you really don't need to take these discussions too seriously, the cover itself is great. I just think you lost a whole lot of your credibility by attacking Jeff Tweedy without provocation and unjustfully.
Ok guy. I wasnt really attacking him per say, just trying to get a rise out of you. In all, subject dropped.

It's got an innocent enough melody but I'd hardly call IATTBYH a Valentine favorite...
Well, If you are gonna keep butting heads on the issue, lets just drop it. At least UM makes an effort to cover songs and change it up once in a while for the fans. God only knows if the pretentious Jeff Tweedy would ever play a popular cover more than once a year.
-
Maybe the just like the song and enjoy playing it and aren't worried about making it their own.
exactly. The reason they played it was because there was a fan poll on the UM website during the days leading up to the Valentines Day show. All of the potential covers all had to do with hearts, love, relationships, jesus, etc. But anyways, the fans chose the Wilco song. So hell yeah.

i used to listen to jam bands, like moe and i've even seen UM before. i don't think they are bad, i just kind of get bored with them.
i like songs more than jams.
...that being said, i still love the grateful dead because i feel they wrote songs and jammed to them, not the other way around
I agree. With that being said, I think that Wilco (If they played frequent covers) could do a great Dead song.
Also, I'm not a big Jam band guy. I've seen UM like 23 times and I've been to a few Phish shows. I missed the Dead and Jerry because I was too young. But yeah, I only like 3 jam bands I guess. It is a genre of music with a lot of shitty bands in my opinion.
-
i'm not really a fan of any of those jam bands, but i guess this is ok. i mean it's basically note for note the same as the original only the singing is relatively boring.
i would have enjoyed it more if they made it their own a little more
I understand what you are saying, but Umphrey's is known for covering songs exactly as they originally are.
p.s. Jam bands aren't that bad

Thanks for the heads up, smc. Listening now.
Cool, let me know what you think. I personally thought that UM nailed the instrumentals, but Brendan's voice lacked emotion.

So last night I set my alarm to 9:30am, double checked how loud it was (to be sure I awoke)got my computer ready.
Sometime in the night my power went out.
Woke up at 10:15 with my phone vibrating because my friend was calling to tell me about the great wilco tickets he just got.
realized my power was out and the internet didnt work.
Frantically called my friend to have him get me my wilco tixs.
By 10:30 the presale was only offering single seats
It doesnt make me less of a fan that I didnt get presale tickets, correct?
I guess there are bigger problems in the world, but not many that I can think of at the moment!
cool.

Big Spoon fan. Anyone gonna be in milwaukee tonight?
-
Everybody is naming all the same covers....Does that tell you anything? Well...why not throw in a new one and just play it once or what not. Also, many good bands add in frequent covers to setlist.
-
Wilco dropping a Shakedown Street would be epic. I also would like Loser or Half Step.

Heard "You and I" at Panda Express in Wilmette today

I have a buddy who is an adamant Grateful Dead fan and is somewhat new to Wilco. I was thinking of putting together a compilation of live songs both Grateful Dead and Wilco. I'm curious to see what you guys think. I would love to put together a setlist of great live versions of each band's best songs. If anyone has a specific show that showed a great version of the songs that would be fantastic.
This is what I've got so far.
1. Someday Soon 2-18-97
2. Me and My Uncle 12-11-69
3. Forget the Flowers 2-15-97
4. Promised Land 3-28-73
You might also want to add some Grateful Dead songs that arent sung by Bob Wier. Give me some Jerry.

I listened to it today. I pretty much thought that they disgraced Pink Floyd. The record was shit. Although, I personally believe that if I were a Lips fan to begin with, I would have thought it was pretty cool. However, I am not. Therefore I disliked it very much. On the otherhand, If Wilco had covered DSOM, and no matter how shitty it was, I would still love it. I believe its all based on perspective.

I'm a long time concert goer with a wide range in music taste. Every great band will occasionally throw in a spontaneous cover in a live show. Why doesn't Wilco ever do it?
-
DMB is pretty not cool.

So it is played Capo 5 using the Em G C Am?
How can people talk throughout a show?
in Just A Fan

I talk throughout shows. Mainly I discuss how every show is the same despite like 4 songs. Also every show sounds exactly like it does on the cd. I like to discuss how the band should incorporate some improv.
