  1. When I went to see them in Davenport in June, the Adler was supposed to be a no cameras allowed venue. But I put it in my pocket and got no drama at all. Obviously you can't do that with a large camera, but check the venue website for their restrictions.

The band does allow photography (with no flah), so you could print off the band policy and take it to the show to show the people at the entrance if you get any grief.

  2. Oh yeah, I saw the guy just staring. He actually cut in front of us after the rest of his group was up there, and I was like "what are you doing?" and he said "I'm just going over by those guys" and I said "don't go in front of that short girl (who was actually first in line to get in), if you wanted to be up here you should have been here at 5:00".

Once he didn't even respond to that, I figured he was just wasted. I have no idea how you can enjoy the show in that state. He probably doesn't even remember what is likely to be one of the best shows he'll attend.

Otherwise, no doubt that Wilco fans are the best. I talked to a whole bunch of cool people last night.

  3. Oh yeah, I saw you there. I really wanted to get some sweet Pat rockin' out pics, but I failed for the most part. He's got Pete Townshend rock moves.

The only thing that was pretty lame was when all those kids suddenly came up to the front right before Wilco's set started, I thought skulls were going to need some busting. But, I think for the most part they didn't cut in front of many of the diehards that were there right when the gates opened (all 10 of us or so). They did pull that cord off the front of the stage, and they also dumped a beer that got landed on a guy who I had talked to quite a bit's pants. I really was hoping that kind of garbage wouldn't happen at a Wilco show, but, it was GA, so there's always some of that nonsense in that situation. Nothing could ruin seeing my favorite band from the front row, though, not even a collection of drunk morons.

I thought the weather was awesome. It was brutal when we were waiting for the show to start (which resulted in a $45 sweatshirt purchase from the merch stand), though, but once some windblockers arrived to the left of us, it was good, and for the most part once the sun went down the wind let up a little. It definitely was surreal, to see all that mist in the background, especially when they had the blue lighting going on. Totally a one of a kind experience, with one of a kind Duluth weather.

  4. This was an awesome show. This was the second time for me this summer (first was Davenport, IA), and this blew that show away. I somehow lucked into being front and center, even after getting there shortly before 5. I was totally amazed that there wasn't more of a line, but hey, I'll take it. I'll have pics up sometime today. I went crazy and took a shitload, figuring, "how often am I going to be in this location?". It made my four hour drive and pulling into my driveway at 3 AM very worth it.

Low was also very good, and it was nice that they got a respectful audience in their hometown, because in Davenport the exact opposite was the case. I was really looking forward to seeing Richard Swift, but Low made up for it as much as they could.

  5. Elliott Smith - "Georgia, Georgia"

    georgia georgia

    it's been many miles

since i've seen your fallen smile

    close up and personal

    your arsenal of excuses

    you never told her

when you walked out on this vanished shoulder

with your veins all full of beer

thinking well at least now everything is clear

    oh man

    what plan

    suicide

it's just not that much different from my own affair

    always cussing and crying

    how about if you

    tell me something new

tell me what will make you happy

    oh you

    so deserve to be

    there were protests and contests

    actions to cop

i want it all to stop

three weeks ago you were all grace and charm

and now i know it was just a false alarm

    georgia georgia

    i can't understand your sins

    you have no forgiveness

    no attention left to pay

    the quiet way you leave

    and just forget it all

    just takes my breath away

how's that supposed to make me feel?

yeah, well, how'm I suppossed to feel?

  6. I pretty much go back and forth between Summerteeth and YHF as my favorite. The only constant in my "ranking" of the albums is A.M. in last.

I like Jay Bennett's presence quite a bit on Summerteeth.

  7. Come on, someone else had to have gone to this show!

Holy shit was it amazing. They were absolutely explosive, I can't fathom how a band can take 6 years off and come back sounding like they never left.

QOTSA were excellent, too. Probably the best concert I've ever attended, when you throw the entire experience into the mix (mudslides, rain, etc.).

    Here's my pics:

  8. Okay, I'm going to the Duluth show on the 14th, which is general admission, as I'm sure most know.

I live in central Wisconsin, and according to Google Maps, the drive to Bayfront Festival Park is 4 hours and 50 minutes. I am going to meet up with my friend, who actually bought 12 tickets. But he lives in St. Paul and said he's possibly going to get there at 9:00 AM (it is a 7:30 show). Now, say I was to get there at 2:00 PM or maybe a little earlier, would it be alright if he set up lawn chairs for myself and the person that I'm going to the show with, so I could sit by them? Or would this be frowned upon, thus making me look like a major dick?

I really want to be near the front (who doesn't, I understand) but I also really don't feel like getting up at 4 AM to drive out there, and then drive back home that night as I plan to do and get home at 4 AM or (likely later). Any guidance would be appreciated (and does anyone know if you can smoke at that place?).

    Thanks.

  9. Honestly, I would say to start with "Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers".

But if you're going to pick between the Gator and "Boxer", I think I would lean "Alligator". So many amazing songs - "Karen", "All the Wine", and "Mr. November", especially.

I also agree with the poster who said that "Boxer" is a more cohesive album. They didn't put the token rocker on there, but it's still one of the best five albums to come out this year so far.

  10. another collection of straightforward country/guitar driven rock would bore me to death.

I don't know if it's possible to be bored to death twice, but that would be the case if they did another album like that one.

  11. This show is up at etree now, I'd assume from the person who said earlier in this thread that they taped it. I haven't DL'd it yet, but I'm about to. Hopefully another source shows up, though thanks for this one.

  12. He's sucha badass too with his windmills and throwing morracas

He definitely has the best rock moves in the band. I just missed having a badass picture of him in Davenport during "The Late Greats" when he turned his back and held up the guitar at the end of the song.

Extra credit given for also having the best head of hair.
