  1. Doesn't matter. They are both awesome.

I agree. They are my two favorite artists. I have seen Tweedy try out new songs as well as Bird play old songs. I don't think every concert put on by these artists is just like the ones this journalist went to. Jeff and Andrew are both exceptional at what they do, different kinds of music which call for different kinds of concerts.

  2. I most likely will have 2 extra tickets for Tarrytown. You would have to meet me at the show to get them. If you're interested, e-mail me and I'll explain. missycantwell@yahoo.com

  3. I can't believe these still haven't shipped. I'm guessing they won't go out today, so that means they'll be shipped Monday at the earliest. And considering it took five days door-to-door to get my D.C. tickets, this makes me super nervous.

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one waiting for Tarrytown tickets. They haven't responded to my phone or e-mail inquiries.

  4. :lol @ "boobie-thing"

Yes, I totally remember seeing this video last year too. It's just too funny.

So Misswe, is there any chance a video update could be in our future here at VC? :shifty

Definitely! He knows I want a new video of him so he stops jamming and runs whenever he sees the camera. I have a couple of videos but I want it to be a good one if I'm gonna put it in cyberspace for eternity. Don't want him to resent me when he grows up. ;)

  5. Nothing will ever beat this.

Thanks so much! This was done about a year ago. He knows enough Wilco songs now to play a full show almost! Dude has been playing along with the Ashes dvd since it came out. His thing this week is pretending a pirate eye patch is a bra(or boobie-thing as he calls it) that someone threw onstage and he picks it up with his guitar neck, then tosses it back. Priceless.

  6. This was the first festival I've been to(besides working at the last Woodstock, out of which I ran, crying). I had a seriously wonderful time. Everything was so well planned and the residents of North Adams were really hospitable! When Mavis played The Weight, that was sheer classic awesomeness. I didn't get to experience Wilco's performance the way I would have liked. Some drunken queef gargler was elbowing and ramming into me while I was holding my three year old. I had been in the same spot since the gate opened. A security person would have been helpful with that. Shortly after, my faith was renewed in humanity when some guy bought my son a slice of pizza because he's cute. My favorite part of the weekend was the Tweedy solo show. Phenomenal! One question, what happened to the Solid Sound Jones Soda??? I was one of the first place winners in the photo contest. Everyone I know wants a bottle of it and all I can say is I don't know.

  7. I work at an antique book store. Recently, I picked up a little book called The New Soundscape-A Handbook For The Modern Music Teacher by R. Murray Schafer. BMI Canada put it out in 1969. It's about the sonic universe and how we perceive what our ears take in. I'm still reading it, it's pretty cool.

Another book that I really enjoy is The Shapes Of Our Singing-A Comprehensive Guide To Verse Forms And Metres From Around The World by Robin Skelton. If you write lyrics or just like words, there are some really great examples of how folks in other lands write.

  8. I have gazed up into the twin black infinities of Tweedy's nostrils on many occasions. That's the height of heightiness in my book.

"twin black infinities"...that's the most poetic thing I've read all day. In reference to Tweedy's nostrils none the less.

  9. Dude, that is awesome! I love the wailing solo he does in the middle and I'm really impressed how he remembered the words and for the most part delivered them at just the right pace. Somehow or another, Wilco needs to see this. I could see it as bounus track or hidden track on their next dvd.

Thanks so much! Every morning when my son gets up he asks me to put the Wilco dvd on. He puts his "jweff tweedy" hat and jacket on, gets his mic stand and guitar, and "practices". It's nuts, he's getting better every day. When he plays along with The Late Greats his strumming is almost right on. His other favorites are You Are My Face and Monday. A couple weeks ago he said "I had a dream about Nels Cline. He was talking to me and playing guitar!" I can't wait until I can take him to a Wilco show.

  10. your buddy did the opening for dexter? i must say it is totally amazing and compelling time and time again. i watch it every time i watch the show. so great. when he fries up that piece of ham and eats it...so great.

Yeah, Greg is a very talented cat. I think he nailed the essence of the show. He's also a sick drummer(the original drummer for the metal band Psyopus).

  11. I recently finished the first season. Great show. I'm a fan of the movie American Psycho, and I think the writer of Dexter is as well. Dex even used the name Patrick Bateman as an alias. My friend Greg made the opening sequence for this show, I think he did some awesome work.

  12. I saw Andrew Bird in Buffalo on Wednesday. The show did not include his band. It was a great show. I was up front which may not have been the best spot as far as sound was concerned in that venue (an old church). Especially since a radio station was coming through something on stage, so whenever the show got quiet, there was a hint of pop music. It made it unique. An early version of Darkmatter was played as well as a new song. Great stuff!

  13. I really dig the image on the shirt in the OP. Kudos Misswe.

How did you come up with that?

Thank you! That one is based on the lyrics "buried you alive in a fireworks display" from the song Via Chicago. I took a photograph of fireworks with a cheap digital camera using a slow exposure. As I was taking it, I moved the camera in a spiral in order to achieve the effect. Then I took a photograph of a model holding a shovel, which I manipulated using paint software. Finally, I added the model to the fireworks photo along with the words using photoshop. The image was the third incarnation of the idea, I'm glad you like it.
