  1. I just received this email from Front Gate

Solid Sound print pass emails should go out this week, or at the end of the month, (approximately 30 days prior to the show).

Please disregard the earlier time estimate on original receipts.

Thank you for contacting Front Gate Tickets,

    Mike

  2. So... Mavis Staples and Billy Bragg are playing together at the Portsmouth Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH on March 25th. The very next night Tweedy is playing a mere 45 minutes north in Portland, ME. What are the chances that Tweedy might take the stage for a couple of songs with Staples and Bragg? It would be pretty damn special IMO.

... I need to give credit to my wife for putting two and two together here.

  3. I'm new to this kind of thing but I couldn't find the song anywhere so I thought I'd give it a shot. There are some hammer-ons and pull-offs I can't quite figure out but this is the gist of it. Corrections are welcome.

    sorry for the delay

life has gotten in the way again....

That's fantastic news! My kids, who were at the show, are anxious for a bootleg. As a result its had me obsessively checking bootsdaily.com and the Roadcase for a copy. Your work is much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  5. I did and was still confused because that pic on the ax looks nuthin like the person on the web site. But, OK. I thought it looked a lil' bit like David Jones -- you know the dude before David Bowie.

I say it looks like the love child of Laurie Anderson and Nels. How's that for a trying to start a rumor? :pirate You know what I mean though.

Here is a pretty cool interview with him:

He mentions the picture on the guitar there.

  6. Hey I have two crazy Wilcoheads both under 6 and am seriously considering making this trip part of our summer vacation , especially with all the state parks I see on the maps I'm looking at.

So here is my question : is anyone else considering taking their kids? Does anyone know the start times for the 2 Wilco shows ?

    Thanks for your help

My kids are coming but they are 9 and 12. Their first show was Tanglewoods a couple of years ago so my little on was 7. The crowds at Wilco shows are definitely kid friendly and of the three shows we've gone to with them there are always other kids there. Oh and make sure to get some hearing protection for the little ones.

I think the tickets say Wilco is playing at 7:00pm

  7. Boy oh boy, am I having trouble finding a room for this thing! I wonder if you know, is the Redwood as horrible as it sounds on TripAdvisor? It seems to be the only place even halfway near and under $300. But the reviews make it sound like an almost frighteningly bad place to be. Any suggestions?

Try Pittsfield. I reserved a room at the Crown Plaza ($200/night for 4 people). The Ramada Inn was $169

  8. Just back in Burlington from Boston and Concord -- had a terrific time at both shows. Agree with much of what has been said in this thread. Boston was clearly ready for some Wilco as the city had not had a "proper" show in a few years. The energy was palpable from the Price is Right intro all the way to the end of the show -- much like the Montrel show in February. I think there were some folks in Concord who were less familiar with the band, but from my seat it was all good for the entire show. It was great to not have to deal with sit down/stand up thing at either of these two shows!

I was quite stoked that Jeff decided to play my request last night -- I am the guy that requested Why Would You Wanna Live and received a nice gift certificate to the Concord Co-Op for the effort. I love this song and had not seen it since '02 - I think??? Anyway, it was a nice little moment during the show when I walked to the stage to get my "prize" and thanked Jeff for playing my request. He asked how it sounded -- I said, "terrific!" -- and for those who were there, I think they would all agree. The Cars Can't Escape to follow was just icing at that point...

Working today -- off to Hartford in the morning -- then I will wait along with most of you for the three day event in W. MA in mid-August...

That was a nice moment in the show and a great request! Tweedy seemed a little uncomfortable handing out the envelopes but you seemed to loosen him up a bit.

  9. Is

    it?

Nope! All I can say is HOLY CRAP Jeff not only remembered my kids who met him at Tanglewoods but remembered our home videos as well! The fact that he talked to them last night and complemented them sent both of them into a kind of happy shock that won't wear off for a long time.

    Here are some videos:

These are from a music recital held by their music teacher. And if you were wondering they are HUGE Wilco fans and they did make it to school this morning :)

Edit: Also if anyone has a recording from the stream I would love a copy!

  10. Nope. For whatever reason it cut out at the start of Jesus, etc. :realmad

Thanks for heads up. I'm on a Mac platform.

You can use Audacity to record and SoundFlower to redirect the output to Audacity. Its a bit tricky but the software is free and you can probably find a tutorial on Google. Good luck!

  11. I couldn't find this tabbed out anywhere and my son really wants to play it. With that in mind I'm trying to work through it but I'm a real hack at the guitar. I've got a little more than half and thought I'd ask for some help/direction before I finish. Thanks!

  12. I just got a little teary. I'm so bringing Maddie to the show if they make Cle. She'll prolly be 7 or close to it by then.

Do it, especially if she likes the band. The crowd at their shows are surprisingly kid friendly. Just bring ear-plugs and be prepared to answer, "What is that funny smell?" :)

  13. I've met the band twice. First time was after the Tanglewoods show and then again last summer after the Lowell show. It would be an understatement to say they were nice. Both times I was with my kids (now 8 and 11) and on both occasions all of the band members were very attentive to my children. Pat asked them what their favorite bands were (Wilco duh!) then recommended some other stuff. Nels and Mikael seemed genuinely impressed that my oldest plays the mandolin. And all of them were happy to have their picture taken with my kids and sign whatever. I didn't detect any distractedness or superior attitude at all even though they were just some random children backstage at a concert.

However, the best was the first time they met Jeff. My boys idolize him and I said as much when we met. I also thanked him for creating music that has encouraged them to play their instruments (which is the truth -- both play and sing daily and have for years and its been almost exclusively Wilco songs). Jeff looked at my youngest (7 at the time) and asked if it was true. When he sheepishly responded "yes," Jeff got down on one knee put both hands on his shoulders, looked him in the eyes and said, "You are the reason I make music, and it makes me so happy to know you are playing my songs." My son still talks about that moment. It meant so much to him, and by extension, as the parent, meant so much to me.

Wilco is the nicest band EVER!

  14. My kids (8 and 11) are HUGE Wilco fans -- it's all they will listen to. I've taken them to two shows (Tanglewoods and Lowell) and they've loved every minute of it. The shows and crowds are kid friendly for the most part. Just make sure to bring earplugs for the little one.

  15. um, i know we aren't suppose to post video or links here, but there are a few choice vids up on ye ole youtube...

One choice video to look for is "Jeff Tweedy plays guitar with the kids" -- the guy taking the video was right next to the kids who "accompanied" Jeff in Spiders. Very cool.

  16. Haha, very funny. Totally taken out of context! :blush

Anyway, this is really, really dumb but I realized way after the fact that I left my ticket stub -- on the, er, somewhat commemorative ticket stock -- inside my free program, which I abandoned when all hell broke loose at the end. It's not a big deal at all, but if someone happens to have an extra stub or unused ticket or something that they don't want, I'd love to take it off your hands. Let me know. Thanks! (And of course I'd be happy to pay for the postage or whatever.)

Couldn't PM you, but if you shoot me your address I have a ticket to send. It's a bit rough because it got wet but if you want it, I'll gladly send it.
