  1. i'll be going to NYC as well this Friday and i'm taking my friend who's never been before. we'll be staying at the Chelsea Hotel which seems to be a spot most tourists tend to visit. i walked by it a couple of years ago and almost fell out when i realized where i was standing. anyways, my friend and i are both into flea markets so we'll be hitting up the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market as well as some vinyl shops. i'm also a big Kerouac nerd so i plan on going to St. Patrick's cathedral to find that little blue window Kerouac mentions in Visions of Cody. if you're into books, the Strand bookstore is a cool shop to check out. supposedly its one of the largest bookstores in the world. have fun on your trip, r1vers. don't worry too much about finding things to do, things will find you. ps: stay away from the Bowery late at night :ermm

    any vinyl shop recommendations?

  2. Hey team -

I'm heading to NYC in a week to visit some friends who are either out there working for the summer or have moved out there. I've never been before, and am from Southern California. What are your recommendations for places I need to make sure to get out to (aside from the obvious tourist-y destinations) - I'm talking about cool local hangouts, and definitely some infamous NYC record stores that I've heard mentioned so many times as being the best in the world. I'm 21, but I don't want any sort of club/bar recommendations as I don't drink and I'm going to meet up w/ my girlfriend so I'm not looking for anything too crazy...sooo yeah. Any tips?

  3. i would be really stoked to get a PM as well... thanks!

Have the single...two copies in fact since I bought a strap and got the bonus 7" for free, but already had it...but a PM w/ mp3 would be nice...

  4. I thought Pomona was a great show, but this final Wiltern night blew me away. Jeff was in a playfully talkative mood with the audience, conversing back and forth with the crowd about clapping to show appreciation instead of saying "thank you," after each song. I was cracking up!!!

Looks like the setlist is kind of set though...with the exception of PKB/You & I/Outtasite, I'm not too bummed I ended up having to miss this one. Pomona & Wiltern night 1 hit most of the big ones I wanted to see. But then again, seeing You & I would be great...

  5. I would agree with a lot of that, for sure. It was far from their best show technically, but sometimes that makes for a better (or at least from the audience perspective, more lively) show. Jeff had a few very minor lyric flubs and the sound seemed kind of hit-or-miss at times and Jeff didn't seem entirely comfortable with his equipment for at least the first part of the show. Impossible Germany was looking dire when his SG went out, but Matrix definitely saved the day and Nels' improvisatory genius really paid off and made for a memorable version of that song.

It's hard to say re: Deeper Down after just hearing it live once. It sounded pretty good to these ears, though I'm sure it will get better with more practice. They've been working on it since Spain, I know, so it was great to finally hear it. I know this much: Nels is in serious multi-task mode, playing both his lap steel and a I think a Jerry Jones Neptune "Shorty" Octave 12 string. (It looks like one, anyway. A mandolin size instrument but with a wider body.) I'm sure someone got a good picture of him sitting on his stool with the lap steel and the Jerry Jones around his neck. I think Pat also doubled on guitar and keyboard, as he does on One Wing, but I'm less sure of that. And Glenn gets to use his drum tube, which I'm sure he enjoys.

I've got a picture. Looked that way to me, I was at the bar right in front of him. I'll post it here mid-week. Any tapers out there? Great, great show tonight. Lots of crowd interaction and just very relaxed feel. Nels was amazing on Impossible Germany covering for Jeff. Loved that version. He just came right back into it without any trouble at all..it was all so seamless and though I saw/heard Jeff say f*** during that moment, as soon as he got the new SG swapped in he was all smiles again. Great night. Great venue.

  6. Can you post this somewhere for us to download? I went to the show and it rocked.

    Thanks
