  1. Any idea what time doors open? I don't have my tickets with me.

What time are you getting in line?

"eddie" on the 9:30 forum (IMP is the promoter for this show) said likely doors at 7, Autumn Defense at 8, Jeff at 9.

I'm going alone and am not particularly picky about where I sit so I probably won't get there til around 7:30.

I've never been to a seated GA show before--I guess it's no different from going to a sold-out movie, but still seems weird.

  2. Back on topic...... I'm going to bring my gear and try to tape the DC show. Unfortunately, there's a problem with my deck where it "adds" a little sound during the quiet parts. I need to get it repaired as it didn't used to do this, but it almost sounds like tape noise, or something spinning. Very strange since it's a digital deck that records onto a compact flash card. Anyhow, I figure something is better than nothing and it's not noticible when the music is happening so I'll try to tape.

Awesome. Good luck with the taping--I'm so looking forward to this show tomorrow night.

  3. If you find out, can you please send me the info? I tried several times to get tix to that show only to be denied several times. BTW, I am NOT a scalper...

Good luck finding tickets. I noticed yesterday that the asking prices on ebay and craigslist seem to have come down substantially, so you might look there if the newly-released box office tickets don't come through.

  4. More juicy ticketing news: after some deep sleuthing, we're happy to announce that we busted some people (that is assuming you consider scalpers people) who violated our ticketing procedures for Mr. Tweedy's Dec. 7 show at Washington DC's historic Lincoln Theatre. As promised and threatened, we've revoked those purchases and will be releasing the approximately 100 tickets for sale to the public (that's you) next Monday, Dec. 6 at noon EST here. Purchasers will be limited to 2 tickets. No previous buyers for that show will be allowed to purchase again and tickets are non-transferrable and will be available only at will call with an ID. And as a review, we encourage everyone to review our ticket policies here.

    :cheers

I so love this band. It's great that they're actually doing something about scalping while holding ticket prices (somewhat) down. I wonder if anyone who paid scalpers for the revoked tickets will have trouble getting their money back.

  5. Yeah, I got nothing, despite hitting refresh every 15 seconds from 9:56 until the start of the presale. What's the use of OCD if it doesn't help me get tickets? :angry

I'll try again tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic. These GA sales in smallish venues are a scalper's paradise.

  6. REM, Radiohead & Wilco....3 veteran bands who garner much talk on this board....are all recording or finishing recording their next record. Hopefully all 3 will be out by late Spring 2011.

    1. Which of these 3 records do you look forward to most?

    2. Which do you expect to be the best?

    3. Can REM eek out one last great record after a string of so-so ones?

    1. Wilco

    2. Wilco, because R.E.M.'s recent track record ain't so great, and I still just don't get Radiohead.

    3. Hope springs eternal.

  7. I ordered a manhattan the other day when I went out with a group of coworkers and was given shit or ordering a "girly" drink. Huh.

If a Manhattan is manly enough for Fat Tony, it's manly enough for me.

What's girly are all these vodka-based cocktails that are all named variations of "-tini." Oh, and cosmos.

  8. I just recently started drinking bourbon cocktails. Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, Sazeracs and Whiskey Sours. I'm going to pick up a bottle of rye whiskey this weekend. The only brands that are stocked locally are Wild Turkey 101 Rye, Old Overholt and Jim Beam Rye. Anyone have a preference between those three? I've heard great things about Rittenhouse Rye and Sazerac Rye, but I can't find them here.

If you haven't already tried it, I'd recommend Old Granddad bottled-in-bond (the 100-proof version, not the 86). It's got more rye than most bourbons, so it makes a great cocktail mixer for drinks that traditionally call for rye.

As among the ryes you listed, I've not had any of them except Sazerac, which was quite good as a mixer as well. I don't much like rye as a sippin whiskey, though...

  9. as far as setlists go, if i'm really concerned about the set, then i probably shouldn't go to the show, b/c i won't enjoy it.

I came to this realization recently as well. I used to go to shows hoping to hear particular songs (or not to hear songs I've heard several times before), at least in part because of the message board mentality (which I share) that it's really cool to hear stuff that never gets played.

But that kind of score-keeping ended up distracting me from the show. I only get to see Wilco maybe once a year, so I should just relax and enjoy it when they're on stage. Sure, I don't need to hear Walken or ITMWLY *again*, but those five minutes are still better than most of the rest of my life. Better to just sing along to Jesus etc. and hope they play Candyfloss next time.

  10. The Palladia website has a list of shows that have been on (don't know if it's exhaustive but if not it's close) and there's no Wilco on there. They don't have a lot of unique content--they show the same (mostly crappy) stuff over and over.

It's possible that the Pines show could have been aired on MTV Europe or something, but as far as I can tell it's never been aired here.

I would think that the band would have made some sort of announcement if it was going to air...

  11. I see these as my options, (my version of iTunes is 9.2.1 (4))

    Controls >

    Shuffle>

    By Songs

    By Albums

    By Groupings

I don't know what "By Groupings" means.

And I'm not sure how else to refine the shuffle options.

This is how I would shuffle all Beatles songs: Input "Beatles" into the search field, so that only Beatles songs show up on the screen. Then I hit Shuffle and Play, and it plays every song in random order. No repeats.

My understanding of "groupings" is that it allows you to tag songs with the same grouping, and then when you shuffle, it will play all the songs in a group together.

So for example, you can tag "Red-Eyed and Blue" and "I Got You" so that they'll always play together, just like God and Tweedy intended.

At least that's what I'm hoping--they haven't come up yet on my shuffle.

  12. Ah, the 90s...the last time I actually knew what was going on in mainstream pop music. Those were the good old days. I pretty much never listen to comemrcial radio anymore. The 90s pop rock era was the last time commercial radio (at least in DC) held any appeal.

But then MTV went to full-time reality trash TV instead of videos, WHFS went ranchero, and before long I had no idea what the kids these days are listening to.

    Sigh.
