  1. I dont want t sound like a crank but I for one am tired of Star Wars in its entirety. I've seen Wilco well over 30 times and tomorrow's Mt Jam show willbe my 5th Star Wars show. I rank the previous 4 at the bottom of my Wilco live show list. And I love the album! For the most part I feel that full album showas are just not as interesting after th first time. Saw Springsteen do the River over the winter month and it was my least favorite show of his. The problem for me is the rest of the show gets compressed and the set doesn't get a good mix or as deep. Sa Wilco in Port Chester over 3 nights, 98 songs and only 1 repeat. Missing those days.

I agree completely. And while I liked the acoustic encore at the outset, enough is enough. I want the shows to peak with energy and electricity at the end, not come back down. Wilco always changes things up, and it's definitely time with this tour format. Bring back the mini acoustic set mid-show like they did a few years back.

  2. Yeah, both weekends at the Fairgrounds would never happen.  Was happy to see them there in 2011 (or was it '12?).  A festival set is never as satisfying as a full blown headlining show, but since I'm going anyway, might as well have Wilco on the Acura stage.  I don't see how they could play one of the smaller clubs at night.  Could you imagine them in the Maple Leaf, or Howlin' Wolf?  Folks would be hanging from the rafters.  The place I'd like to see them at for a JazzFest night show is the Mahalia Jackson Theater.  Saw Mule there in '13, love the venue (and one of the best Mule shows I've ever seen, almost all covers).  That's my #1 wish for Wilco and JazzFest.

Last time Wilco played JF, there were no night shows or band members sitting in with anyone as i recall. Wilco came, conquered and moved on

Depends on scheduling of course. I would take any venue at night. The last time they played JF Lucinda Williams played there too and the night before (I believe) her fairgrounds set she played the House of Blues. When Wilco last played JF iin 2011 they had a gig the night before in Mobile and one the day after in Houston, so the timing just wasn't there for a NOLA night show.

According to WilcoBase the last time they played Tips was in 2008, House of Blues last in 2007, and Howlin' Wolf back in 2000.
  3. It's pretty rare that anybody plays both weekends. Even local fixtures like Allan Toussaint and Irma Thomas play only one weekend...but I'm game if they are :-)

Very true Sandy…usually one or the other. What I would give to see them play a evening gig at Tips, The Maple Leaf or Howlin' Wolf? Any club for that matter. I loved seeing them at the fairgorunds in 2011- but it's impossible for the band to get into the flow of a show when the stage time is so limited. But the nighttime shows during jazziest are the real deal.

  4. This basically makes it almost certain they'll be at Jazzfest in NO, probably both weekends.

Would love that…especially if they do a nighttime "full show" gig at one of the clubs downtown. Saw them at fest a few years back at the fairgrounds - but even the main stage shows are so short (of course Phish somehow did a full show at the fairgrounds - overrated imo).

  5. I'm a rookie when it comes to obtaining copies of live shows. Where would I go to find the best quality recordings of vic, metro, and lincoln hall shows from last week? Downloaded vic and LH via steamengine but wasn’t impressed with the sound quality..especially at higher volumes. Of the two LH sounded cleaner.

    Many thanks in advance...

And no disrespect to the people that taped and uploaded the shows I just mentioned...I'm a stickler when it comes to sound quality and didn’t know what to expect. I'm assuming soundboard quality is a stretch...That being said, I was at these shows and they sounded unbelievable when I was listening live so perhaps it's an unfair expectation on my behalf.

  6. People can say all they want about setlist predictability but last night was so much more than that. That being said, the setlist was anything but predictable. While the song selection was nothing short of amazing, it was more about how they played what they played. From tweedys first line in sunday morning it was clearly evident he was in a zone. The crowds energy was intense and the band fed off that. It was the perfect storm.

From hesitating beauty and beyond...it was rock and roll at its finest. I've seen them a bunch including the winter residency in 2008, Ryman this tour, Lupos in 2010...and this was by far the best of them all. Not even close.

There was magic in the air all night and the only downside to the entire show was when the walked off stage for good.
