Can we all agree that the Dead, or just Bobby, touring with John Mayer would be dreadful? It hurts my soul.
I'm no big John Mayer fan but have you heard his album "Try" some good stuff on that...if this "Dead" lineup comes close to home at reasonable prices I'm in...would prefer Steve Kimock though.

Calvino - cool doc. One of the better music docs in recent years. Despite having an interest in that Muscle Shoals doc, it is boring and half bullshit B roll. The Nilsson doc doesn't waste any time.

Hmm, I really enjoyed the Muscle Shoals doc and couldnt get through 20 minutes of the Nilsson doc...now have you seen "Beware of Mr. Baker"?

Best thing about '74 aside from Wall of Sound is Phil's bass... So out front in the mixes, love it. Next to primal era '74 is it for me.
Late '73 also has many highlights!

OK after about 5 spins all the way through my top 3 songs are: Diamond Light, Flowering, Fake Fur Coat.
Next tier are: Down From Above, New Moon, Where My Love.
Find myself actually liking overall sides C/D to A/B.
Only song I skip is Summer Noon - can't get into it at all...too repetitive IMO

Then we all put blankets on and walked out into the desert (Jeff's idea)
That was the line of the night! Takeover the Southwest as part of the TWEEDY cult
-
Jeff has a great line in response to the crowds enthusiasm about the new material...it went over too well and he felt bad that we didn't want to hear the old stuff.
This was after he acknowledged that philosophically it was not a good idea to start the tour with a ton if songs nobody has ever heard.
What a great way of putting it. That's how I feel too, even without having heard the show. I'm so glad that Jeff still has that restless, creative energy and I'm fully on board for the ride. I may or may not fall in love with all this new music immediately, but I wholeheartedly trust Jeff's instincts and taste.
SO happy for all of you lucky people who got to experience the first show!
Wilco Me, your faith will be rewarded!

I thought the first song was as good as Diamond Light sounded like AGIB stuff, so difficult to comment on the new material given the volume we got... The line about "marrying a burden" was heavy, very poetic stuff. Wish I had more of a frame of reference for the new lyrics.
Did I mention the show was incredible?
-
The show was fantastic. Great to hear new tunes wash over you, hilarious banter, respectful audience.
Jeff played acoustic nearly all the show while his lead guitar player took all the leads and it was sweet.
Wish I could hear the new stuff again but live what can I say? Artist keep creating and I am on the passenger side and thankful for that!
So grateful I saw the breakout of all this music.
Kid smoke out of the TWEEDY set was sublime.
Misunderstood and Acuff Rose my God!
Good Night and thank you Jeff!
Rest assured solo Tweedy delivered!!!!!!

Yeah, I wouldn't know where to start with all the live releases, but for this conversation Reckoning has to be in it. Fantastic recording of fantastic acoustic music. Dead Set (the electric counterpart to the shows Reckoning were culled from) is excellent, too.
My dad was already sick of me going to GD shows a lot by the time I played Reckoning for him on a long car ride around '83. He had never really heard the GD before and about half-way through the first side, asked who we were listening to. He was surprised/shocked to learn that the music we were listening to and BOTH enjoying was the band with the scary name that I'd expended so much time/effort on and caused him some grief over.
For that, Reckoning will always be a tops album for me.
The Bird Song from Reckoning has awesome Jerry licks for sure!

Jimi Hendrix Live at Berkeley is another great one for Machine Gun alone.
-
And for you Deadheads out there: we should not forget the Dick's Picks series!
My favorite is the one from Binghamton, NY in 1972. What is that, No. 6?
That would be Vol. 8 - yes tremendous my favorite from the Dick's series...the UJB gets me every time.
