  1. I held out as well and am glad I did. I listened on the good stereo system last night. I'm pleasantly surprised

the songwriting and playing is still holding up. The sound production is once again void of any musical energy though, and I don't know how they keep ending up with these lifeless recordings. It's at least three albums in a row now. But apart from tracks 5,7 & 9, there are some great moments.

  2. I was glad the sound was good in the first balcony anyway. It was controlled and they utilized the decent acoustics of the theater. I must admit only two new songs and the fact they seem to be in a comfort zone now, kind of bummed me out. They keep favoring the same songs with this line-up and no new arrangements. I guess he wasn't kidding when he said not a lot of practising lately.

  3. I have to vent a little now, and I realize that I am preaching to the choir and the people reading and posting on here are not the offenders I'm referring to. Why do people spend good money to see a band only to talk throughout the entire show? It was infuriating tonight and all around me--it wasn't just some isolated people that I could tap on the shoulder and politely ask to stop talking. It's like these people thought they were in a bar and were trying to talk above the music. I don't understand. And I honestly expected more from the crowd at the Pabst. When Wilco's on stage there is nothing that can ruin the show for me, however, it would be so much nicer to enjoy the music without the distraction of chatter all around.

I understand the frustration but I'm wondering where you were located. I was in the first balcony and the audience were very quiet. In fact in the first half of the show there were moments of silence during the quiet musical parts that were amazing.

  4. "Live rock music is all about the vibes between the band and the audience".

I'm quite sure they can create great music without your vibes.

"This is why Tweedy spent the whole night complaining about people sitting".

People sat only for the second and third song on the floor, what are you talking about?

"Elderly ushers shining flashlights in people's faces telling them to sit down just ain't right".

    ditto above

  5. Now I know why I have to see my favorite bands standing up in dumpy places. I can't believe the complaints about the crowd and the venue. Wouldn't someone who is more concerned about dancing, and what other fans are doing at the show than watching the band, be the poser? I can't think of a more fitting description. May I suggest a dance club for dancing, and State St. for people watching?

This is the best venue Wilco has ever played. It was like hearing the band for the first time. I didn't think Jeff was more quiet than usual, and the comment about being able to "lay you all out" if the crowd was into resting and sitting, was hilarious.

The reworked Via Chicago was much more enjoyable than ever before. Jeff's acoustic did indeed sound amazing at times.

You could actually hear bass notes and intricate snare drum work. This was the spoiler show. Any other venue will pale.
