  1. Wait a minute here... How is it possible to have a preferred song on an album in which you have never Ever been more disappointed?

I didn't say it was worthless. However, I've never been let down by an album so much as in this case - and how dull it was even after 15 listens. 2 or 3 decent tunes on there, regardless.

  2. Wow, loads of actual hate for You Never Know, easily my preferred song of that album and only one of about two or three I even like. Having said that, the performance of it is horribly flat. I've never been more disappointed in an album by anyone, ever than this one.

  3. I prefer the latter review to be honest, at least he didn't use the term "American Radiohead" which nullifies any good intention, frankly.

Jeff could easily have got the audience on it's feet if he'd just asked us to, seen it happen with other bands many times.

  4. Anyway, some thoughts on the gig itself... all-seated was nice for a while, though I kind of expected Jeff to get the crowd on it's feet at some point. I was disappointed when the audience sat down again for the encore and I wasn't going to do it alone. Unsurprisingly it was a relatively subdued gig compared to last year's superior Barrowlands show, I haven't been following the setlists recently but am I right in thinking the band are largely through with Summerteeth? There were lots of comical requests for ELT which would have easily been my highlight of the night, though Jeff made it very clear it wasn't going to happen. Quite frankly I think I've had my fill of IATTBYH and Poor Places live, even if Wilco clearly haven't, though it was good to hear a healthy amount of songs from the new album and not too many from the previous one, which still baffles me.

I guess they didn't think Spiders was appropriate for this particular show (EDIT: just found out it's not been played recently), but that's twice in a row we've missed out (Glasgow, that is) which is a shame as it's a song I don't think I could ever get sick of.

  5. There are a handful of UK dates up now for October, and they go on presale tomorrow! The Roundhouse in London looks like a really cool place.

Do you have any info on the presale?

  6. sorry, avoided this thread thinking it was band spam.

Ah well, it could be seen that way. I posted it on here, the Wedding Present and Teenage Fanclub forums, and left it as that for the 'spamming', save for emailing bloggers, etc. Don't want to piss anyone off. Still, I can't get over how good the response has been all round, a good reason not to end it all! Thank you again.

Hope no one minds me posting this here, it can always drop off the page if you so feel! If any of you like power pop bands like The dB's, Big Star, Flamin' Groovies, Elvis Costello and other things like Daniel Johnston, XTC, The Beach Boys, 'Summerteeth'-era Wilco, then there's a chance you might like the first album by The Martial Arts, titled 'Your Sinclair'. It's only been released on iTunes in the UK, and on CD in Scandinavia. I'm pleased with how it turned out, and I'd rather you heard it than it just sat there, so I guess it will be up until a couple of days after Christmas. Here's the bundle, including artwork and credits, as a .RAR file:-

I'll post a link to a .ZIP file when it's uploaded. Hope some of you like it!

  8. Would many of you be interested in hearing Wilco remixed in 5.1 surround sound? I've had a surround DVD player for years, but only got my first DVD-audio disc of Talking Heads' 'Fear Of Music' and it sounds amazing. Can you imagine the layers of 'Summerteeth' in surround or, wait for it, YHF (sorry, I've just come) arranged in this way? It's never going to happen now, but a dream situation for me would be for SBS to include a bonus disc with a 5.1 remix... now provided you have the right gear, there would be NO excuse for hanging on to your crappy stream-ripped downloads then.

  9. To the people who say Wilco don't do singles:

"Box Full of Letters", "I Must Be High", "Casino Queen", "Outtasite", "Monday", "Hotel Arizona", "Can't Stand It", "A Shot in The Arm", "Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway(Again)", ""Kamera", "War on War", "Jesus Etc;", "Heavy Metal Drummer", "I'm a Wheel" and "Theologians" were all released as promo singles.

Sky Blue Sky will definitely have a single of some sorts.

...and the fact that 'I'm Always In Love' and 'ELT' weren't just implies madness.

  10. tweedy_cains.jpg pretty blurry huh? and not really worth the grief i've caught for taking it. lesson learned!!! still had a great time though and will go down in my books as truly a great night. the tulsa world reviewed the show and made mention of all the talking and rowdiness. i guess i was kind of insulated from it by being up front and kind of in my own world being that close to jeff.

Don't apologise.... it's not like you actually did anything wrong.

  11. Bit of an 'exclusive', i think, as I can't find any online info about it elsewhere...

    Hi there,

Is the "Geoff Tweedy" booked for late Novemeber, really Jeff Tweedy from Wilco, solo? Because I can't find any online info about it, or from the wilco page. Hope you can clear this up.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    HOORAY!!!

EDIT:- Gah! They've just emailed me back to tell me that he hasn't been confirmed yet after all and have taken him off the listings in that blog. But I have a feeling it will be announced pronto-ish.

  12. Yeah, I do it too.

If you're wondering why we have a song called 'Summer Tweed', it was a working title that got out of hand (Teenage Fanclub are often guilty of this). The very rough demo was a bit 'Always In Love' (or so I thought), but it came out more Big Star-meets-Bowie in the end - so I claim.
