  1. I might be wrong, but I think they wrote most of the lyrics quickly. I do agree that some of the lyrics sound rushed. However, the lyrics to "Guilder Annie" and "Black Eyed Susan" are outstanding. "Black Eyed Susan" was actually part of the band's Mystery Demos from the early 90's, so that makes sense. I get the feeling "Guilder Annie" has also been around.

My initial comment to you though was concerning repetitive choruses. That's always been a Jayhawks style.

  2. I listened to King of Limbs once and then tried to again later but couldn't stomach it. Brutal and unpalatable. I can't even cherry pick one tune from it that's even halfway decent. It's unfathomable to me that folks like it. But, then again, rap is very popular nowadays as well. :rolleyes

In Rainbows sounded good immediately to me, but I've not gone back to it in some time. House of Cards is brilliant.

The albums between OK Computer and In Rainbows are only worthy of cherry picking select songs. I think I have 4-5 downloaded from Thief. I don't have Kid A or Amnesiac but would only download a total of maybe five songs from those albums.

OK Computer and Bends are both brilliant.

    Never picked up Pablo Honey.

    And Bob's yer uncle.

This band just disappeared up it's own ass after Kid A. Boring, samey songs. Happens to all bands, eventually.

  3. These prices are absurd and nothing more than greed. Tickets for Waters show started at $55. I paid $125 for incredible floor seats and Waters brought MUCH more show to the arena and a show budget that ate up most of the profits.

This notes for you indeed. I laugh at Neil Young and his fake, corny, hippy bullshit.

  4. That is an interesting issue. A friend of mine, who is a huge REM fan, ran into Peter Buck in a record store a couple of years ago and the conversation apparently went something like this:

Friend: Hi, I'm a huge fan and your early albums were really really important to me.

Buck: Thanks, that's nice to hear. Hopefully our more recent albums are important to you too.

    Friend: Um, well, uhh ...

My friend says Buck was really nice and they talked for a while longer but he said that was kind of awkward.

That's a snotty thing for Buck to say. It takes a great sense of self-wareness (the kind that lets you make good records past the age of 40) to admit your recent work isn't as good as your peak work. REM sucks anyway. Horrible band with a pretentious twat for a lead singer.

  5. I'm sorry but this just seems like a silly argument.

    1. 40 minutes for an album used to be pretty standard. Check this out:

    Rubber Soul = 35:50

    Revolver = 34:59

    Sgt. Peppers = 39:42

    Pet Sounds = 35:58

    Abbey Road is 47:23

Those all have great songs, though. KOL doesn't have one.
