  1. Thanks for the link. I'm not sure I read that one when it came out.

In the above quote, Nels was referring to his ex-wife D.D., who he mentions several times in the Watt tour diary.

Thanks for the clarification - I will have to check out this tour diary.

  2. I don't want to dig into anyone's private personal matters, but Nels mentions his wife several times in his diary from the tour on which he met Carla (see below). I've read every interview or article I've come across on Nels since the late '90s, and I've never once seen him or anyone else state that he and Carla were married.

I don't know one way or the other, and it doesn't matter either way, but I just found it odd that it was presented as fact.

His tour diary from Mike Watt's Shine Box tour is worth a read (as is his diary from Watt's Clam Blow tour):

    Excerpt:

I keep thinking about Carla and the Fibbers. Listened to the album as I drove today maybe someday I'll comprehend why the opener, "Lilybelle", almost causes me to break down every time I hear it. This morning it was the usual goosebumps, but this time accompanied by the welling up of tears (which has happened a couple of times before). What's the deal? Only later did I sit in the car outside the Mo' 6 and inspect the lyrics which actually are quite intense, with an air of confrontation and tragedy. But it was/is simply the music that destroys me. Godgiven moments.

    Time to call Darling Wife.

Maybe I took an interview too literally, or maybe he was talking about someone else. Come to think of it, I don't know a ton about Nels' personal life - maybe he was married to someone for 17 years and then met Carla? I read the following and assumed he was talking about Carla:

John: What are your feelings on dating? Does being on the road a lot make relationships difficult?

Nels: Oh god. I have never been much of a dating person. I didn't do it as a young man -- and I was married for 17 years, until 10 years ago

    Here is the full interview:

  3. We don't really talk about band members' private lives on here, out of respect to them. I think it would be nice if we kept it that way.

To play devil's advocate, I don't know why everyone is so quick to put the kibosh on any talk of people's private lives on this board. I read a Nels interview where he was discussing his divorce - if he can talk about it during interviews why should we not talk about here? Isn't this an open forum for discussion about Wilco? Already this discussion about Carla led to an interesting story.

There are obviously at least 2 people wanting to discuss this - why should they be shot down?

  4. It says pre-sale for the Tower tomorrow... but doesn't say what time they go up... anyone have an idea when?

  5. i was at a Chuck Klosterman book signing in NYC at a Barnes and Nobles last thursday and during the Q&A i told him how much i enjoyed is wilco article in his recent publication Chuck Klosterman IV. i thought he did a real nice job with a difficult story...i then proceeded to ask him what he thought of Sky Blue Sky. he was quick to answer that it was his favorite record by Wilco

Thanks for posting this. I actually am a big fans of his and love what he has written about Wilco. Now that he's kind of a sports writer I was wondering how I would find out what he thought of Sky Blue Sky. What was his reading for? Does he have something coming out? I have been to a bunch of his readings and know they are always entertaining.

  6. Also, for people that went on Monday, I thought the sound at Hammerstein was way better. Way better.

It didn't matter that much, and I am not complaining, but if I were to complain about anything, it would be that the sound mix at Warsaw was less than ideal.

Thank you for saying that. I caught them 3 times over the last week, but Hoodoo Voodoo is one of my faves and I am feeling pretty sad that i didn't get tickets to warsaw right about now.

So, even if it's not true... thanks for saying it.

  7. He's clearly already gotten (and rejected) an offer from misslaura.

Hey, there's no shame to my game. If I hadn't gotten tickets through Ticketmaster by some strange stroke of good luck I might throw myself into the running (actually, probably not. I would just pay $100/ticket to a scalper). There are no good restaurants in that neighborhood though.

  8. Have an extra, need a date to Wilco show at Hammerstein - $1 (Greenwich Village)

Below is my original post from a week ago. There seems to be some confusion so this is the new disclaimer. I have an extra ticket to the Wilco show at the Hammerstein and am totally serious about trying to find a date, though please take this entire ad with a mound of salt (especially the casual encounters bit). This is all about the music, though I am a newly single dude and am certainly up for meeting a cool lady.

This post may belong in Casual Encounters, though there is nothing casual about Wilco. I have an extra ticket to the Hammerstein show. My former date will not be able to make the show. I am in search of a new one.

Judging by the price that these tickets are going for (fairly unfortunate) and the fact that I have been waiting to see this band since I fell in love with them while living abroad in South America, I am reserving the right to be rather picky. Below are a few requirements

  9. No offense, but that sounds a bit more like throwing your hands up and giving in. You can lead a perfectly comfortable life without compromising your ideals and ethical beliefs. Of course, everyone else will think you're crazy, but then, who cares?

Of course Courtney would say such a thing

  10. Did you get yours through the fan club? or tm?

Ticketmaster. But don't they all go through Ticketmaster in some form? You still paid some crazy $10 fee per ticket anyway, right? Doesn't that mean that Ticketmaster will be mailing your tickets?

  11. Wow, that is insanity. I think this may be where I draw the line. Sleeping in on Saturday and having a day off is what I spend my entire week looking forward to. When I spoke to the box office at Irving Plaza they said that handing out vouchers and having people fill them out takes a few hours also. I think I would actually rather go up against scalpers and have the opportunity to overpay for a ticket than wait for 10 hours to possibly get turned away in the end anyway.

  12. I actually called the box office at Irving Plaza and they told me that there will be an equal amount of tickets/vouchers at each location. That doesn't mean that it's true - just what they said. What time are people thinking of showing up?

  13. It's usually available for download via torrent from places like UKNova. I'll be out of the country at the time and will have spotty Internet access, but I'll download and share if I can.

Thanks. That would be awesome. I'm not on the torrent train yet.

  14. Ok, let's all move on with our lives and discuss what time we need to arrive on Saturday morning and which venue seems like the best place to be. I want to go to this show as much as anybody, but I am not sure I have it in me to show up at the crack of dawn and sit on the sidewalk for 6 hours.

What time are people thinking of arriving? What seems like the better place to be - Warsaw or Irving?

  15. I definitely did not get such an email.

I have emailed the store asking if they can combine shipping as I am being penalised for getting in early, but no response so far.

Has anyone heard back from Musictoday about this? I have e-mailed them asking about upgrading my package and still not heard back. It's annoying though - why are some people getting punished for ordering early?

  16. I guess nobody here finds "Someday Soon" as moving as I do? I am a girl though, so trust me - put that one on. It's sweet and it's a little more newby friendly since it's upbeat and not as cryptic as some of the other amazingly heartwrenching tracks people are listing.
