Post of the day.
Hilarious!!
-
what if i started a thread that said "i like Wilco?" could that be a new thread or would someone post a response with links to every other thread ever created?
-justin
Yeah I started a thread a while back about favorite Wilco lyrics and was immediately directed to several threads in the past that discussed the same thing.
Needless to say I don't post here much anymore.

I've got a Blues Deville 4x10 that I use in my band. It's a great amp, but It's not great for low volume practice because the volume knob is extremely sensitive, and it's either too quiet or too loud. I think the Hot Rod Deville's are the same way, both 4x10 and 2x12. I would aslo recommend a Blues Jr. It's a great practice amp and still plenty of juice if you plan to play out.
Yeah I'd have to agree. Blues Jr is the way to go. Not necessary to get a 2x12...would be too much power for what you're looking for.

Why you got to break my heart, junebug??
I actually just got the lap steel today, I bought a supercheap one for $80. It sounds a zillion times better than I expected, actually. I played one of my guitars in an open dobro-type tuning for a long time, and didn't like the sound half as much as the C6 I put this lap in. I think I like how the two- and three-note chord frags sound through the amp / with more sustain. I didn't try lap for a long time because I didn't really get into that dobro...
I think this will be good enough for what I'm doing at the moment. Personally I'm a big fan of the Bucky Baxter school of steel anyway, just subtle swells here and there, not too many runs burning up and down the neck. Trying to add in some flavor to recordings, not land a job playing professional or anything like that. So ... even if the lap isn't quite the same tone as pedals, it is actually looking to work out. Thanks again for all the advice here.
Sorry!!
If anything I would try a lap steel with more than 6 strings before you check out a pedal steel. For me the extra strings were the biggest difference. For some reason I am very thrown off by that.
Just hate to see someone make the same mistake I did!! And actually, the lap steel is an awesome instrument!!
-
I think I may do exactly this, thanks for the advice!
I think that they are two completely different beasts.
I play the dobro and lap steel. A few years ago I sprung for a beginner model pedal steel...very cool stuff. bought used from Bobbe at:
I was able to "play" it a bit but with pedals and knee levers and more strings it was a whole different ballgame. I never had the time to devote to it and wound up selling it on craigslist.
Cool instrument, but a completely different beast to a lap steel. I cannot stress that enough!

Mind you, don't share this, cause I know tapers get mad if this happens, same with people here.
Sure thing.
Why is that though?

Anyone happen to have mp3's of this show????
Finally got the mp3's...BIG thanks to Ryann7739!!
I just can't believe all the talking picked up on the recorder. I mean...you're at a freaking Wilco show...stop yapping and enjoy the music!?!?! If yer gonna open your mouth, SING!!
I just don't understand why people go to shows to just talk the whole time.

By the way there's a bunch of short video clips from that show...not sure who took them...
But if you search for "wilco cary, NC" in Google Video you will find them.

Second row, Section 3! What a blast! We took our kids, and they danced the whole show. When you see your 8 year old pogoing at a Wilco show , and your 11 year old singing her lungs out on Jesus, etc., that's when you know you did alright as a parent. The looks on their faces when the band took the stage for the first time was priceless.
I'm not sure if it was you guys...but my wife and I saw a family with a boy and a girl (looked to be around 8 and 11) and we thought that was the coolest thing!
More power to you guys. It's nice to see a family share something like that.
I can't wait until my little girl is old enough to dig Wilco!

I am embarressed to say it was my first Wilco show. I had tickets TWICE before but could never get to the shows.
Saw Tweedy solo once in Raleigh too...
But man I can't believe I waited so long to see them!! What a great, great performance.
The wife and I were dancin like crazy and singing at the top of our lungs!!
I requested Pot Kettle Black and they KILLED it! Awesome. And to hear Red Eyed and Blue? My god I love that song...play it on my piano all the time.
All I have to say is I will never again miss a Wilco show. What a great time!! Great crowd, great venue, sound was very good and the set was amazing.
I have some pics that I'll upload ASAP.
Oh...and Misunderstood was also amazing. LOVE the ending...had the whole crowd screaming! I was proud to say I've heard the live version enough to know when the Nothing's were over. LOL

KILLER, KILLER, KILLER SHOW!!!
Highlights for me were Pot Kettle Black and the stuff from Being There at the end...Red Eyed and Blue, Got You & Outtasite.
Awesome show!!
Although my wife sat next to this guy that smelled so horribly it almost ruined her night. Almost. LOL

FYI...Watch out for the fuzz tonight after the show...

Quick question...
Ticket time says 7:00.
My wife and I are thinking about coming from the Charlotte area after work. Problem is, we wouldn't get there until around 7:45 at the earliest. What time will Wilco likely come on?
I went to Ben Folds at this venue recently, and was really impressed with the venue.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Good question. On Bon Iver's myspace site it says he's going on @ 8...which would lead me to believe we won't see Wilco until 9 or 10. But the show says doors @ 5, show @ 7.

You are on a Wilco message board. Most of the people here are Wilco fans. Some are larger than others.
Yeah man, I'm aware!
Just thought I would make some conversation. Thought I'd hear about maybe someone that named their kid Jeff or something...
But we can talk about who is the largest person if you guys like to take things literally.

Good to see some quality responses.

OK, I love pretty much everything Tweedy sings...but i have some favorites...
"The ashtray says you've been up all night"
"He hits snooze twice before he dies"
"I wonder why we listen to poets, when nobody gives a fuck"
"When the devil came, he was not red, he was chrome and he said come with me"
I know there's a ton more great lyrics...I'll think of more later!
-
I'm probably not the biggest Wilco fan out there...but my wife and I did name our black lab "Wilco"!
(We also had the DJ at our wedding play many, many Wilco tunes...)
What about y'all??
-
Great that means I'll hear it twice!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hey as long as I hear Ashes, Pot Kettle Black or Hell is Chrome, life will be great.
-
I was just playing that for my daughter on the way home.
Absolutely LOVE the live version of that song. Might be my favorite Wilco tune of all time...that and Ashes...
-
Sorry, didn't mean to come off like that. I have a colorful vocabulary. But it is only one song, that they never use to play. I'm sure a lot of people still haven't seen it live. Including me.
How about we combine our powers to wish it into reality for Jacksonville and you'll have a better chance of not hearing in Cary.
LOL, it's cool!
You got it man.
I will vote my @ss off for it to be played at the Jacksonville show!
Back to the original topic...John does do a KILLER job with the background vocals!
-
we better get a Hell is Chrome at Cary!
I second that!!!!
"Come...with me..."
-
The guy sings one fucking song, sometimes, and only as of recently. Let him enjoy the spotlight. I hope they play it tomorrow.
Take it easy there man.
Music is subjective you know, it's OK if not everybody likes it.
And I'm not going to dig it just so he can enjoy the spotlight!
Wilco (the album). Still into it?

I hate to say this because I've been a big fan of Wilco's album by album "progress" so far...but I'm not diggin this new album. I'm hoping it'll grow on me, or maybe it'll take some live versions to win me over.
I know it's too early to really tell, and I've only listened to it 4 or 5 times, but I'm just not lovin it...yet. And I agree I hear some Steely Dan in there, but I find myself wishing it wasn't.
