  1. Very good show (my 14th since 1996). A little short and a little sloppy (only show#2 so that's ok). Crowd sucked. Front middle section sat until Impossible Germany. Someone in the front said something to Jeff to which he replied, " you're sitting down...you bring it!". Also the four dorks behind me were batting 0.00 in predicting the next song and knew the first 4 words of every 2nd song. One guy was loudly giving his buddy an oral history of music until I shot him a look. Highlights: AOA, BBN, IG, REAB, IGY. Nick Lowe is a cool cat! Show 15 tonight.

  2. I'm quoting the Massey site as well.

Regardless, I don't see one place, anywhere, where it says i cannot stand up at a show at Massey Hall. I see a place where they ask you to "Please be considerate of those behind you," and I would have been glad to, by moving down to the floor, where everyone else was standing. But I couldn't, a) because Ticketmaster did not afford me that ability, and B ) because it was not suggested (or is not allowed) to me to stand at the back of the section.

    Dan.

Sit down & be quiet! (Couldn't resist)

How do we end this conversation and get back to discussing the awesomeness that was last night's show. Feist, Casino Queen, Cali Stars, Hate it Here, Radio Cure, about 40 ‘Nothings’ during Misunderstood! Even Glenn joining Liam on Cinnamon Girl.

Dude you should have seen it! Brilliant.

  3. Went both nights...both shows were stellar. Totally worth paying for two shows as the guys played 13 different songs...for anyone that questions their set-list thought process I think the discussion ends with the two T.O. shows.

The interpretive/dirty dancing couple in the front row certainly caused quite a distraction for those of us down front and they didn't go unnoticed by the band either. Early on I caught Jeff and John giving each other the “check them out” look :blink and later Jeff commented that should she require police assistance to deal with the dude’s offensive dancing she just needed to wink. ;) Even more classic was when the guy put his beer down on the stage, security removed it without him seeing where it went. :cheers Ha!

Great two night stand…thought the newer material sounded way tighter than in Lewiston (especially Sonny Feeling and Deeper Down). Can’t wait for the frozen tundra tour! :rock

  4. Nicely Done. :thumbup

  5. Great night!! The band sounded great. The venue (as always) was great and we had great seats (7th row centre) which will only get better tonight with 1st row centre! Can't wait.

My only complaint would be what's with the people in the first 5 rows, right in the centre, sitting for the entire main set? What gives? Sit in the friggin balcony and let the real fans sit up front. I couldn't tell if they guys noticed this pocket of about 50 people sitting on their asses all night but if I looked out that would have really pissed me off.

After Shot In the Arm, my buddy looked at me and said, "How are those people still sitting down?"

I can guarantee you I'll be standing in my front row seat tonight!!!

    Toronto - October 14!!!

  7. Obviously a forum / message board is a place to form and distribute opinions, but man, how cynical are we? Nothing is ever good enough for some.

I thought the sound was muffled and had the lows turned up too high for the Connor Oberst, but by the time Wilco played, it was great. It must have really depended on where you were sitting.

The venue was really like no other I've ever been too, but it was cool that they came there to play.

The guy that got the picture with Tweedy probably caught the thrill of a lifetime when he got the picture with him. It will be a memory that he will tell his grandchildren about. It didn't disrupt the show at all. It looked like Jeff stayed there for the picture... which he obviously did not have to do. I think it's cool that people bring their cameras in and take pics. Thanks to everyone that posted some here, they were are really cool and I'm thankful that you have shared them with us. I'd love to see more.

I thought the set list was phenomenal. They mixed a lot of old in with the new. I would have liked to see "You Never Know," but I was happy that they rocked 25 or so songs instead.

They are all extremely talents, but Nels is one of the best to ever pick up a guitar. He's so innovative. I thought that band was in great spirits and that Jeff was pretty comical.

I can't wait until they come back to WNY. Next time you're at a show, try to just be happy to be there and be healthy enough / able to see the music performed right before your eyes. If you think you're going to have any kind of problem with it, maybe you should let someone else spend the money on a ticket and stay home.

Wilco did love us that night and I thank them for that.

I agree with everything you've said here except the point about cameras. Enjoy the show, stand up, dance, smoke em if you got em, whatever.

My issue is with people sitting 100 yards away from the stage and taking out a crappy cell phone to take self-portraits of themselves with the stage behind them. It is distracting. Especially when the group proceeds to huddle together after snapping away to review their accomplishments. Save it for the ride home. And don't tell me Jeff posed for the photo...that's BS. I have read quotes from him in the past about how he finds camera phones at shows a huge distraction. The band is gracious enough to allow tapers, they actually put out a healthy number of live recordinds and DVDs and they always post high quality photos on their site. What good is a low res, blurry image taken from 200 yards away? I'd rather remember the music and the shared concert experience instead of the camera flashes and glow of LCD screens.

  8. Should've crossed at Niagara! Rainbow Bridge was a 7 minute drive on a scenic (and I'm being serious) Robert Moses Parkway, along the Gorge. Got to Rainbow bridge, three lanes open, 2 cars total on bridge, we pulled right up to the window! Best part is that you drive under the Lewiston bridge and we saw how long that line was....yikes!

Great show though, horrid sound! Muddier than anything I've experienced in a while...I just saw Springsteen in Pittsburgh where the Penguins play at the Igloo, that place is a death trap for sound, and the Artpark was way worse!

My plan all along was to go Rainbow but it was just so easy getting out of there and it seemed like there was no traffic at all heading to Lewiston...bad call on my part.

  9. Long time board reader but rarely post (this might even be my virgin posting :innocent

Great show last night. Anyone who says Jeff was off or complains about this band not giving it 100% is nuts. This was my 11th or 12th Wilco show (not sure if that makes me a vet or just a pretty loyal fan) but this one was by far the best I've seen. The guys are playing great, they're tight and they're having fun. A few observations: We came down to the show from Toronto and there is a definite difference between a Toronto crowd and US crowd. I love that as soon as the lights dimmed, everyone stood up and stayed that way for the next 2hrs and 15 minutes. At the last few Wilco shows in T.O. the crowd has, in a typical, conservative, Canadian way, sat down for a lot of the show and the mood was pretty mellow. The crowd last night was excited, singing, dancing and most importantly clapping over our heads collectively when instructed to do so!

The venue was strange indeed. From where I was sitting (20 rows back in the center) you couldn't see the lawns...they just disappeared because of the weird angle of the slope. I think Jeff had a similarly difficult time "working" the room. The ushers were also a riot - not one under the age of 75. Probably all Art Park volunteers. I saw a few holding their ears during the Nels/Jeff feedback battles on Handshake Drugs and ALTWYS.

    Pet Peeves:

    1) Cell phones/cameras at concerts. It is so damn distracting sitting behind people that constantly put their arms in the air trying to get a photo or video and then watch their footage back during the show. When Jeff had the young lady strum along during Spiders some dude was taking shots of himself with Jeff as the backdrop. Jeff just shook his head and didn't look impressed that this cool moment in the show was being upstaged by this knobs self-portrait. Put the cameras away people and enjoy the show.

    2) The Lewiston border crossing back to Canada. 2.5 hrs to go 3 miles. Ridiculous. :realmad

Looking forward to a Toronto show later in 2009 or early 2010!

  10. Long-time visitor, 1st time posting;

What can I say? Great show last night. While the energy of the band back in 1997 at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern was raw, edgy and electric, the performance at Massey Hall last night featured a confident group of virtuoso musicians at the top of their game having fun with nothing to prove. Jeff's voice was sweet, soulful, and passionate when it needed to be. Glen is a beast behind the kit. John keeps the groove going while Pat and Mike add the colour. Nels...well he is special. His presence makes everyone that much better.

Highlights for me were Shot in the Arm, SBS, Impossible Germany, You Are My Face, Late Greats, Hate it Here and Hoodoo Voodoo - never thought I'd say that, but the dueling guitar solo between Nels and Pat was priceless (Pat's facial expressions are like something out of a Will Farell movie and Nels is just a pro). From my seat I could see Jeff watching the two of them go at it as if he was watching a tennis match - the grin on his face was like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar.

Other celebrity sightings: Bazil Donovan, Bass player from Blue Rodeo. Dave Hodge - former HNIC host.

But the best part of the day for me happened at around noon when on a whim I took a spin by Massey Hall and saw the guys loading in. I parked illegally and brought my 4-year-old daughter out to see the guys. We met John and Nels who were absolutely amazing with her as she sang them a few bars of her favourite tune, California Stars. We took some photos, shook hands and were off. It was special moment for her and her dad. All day she asked me if she could come with me to the show
