  1. Now that everyone's home from Solid Sound, isn't it time we engage in some wild speculation about the new album? Thankfully there's a nice article that addresses the Solid Sound hangover, and has precisely 10 words of new information on the album:

It was too early to say whether or not the Chicago-based, alt-country band Wilco, which curated the three-day musical festival, would return next summer, said Katherine Myers, spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.

"Wilco is a difficult band to schedule, and they have a new album coming out next spring," she said.

    Take it to the bank!

  2. Now writers can use the 'indie' shorthand to describe Wilco without the guilt of being factually incorrect. :P

I wonder how much, if at all, this will change their creative process. My uninformed impression is that Nonesuch was very hands off and didn't pressure the band into anything creatively or schedule-wise. I suppose the only reason I have to think that is because I've never heard the band talk about the label in interviews ever.

  3. WilcoHQ tweeted that it will be "Deeper Down."

Unfortunately, all TV networks employ censors. Obviously there's no way to know for sure, but I have a (not so sunny) feeling that the lawyers who work in Standards and Practices at CBS, aka the censors, wouldn't clear a song about a serial killer (BBN) or a song containing the line, "It didn't feel like the wrong time or place, until they cut off her clothes" (Sonny Feeling).

"Up above the tallest Dutch dope high"? :-p

  4. This is old news it seems, but I just came across this now. Jim O has produced a Burt Bacharach tribute album with a whole bunch of big names involved. Sounds like he plays and sings a bunch on it, and Mr. Kotche is at the drums for this whole affair.

After days spent digging through a dozen sites, mostly written in Japanese, I’m thrilled to report that Jim O’Rourke has produced All Kinds of People ~Love Burt Bacharach~, a tribute album featuring 11 pieces of the legendary songwriter’s most famous work as covered by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, O’Rourke himself, former Bacharach collaborator Donna Taylor, and 7 other artists.

O’Rourke—who previously released a faithful cover of Bacharach’s “Something Big” on Eureka—not only produced and sang on the album, but he also played guitar, banjo, keyboards, bass, harpsichord, and other instruments. Who’s the drummer? Oh, that would be Wilco’s Glenn Kotche on the skins.

The album is due out on April 7th via Japanese label AWDR, a week before being performed live in Tokyo and Osaka on 4/15 and 4/18, respectively, by O’Rourke, Kotche (just ahead of two Wilco gigs in Japan), other artists from the album, and “special guests.” Ready for the track/set list?

  5. I hope he goes. They need a shake up. Let's keep it real. The last 2 albums are just not that good.

I'm all for speculating wildly on the internet. That's why I propose that the shake up Wilco really needs is a second, smaller Nels to play that little guitar on "Deeper Down," increasing the potential number of baroque, 64th note guitar lines. Weedily weedily weedily weedily waaaaaaaaaaaaa

  6. Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone else noticed yet another gigapan image has come up on the website. I made a habit of checking it when I'm at wilcoworld after they changed it the 1st time.

  7. I did happen to grab a picture from the Lowell show, but be warned! Rain + crappy cellphone camera = you get the idea

    Also, cool shirt and story!

I feel like Pat Sansone's numerous and hilarious poses would make for a great shirt as well.
