  1. You're probably right, i guess I was basing my opinion based on the Los Angeles pre-sale/ticket master thing. I couldn't get in to either, with 3 friends trying as well, but I had hedged my bet and got into the San Diego presale and it all worked out.

Anyway, now that i know that there are AAA BBB CCC seats in front of me....I'm sad :'(

I still can't figure out this seating thing exactly.

But, from comparing the two seating charts and the pictures, it looks like the AAA, BBB, and CCC seats aren't shown in the pictures. Instead, there's a big black riser/ stage extension thing and the seating starts at row DDD. This is going off the number of rows and where the handicapped sections are.

Does anyone know if there are AAA, BBB, or CCC seats for these shows?

  2. I've never been to the Auditorium, so maybe someone who has can help me.

I'm looking at the seating chart and the pictures on the Aud. website, but they don't seem to be matching up.

Are the Orchestra Pit seats (AAA, BBB, CCC) not visible in those pics? Do they go where the big, black stage extension thing is?

  3. I just checked the musictoday website in anticipation of tomorrow morning, and they have ticket prices listed at $37.50. It'll be close to $50 per after tacking on the fees. Being a poor college student, I don't know if I'll be able to afford drop $100 (plus parking, dinner, etc.) for my girlfriend and I to go see them :(

  4. Critical theory was my specialty in college, so I definitely agree with you, and would add that I totally believe in the function--and yes, even the artistry--of thoughtful, knowledgeable criticism.

For me, though, there's really only one real reason to read criticism, and that's to discover rich observations about a work that I might have overlooked. As Pauline Kael said, "We read critics for the perceptions, for what they tell us that we didn't fully grasp when we saw the work. The judgments we can usually make for ourselves."

Exactly! And that's why I come to internet message boards to discuss music and movies. You're going to get new perspectives that may make you think about a piece of work in a completely new light.

Secondly, the reason I'm not too keen on David Fricke is because any single one of us can do his job. Get an advance copy of _____ new album... Listen to it a few times.... And say yay, or nay. That goes for any reviewer of any magazine. I will admit that Mr. Fricke has, in the past, written great articles, and I'll also admit that he has a great ear for writing, so-to-speak. But just because he loves/dislikes an album does not mean that we all agree with him.

There's a little bit more to "good" criticism than just saying whether you like it or not.

  5. Hey all, first time poster. Normally wouldn't be posting about this (as I'm not a huge drinker) but ironically I'm a student here at U of I. I'm assuming you guys won't be wanting to go to a disgusting college bar...some of the nicer ones are:

    Legends

    522 E Green St, Champaign

    Murphy's Pub

    604 E. Green Street, Champaign

    Firehaus

    708 S 6th St, Champaign

All are within five mins of Foellinger, should be a great show, see you all there :)

Even Murphys and Legends aren't the cleanest places.

You could try the Urbana bars (Crane Alley, Office) for less of the "college crowd." Probably 15 minute walk from Foellinger.

Bar Louie and Firehaus are nicer than most of the campus bars.

  6. DASH 7 :thumbup

I don't know if I'd say that's my favorite song that Jeff's done, but damn is it a good song. I'm feebly trying to learn to play it myself right now.

Given that my "favorite" tweedy-related album changes about once every two weeks, I don't think I could pick a single song and stick with it. Maybe album by album:

    Tupelo stuff: Gun

A.M.: Dash 7, honorable mention to blue-eyed soul

Being There: Red-eyed blue, honorable mention to Sunken Treasure & Misunderstood

Summerteeh: Via Chicago, honorable mention to How to fight loneliness

YHF: Reservations, h.m. IATTBYH and Jesus

Ghost: Wishful Thinking, h.m. ALTWYS, less than you think

    Mermaid: One by One

    Loose Fur: Laminated Cats

Unfortunately, I've yet to see Jeff play solo. That will change in about two weeks, though :)

  7. :blink

I swear the link is different now than what it was earlier.

That being said, after a longer look, the website (wilco's) says all pre-sales are 10 am local

    Well, it's been updated again.

Champaign tickets are on sale at "noon chicago time"

Milwaukee tickets are on sale at "12:00PM local time"
