    Sun Kil Moon - Benji

Mark has been my favorite contemporary artist ever since I first discovered Ghosts (and April around the same time).  AFP blew me away.  I pretty much enjoy whatever he does, and that mostly applies to this release as well.  Fav tracks are Ben's My Friend, Richard Ramirez, Carissa, and I Watched The Film.  Still, I will always be partial to AFP and songs like Young Love and Black Kite, as well as the live album releases.

  2. Before the days of easy downloads, I started to collect all of Bowie's early studio discs from one of those disc-of-the-month subscriptions. I think I have everything up through Heroes. That's borderline hardcore, right?

I could make a long list for this thread:

    Green Day

    Phil Collins

    The Guess Who

    Badfinger

    April Wine

    Wilson Pickett

    Emilie Mover

    Stevie Wonder

    Eurythmics

    Feist

    Patsy Cline

    Hot Tuna

    Big Star

    Jay Farrar

    REM

    The Walkmen

    They Might Be Giants

    Oasis

    Television

    The Band

Seriously, my list of artists who I like a lot of would be much shorter. :lol

Surely you like more than 1-2 songs from Jay Farrar...

  3. Wow, that is waaaaaay too country for my taste. Maybe it was a mistake on my part to pause Muddy Waters' One More Mile to give it a listen, but I couldn't make it past the 2-minute mark.

I really think I've gotten to the point where I can only tolerate Jay when he's at least trying to rock out.

Is there even such a thing as "way too country?"

  4. seems like this is a jay solo record.  band really wasn't in the studio.  too bad.  jay needs a band.  i really liked ACD.  Jay has kind of lost the gruff in his voice and tends to sing off key these days.  that being said, he can still write a good song.  definitely want to hear this.  goofy title though.

how is this a jay solo record when mark spencer, gary hunt, and dave bryson were all in the studio?

how is the title goofy? To me, it seems pretty clear what kind of record jay wanted to make.

  5. Ooh! Didn't know that it was out yet.

Terrible album cover (seems intentionally so), but after his last album I am willing to forgive such aesthetic misfires.

What! As soon as I saw the album cover, I knew the album was going to be great, which it definitely is.
