I do not like the Grateful Dead. I do like many of their songs, especially when covered by other artists. I like some Dead studio versions, but have no interest in live performances. I definitely respect the songwriting, the playing is a different story. It’s nice that we can freely and respectfully share opinions at Via Chicago. Thank you.

    Wrong thread? He he....

    Hamilton Leithauser and Kevin Morby

Morby dates Waxahatchee, who I've been musically obsessed with the past 2 years. Going to catch her a few times in the spring  (opening for Isbell & the 400 something) at RR I think, but also a smaller thing or 2). No idea who the other guy is but hope you had fun.

A friend offered me his extra ticket to see John Mulaney tonight. I'm not cool enough to have known who John Mulaney is, but I'm looking forward to the show!

One of my favorite stand-up guys. Hilarious. I'm sure it was great....

  4. Very bummed about Mookie Betts being traded.

I get why the management felt like they had to but I'm sure going to miss watching him play.

Seriously ditto, andI would not have loved RS ownership giving him the market value to lock him up. Betts is one in a million talent-wise, and it's going to be less enjoyable to root for the team for the next few prime Mookie years. Haven't been this bummed on a trade since Ruth. Heh.

  5. Shovels & Rope (last night. I failed in my goal of finally posting in this thread before a show.)

JUst got turned on to these folks recently. Haven't heard al ot of them, nor a lot of their originals, but love their take on "Unknown Legend" and "Patience," to name a couple.

  6. Did most people typically end up going to both shows, then.

I never did, though most of the ones I caught were school nights and I was i high school. I know people who would do both, though....Usually pretty small theaters..,,

Curious if people were bummed that the early ans me, but during these shows, the mix was great.d late shows during this period only lasted a little over an hour or so?

Yes. Caught a handful  of these "early/late"  show deals (one with Dr. John at the Beacon in NYC). It was some bullshit and a blatant way to pad their pockets. Take a regular show, cut it into two parts for two different paying crowds. Bullshit, but I still did some of them, heh.

  8. I am not familiarized with GD beyond 1991...does anybody think there is 1993 material for a box set? Any great shows out there? Thanks

I really like the Autzen 8.22.93. Extended versions of Jack Straw and Bertha as Weir had guitar issues, great Broken Arrow, really nice H->S->Franklin's....

Also, 9.22.93 is very good, with appearances by David Murray and James Cotton.

5.27.93 Cal Expo has a great Shakedown opener and Cassidy->UJB->Cassidy that is excellent.

  9. Sounds like a bunch or rumors to me.... I may look into this.

The last FM-related thing I intentionally listened to, since owning Rumours in the 70s, was Lindsey Buckingham's Under the Skin that I stumbled upon (and liked) about a decade ago.

  10. We took our kids up the Arch this past spring break -- they both did great - (6 and 9 year old's).

I was fine until my wife pointed out the fact that it was swaying in the high winds (which it is suppose to do). We didn't stay up there very much longer after that statement...

The Arch museum and movie is pretty great - OSHA workers watching it must have heart-attacks.

Did you let the kids know that it has made the Top Ten "Deadliest U.S. Landmarks" list consistently for years? Only on death, but still....

  11. I saw this. I clicked the link from the article to the GD Youtube channel with no success. I'm glad they are doing it, but would waaaaay more prefer entire shows rather than single songs from shows. Still, it's a good thing.

  12. Today started with a power outage at my school after rough storms last night. If our kitchen wasn't up and running by 9:00, we were going to dismiss. Everything came back online around 8:55.

    Ouch.

From a teacher's group I'm in on fb:

  13. I've only been to St Louie once. Enjoyed the City Museum a lot. Did the Arch too but I think its not worthy of a repeat. I'm hoping the Blues take the Cup but Boston is looking pretty damn good.

I believe 7 straight playoff wins. I'd love to see them win. 'Bout time Boston got some post-season love.

I have friends who have been Blues' season ticket's holders since the mid 80's - this playoff I have been rooting for them. They were completely robbed last game - definitely a hand pass.

Most years I am chanting 'the Blues are gonna loose', just to give them grief - but not this year.

The officiating has favored SJ throughout the playoffs (the off sides against the Avs, hand pass, etc.).

  14. I have two Math classes and one E.L.D. class that I teach per day. I always have them write the date in their notebooks/workbooks to start the day, and make sure to say the complete date  (month name, etc.) and then tell them they can abbreviate it in writing with numbers.

In 2 of the 3 classes yesterday, when speaking the date in numbers, I accidentally said "5.8.77". I was summarily corrected by two groups of 9 and 10 year olds.

  15. Today I found five morel mushrooms growing in the front yard. We've been at this house for 15 years and never found them growing here before.

Yesterday, Denver voted to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms....
