, too] because I love vinyl but am wondering if anyone has heard of a special release of "Wilco (The Album") --like a Japan or UK edition that has a bonus track or two; better yet, another Australian Tour edition which comes with a bonus CD. Anyone?

Also, has their been any promo release(s)--like SBS's promo CD...or even a vinyl promo of some kind? I picked up the 7" of 'You Never Know', but I'm talking about promo releases.

Any help with this info is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

  6. I came across the 'Chelsea Walls' demos (thank you Owl and Bear!) but was wondering if there was really any difference between the demos and the released, official soundtrack?

Can anyone clear this up for me, please?

  7. I don't think what I'm hoping to do is all that big-a-deal. Just fixing the drop-outs. No patch work with other songs. My hope is to just have a smooth sounding listening experience. When I post, I'll be sure to identify what I've done. I see your point and agree with you. As a project, this is just for the listening experience.

  8. BARE WITH ME:

Soooooo it's always-always-always-ALWAYS bothered me that the 'YHF Demos' annnnnnnnd the 'YHD Engineer's Demos' have flaws. I suppose they're drop-outs but I've mostly thought of them as hiccups. Whenever I listen to these demos, I enjoy the music so very much and then just w~i~n~c~e when I hear the hiccup. Yes, I can be the princess and the pea.

Anyway, I've actually enrolled in a class on music editing and recording -in large part- to finally fix-up these demos. Crazy? Probably.

But I need some help from the Wilco fan base... I only have two more classes (we meet on Saturdays) and I'd love to consult and get support from my instructor--if I need that extra help.

What I could really use is some proof-listeners. If I could get some y'all to very-very-very carefully re-listen to these demos and report back as to where you hear a drop-out/hiccup, I'd appreciate it!

If you trimmed some dead-space (because there is some at times)--please don't go off these new, edited track times. Unless the dead space was at the end; then it wouldn't make a difference. I need our track times to be the same.

So if you could, report back as to which set of demos, what track, and what exact minute + second you hear the flaw. That would be GREAT.

I've already started the proof-listening, but I'd hate to accidently miss one/some and then my class is over.

I could tell you some of the ones I've already found, but I'd don't want to cloud anyone's observation.

What I can say is that I've found a total of three hiccups in the 'YHF Demos'. Are there more? And to get everyone on the right track, one of those glitches is at 0:06 in Track 14--"Heavy Metal Drummer".

There's definitely more problems with 'The YHF Engineer's Demos'.

    Can you help?

Needless to say, that when I'm all done--I'll post the finished product.

Also, if you've noticed any other problems with other non-YHF outtakes/demos, please let me know. I'll see what I can do! Please keep in mind, I'm not talking about the trimming of dead space on tracks (like on the 'A.M. Demos') --but rather real flaws that require editing.

  9. I seem to recall that when the DVD of 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart' came out, you could put the DVD into your computer and be directed to some additional extras--scenes + performances not included in the film. Or something like that. I do not believe these were the same as the bonus performances included in the special features. I think.

Does anyone know anything about this? I'm trying to make my own songtrack as a soundtrack to the film AND this could really help me out!

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. I just picked via ebay the 21 track version of 'Stay Golden, Smog' with three bonus tracks:

    Each and Every Day

    Poor Myleena

    Winter Song

Buttttttttttttttttttttt the booklet has zero information on these three...

Did I get a bad booklet?

Anyone know which albums these three songs were outtakes for? Who sings what? Anything?

    If anyone can help--THANKS!!!!!

  11. Hoping to clear up a wee mystery...

I'm aware of "Promising" showing up in three different places:

    1. 'A.M. Demos' [1994 or 1995 demo sessions for the A.M. album]

    2. 'All Over the Place' [1997 promo lp--'Being There' era]

    3. 'Chelsea Walls' soundtrack [2002]

Just wondering... Are these all the same exact version or re-recordings? Or are any the same version at all? Three different versions?

If somebody can clear this up for me, I'd appreciate it!

  12. Did a search on here and found nothing. So i hope this is new news for ya'll... Just found this after get my computer back and up from a crash and downloaded it from oink

It's 7 songs from what seem to be a soundcheck around the YHF time. raw versions of most of the stuff, them jamming, and also a foxy lady cover. There is also a great version of Were You In My Dreams.

I could host for those who don't have oink... the ones i have are mp3, but there is a flac seed up there too.

    :thumbup

    PLEASE HOST!!!!!!!!!!!!
