  1. Theres no acounting for credibility but, haven't the counting crows made a humble profession of autumn?

I mean, you must concede that they've nailed that atmosphere...

Sufjan's "Michigan" Album is great for autumn. But I think "The Rake" is his most elaborate autumn song.

Devendra Banhart, Tagan and Sara, early Rilo and Nick Drake have all had very autumny bodies of work.

  2. Catharsis is good I think, if done in a way thats not indulgent or silly, but progressive and helpful.

I'm going through a break-up now, and things are just starting to get real turbulent.

On a bright note I managed to compose one of my best mixes in recent memory to comeserate our disunion...

    1.Beck-It's All In Your Mind

2.Yo La Tengo-Tears Are In Your Eyes

    3.The Clientele-Monday's Rain

4.Flaming Lips-Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell

    5.Wilco-HummingBird

    6.Mercury Rev-Moving On

    7.Amiee Mann-Wise Up

    8.Badly Drawn Boy-The Shinning

    9.Broken Social Scene-Lover's Spit

    10.Bob Dylan-Most Of The Time

...I was once a fluent praticioner of linear continuity but I mislaid it somewhere and now...

Well, maybe I'm getting my mix talent back.

ANYWAY are there any shots from the gallery?? any song sugestions??

    Thanks for your help.

  3. I just started working at best buy (media retail, but I'm mostly stationed at the cd's) and we get a store cost + 5% discount, which esentially means I'll pay whatever the store markup is on most inventory, which I'm told is better then a fixed percentage, AND we just added the Rapture and TV On The Radio to our "Find 'Em First" Discount list, (Which now also includes M.Ward) so thursday when my shift ends, I'll be able to pick up each of these albums for about 3 dollars a piece. It's also rumured we're going to be adding Lupe fiasco and The Decemberists when they drop.

But yeah, the "Find 'Em First" tags this week are like all $7.95, So if you want to check out TV On The Radio. M.Ward or the Rapture on the cheap you should go to best buy.

  4. if i were to pick "greatest" this would be much different, but these are my faves...

    1. Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers

    2. GZA - Liquid Swords

    3. The Fugees - The Score

    4. Biggie - Ready to Die

    5. Outkast - Southernplayalisticaddilacmusik

    6. Ghostface - Pretty Toney

    7. Raekwon - Cuban Linx

    8. Jay-Z - the Black Album

    9. Outkast - Stankonia

    10. Dr. Dre - the Chronic

You know, I seriously need to pick up "Pretty Tony", The only solo Ghost Face album I have is "FishScale" which I love.

In fact, It's definately one of my top 5 albums of this year.

Also, On threads like these, I don't think "Black Album" gets enough credit.Oft overshadowed by Jay-Z's earlier masterpieces, but It's my 11th favorite. And there is absolutely no denying that "99 Problems" has to be one of the ten greatest hip hop songs of all time.

    So great pick there. :cheers

  5. #1: God Only Knows.

    I respectfully disagree. :thumbdown

    Me too.

Pitchforks lists are usally really intresting, if often debateable, but this one was just dubious.

It's like they took every other major publications "Greatest Sixties Songs" list, shuffled the placements of some of the selections, and just kind of ommited the third most obvious choice (Example, "Like A Rolling Stone", "Visions Of Johanna", But no "the times they are a'changin")

The theme from "Docter Who" was pretty damn high....

  6. Is this officially out yet? If not, when's it coming?

Oct. 3rd says the website...I haven't really heard any of it yet.

But Picaresque was really great. If they could strip away some of the pesky gimmicks that plagued "Picaresque" colin could really craft something relavent.

  7. Pitchfork has recently started there 200 greatest songs of the 60s feature.

They have planed to dispense a new 50 or so entries every day till Friday when they unleash their top 20.

Care to wager who will make it to that plateau??

Keeping in mind the snarky, hipster, sovereign, argumentative and oft obscured tendencies of Pitchfork, Let

  8. I've been trying to make music for two years now. I get ocasional positive reinforcement and ocasional cynisism. I would be really grateful if anyone who reads this checks out my posted songs Here

If you like what you hear please e-mail me and I'll send you a free copy of my exssesive 21 song demo for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Oh, and if it's not a problem please leave a comment on my audiostreet page.

The untitled track is regarded as my best output by a few people. I disagree but...

Thank you for helping the black man out.

  9. I think "You Forgot In People" is great, I'm actually planing to make a movie revolving around it as a contest entry where every song would be acompanied by a different inspiring visual story piece.

    Very high concept and dubious.

Anyway, I think Self Titled is on a Par with you forgot it, in fact, Self Titled is a lot more lush.

  10. I rate 'Cold Roses' above 'Heartbreaker'. In fact, I rate JCN on the same line as 'Heartbreaker'. There's some classic songs there, but there's just a few which make me skip to the next track, and I don't normally keep listening after 'Shakedown on 9th St'. 'Cold Roses' is one that I listen all the way through most of the time. There aren't songs that I skip every time, and altough I may skip them every now and then, I don't hate them.

I always kinda thought that "Shakedown On 9th Street" fucked up the continuity of "Heartbreaker".

It still sounds displaced and irelivent. I think even Ryan Jeffersion Starship Double Album Adams would agree that that particular cut was very disposeable...

    I don't know...

I feel like "Heartbreaker" is Ryan's most (and I think only) critically lauded album.

Shit, didn't pitchfork even give it like a 9.0??

And said logic agrees with my own perspective so...I don't know...Maybe everyone should post thier favorite Ryan Adams album and explain why to get the actual street census

  11. I wouldn't call Cold Roses or JCN mediocre - i think most people would agree that they are very good. 29 is admittedly the weaker of the three. In fact, i think Cold Roses is superior to Heartbreaker, but i suspect i am in the minority on that opinion. most bands/artists struggle to put out just one "very good" record in their whole career.

if he released 9 songs every three years, people would complain that he is not prolific enough. so you can't win.

You know what, actually, I've always thought "Love Is Hell pts.1 and 2" was classic. But I'm always sort of hesitent to admit that, but, you're very right, "Cold Roses" is exceptionally good. I just don't think it has the stark emotional weight that made "Heartbreaker" so essential.
