  1. on here maybe...

while i can't say i've been into him since '97, i first saw Bowl of Fire in '00...

anywho, who gives a shit about "relevance", great music is great music, no matter what. plenty of people don't "get" Dylan either, that doesn't make him any less amazing...

your arguments are tired and without little thought or merit behind them and i'd imagine that most anyone who reads them just laughs and finds you to be a troll for the most part. i think it's funny that out of ALL the music talked about on here, that Andrew Bird of all people gets called out by some idiot as "all hype" :rotfl

Relevance has nothing to do about the music, yes his music may be interesting, but he has nothing to say of substance. His lyrics are shallow and obtuse and show no relevance to the world we live in.. The comparison to Dylan is a weak one on your part because he was and for the most part remains relevent, which has to do with the lyrics not the music.

You like to throw personel insults around which is ok, because you can hid behind a forum post. You as demonstrated by your comments above have a very limited understanding of the difference between music and lyrics. My suggestion to you is maybe taking a music 101 class at a college near you and maybe after completing that course you could carry on an intelligent conversation regarding this topic. Until then you should refrain from responding about something that is beyond your intellegence.

  2. I liked Whip Smart a lot, and probably still have a copy of it floating around somewhere. Exile in Guyville was very good, but it sounded like she was trying too hard to be edgy and over the top at times. The s/t album is the poppy one, right? Decent pop songs, a little polished for my taste. The song about blowjobs is nice. :) No reason to hate it, IMO, unless you're going the sellout route, which isn't something that's ever bugged me all that much.

Exile in Guyville us her best when looked at from a lyrics perspective. I thought the music on on her self titled album was more consistent but at times veered into the style over substance category.

  3. YOU think his music goes nowhere, i think Armchairs is one of the years best record (would be my #1 if not for Boxer) and that his melodies are incredibly catchy and infectious, his lyrics clever & witty, and his voice to die for...

    yeah, that's pretty dumb Ben

did you think nobody would check? :monkey

I should add I agree on your opinion of the Boxer and The National in general tremendous is the only word that comes to mind when discussing the band and their musical output to date. I had never heard of them until I saw them talked about on this board, so I gave them a listen and wow!!!

I have no idea who Ben is.

  5. Better voice than most.

    Lyrically better than most.

    More musically talented than most.

I'd love to say I'm over-hyping him, but you can't over-hype the truth.

That's not to say every song is pure gold, but seriously, why enter this topic if only to be a troll?

I think Mr. Walker is extremely difficult to listen to, hence the reason you won't see me posting in a topic regarding his stuff.

Not troll just expressing an opinion, as you are when you defend your reasons for defending him

  6. You just backed up my point overly hyped here and other outlets, which is not deserved considering his music goes nowhere, round and round with no exhibited purpose. Yes he may be talented and have all sorts of ideas but this does not equal a enjoyable listen ie Scott Walker's output in recent years. I call it the Pitchfork mentality.

  7. How can one rate SBS as one of the best of the 2000's. It has not even been released yet, most of us first heard the complete finished version only a few weeks ago. To qualify as an album of the decade one must keep on going back to that album month after month year after year, ala London Calling etc. SBS may turn out to be an album of the decade, but any talk of this now is just plain shortsighted and biased.

  8. Awesome second post. I'm breathless in anticipation of the third.

Here is the deal my friend. I joined this board because of my love for Wilco and the great fans I have met over the years who I have come to realize appreciate good music period. I buy a CD from a performer who has been a favorite of mine for years, but would not have recomended it in this type of venue if I did not think it was just a great CD. This was my sole intention if you thought there was any other motive then you are very much mistaken.
