  1. Sun, Aug 13 Akron, OH Akron Civic

And I'm pretty sure he did add a late-night show at the House of Blues in Cleveland after that Akron show.

He did, I know a couple of people who went to both shows that night. IIRC, the HoB show was listed as midnight but he came on around 1:00.

  2. When I heard their first single "I'm Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance" I thought they were trying to be the Go! Team, but I've heard more and nothing else gave me that feeling. They did a recent in-studio on KEXP but it's not in their archives yet.

I wouldn't kill myself to get there but if you've got nothing else going on I'm sure it would be a diverting way to spend an evening.

  3. Perhaps someone who is not on hiatus from posting here can explain that this thread is not for ranking Wilco albums based on personal preference?

I'm pretty sure we gave up the right to actually have personal preferences as part of the membership Terms & Conditions for this site.

  4. 'they' are a he.

Don't take it all out on Tweedy, I'm sure he didn't make the SNL decision alone.

    Or did he...

(yes, I know what you meant but I don't think you know what Muncle Douchey meant)

    The Saturday Night Live affair

Their most famous performance was on the 1981 Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Donald Pleasence. The band was booked at the insistence of John Belushi, who was a huge fan. Belushi initially offered them the soundtrack for his major motion picture Neighbors. The movie studio eventually forced Fear off the project and to make up for it Belushi got them the spot on SNL. Among the politically incorrect nature of Fear's songs, the band's appearance included a coterie of dancers, several of whom had been contacted for the event by both Penelope Spheeris (another avid Fear booster) and Henry Rollins (contrary to popular belief, was not in attendance); among them were Belushi, Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat (and later Fugazi), Harley Flanagan and John Joseph of The Cro-mags, and John Brannon of Negative Approach, causing destruction of the set. During rehearsals the director wanted to prevent the dancers from participating, so Belushi offered to be in the episode (it had been a few years since he left SNL) if the dancers were allowed to stay. The end result was the shortening of Fear's appearance on TV. The band first performed "I Don't Care About You". The band started their second performance by saying, "It's great to be in New Jersey", to which the audience booed (the show was filmed in New York). Fear then played "Beef Bologna", "New York's Alright If You Like Saxophones", and started to play "Let's Have a War" when the audio and video of the telecast faded into commercial.

  6. And hide it from the kids, who would probably love it and then run around singing "New York's Alright (If You Like Saxophones)" at school all day.

That would be better than "Beef Baloney".

That album was the "official soundtrack" for the Cross-Bronx Expressway on our sundry roadtrips in college to visit friends going to school in New England. (25 years ago :omg )

Their Halloween SNL performance is damn near impossible to find online - I wish I DLed it when I saw it on YouTube awhile back.

I don't think I've seen that since it first aired. In retrospect it looks pretty staged. ("go down to central casting and round up some 'punks' ")

  7. I wonder why he thinks people want to look at pictures scrolling by as they listen to music?

If I read the release correctly they chose Blu-Ray because you wouldn't just have to passively look at pictures scrolling by but could actively search pictures, documents, etc. while listening to music. The BD-Live feature would also allow them to add stuff to your collection (presumably on storage on your netwrok but logically (magicly?) tied to the overall package). I'm sure the technology is quite cool and I'm equally sure that Neil is being well compensated for being Sun's poster-boy for this (as opposed to just doing it to be difficult).

Anyway you slice it this is for hardcore fans and it sounds like much more than just an uber-anthology. I'm betting $200 - $250 for the whole mess.

  8. I agree with a lot of this, but I still want to know wtf a muzzle of bees is. If it's just a random, surreal visual image then OK, cool, definitely entitled to that. But it seems like there is more to it. Muzzles keep you from quiet, CHECK. Bees... Uh, yeah, that's where I think I lose it. To me, bees sting, they die after they sting, they making a buzzing drone, they are a thousand little things all working together, they're all uniform so maybe they represent just mindless masses...

Overall I just don't get a clear idea of the unifying concept, which is the muzzle of bees. Help me out!

I always pictured something like this...

  9. So let me get this straight.....If you have a Playstation 3 you can play Blue-Ray DVD's? Any special model of PS3 needed? Obviously one would not need an HDTV to view it I hope?

You need (or at least really want) the $25 Blu-Ray remote.

edit: Blu-Ray might not work with a non-HDTV...

The PS3 does not have a conventional set of component jacks. So if you are planning to use component video instead of HDMI you'll have to use a special Sony breakout cable that has a proprietary connector on one end (which plugs into the player's so-called Multi AV output) and analog component video and 2-channel stereo audio at the other. This cable is an extra-cost item, available separately. An S-Video breakout cable is also an option. The only breakout cable packed with the player provides composite video. But neither S-Video nor composite is of any use for Blu-Ray playback since high definition video requires either a component or HDMI connection.
